Abstract

Metabolic syndrome, encompassing hypertension, elevated blood glucose levels, high cholesterol, and increased waist circumference, is a significant risk factor for frailty in older adults. The FRAIL questionnaire is a screening tool that assesses five components of frailty, enabling early detection for appropriate intervention. This community service program was conducted using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method with 93 elderly participants. Health education and screening for metabolic syndrome and frailty were performed using the FRAIL questionnaire. Among the participants, 22.58% were categorized as "Non-Frail," 50.54% as "Pre-Frail," and 26.88% as "Frail." These findings indicate a high prevalence of frailty risk among the elderly population. The FRAIL questionnaire proved effective for early detection of frailty, facilitating preventive interventions such as physical activity, nutritional monitoring, comorbidity management, and psychosocial support. These measures have the potential to sustain long-term health in older adults. The application of the FRAIL questionnaire for the elderly provides significant benefits for managing frailty risk, with a sustainable approach that promotes the well-being of older adults.

Abstract

ABO incompatibility is a medical condition that occurs when the mother’s blood type differs from the fetus she is carrying, potentially triggering immunological reactions harmful to both the mother and the fetus. This condition poses a significant risk in pregnancy and blood transfusions. Therefore, early blood type screening is essential for women of reproductive age as a preventive measure against ABO incompatibility. The education and blood type screening program was implemented using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, involving education, blood type screening, and evaluation. Through early detection and health education, women of reproductive age can better understand the risks of ABO incompatibility and take appropriate preventive actions. Proper education and regular screening can reduce pregnancy complications caused by ABO incompatibility and increase awareness among women of reproductive age about the importance of maintaining reproductive health. Early blood type screening plays a crucial role in preventing ABO incompatibility, thereby minimizing the risk of pregnancy complications in women of reproductive age.

Abstract

Anemia is a hematological disorder that is often not recognized in the adult age group. One lifestyle factor that can affect hemoglobin and hematocrit levels is the consumption of tea or coffee with meals, because the tannin and polyphenol content inhibits the absorption of non-heme iron. Early detection of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels accompanied by education about eating and drinking habits is an important strategy in preventing anemia. This screening activity is carried out using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach. Examination of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels is carried out using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) from capillary blood. Education is provided to all participants through leaflets and group counseling regarding the effect of tea and coffee consumption on iron absorption. A total of 91 participants took part in this activity, consisting of 39.6% men and 60.4% women, with an average age of 47.4 years. The average hemoglobin was recorded at 11.2 ± 1.6 g/dL and hematocrit at 33.0 ± 4.7%. As many as 42.9% of participants experienced anemia based on hemoglobin levels below normal values according to gender. Hemoglobin and hematocrit examinations successfully identified a significant proportion of individuals at risk of anemia. Education on the right time to consume tea or coffee and increasing consumption of foods rich in iron and vitamin C are preventive interventions that can be applied to maintain optimal hematological status. Abstract

Triglycerides are an important metabolic indicator associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. Hypertriglyceridemia often develops without symptoms but contributes to the accumulation of atherogenic lipids. This activity involved 104 adult participants who underwent triglyceride level examination using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). Education was delivered individually using a leaflet containing information on the relationship between high-calorie food intake and increased triglyceride levels, as well as recommendations for replacing energy-dense foods with healthy foods. A total of 47.1% of participants showed triglyceride levels ≥150 mg/dL, while the other 52.9% had normal levels. The average triglyceride level of 159.1 mg/dL reflects the hidden metabolic risk in the population. Education was provided based on the results of the examination to encourage the selection of low-calorie foods and increased fiber consumption. Triglyceride level examination is useful as an early screening for hypertriglyceridemia in the community. Education about high-calorie food consumption plays an important role in reducing metabolic risk and supporting the prevention of cardiovascular disorders through a healthier diet.

Abstract

Consumption of sweetened beverages contributes to increased blood glucose levels that lead to the risk of pre-diabetes and type II diabetes mellitus. Fasting blood sugar examination is an early screening tool to detect hidden metabolic disorders and educate the public about the importance of controlling sugar consumption. The examination was conducted through capillary blood sampling and point-of-care testing (POCT) analysis of 91 adult participants. Education was delivered in the form of a leaflet emphasizing the impact of sweetened beverage consumption on glucose regulation and the risk of insulin resistance. The results were classified into three categories: normal, pre-diabetes, and diabetes. The majority of participants (86.8%) were in the normoglycemic category. As many as 9.9% were classified as pre-diabetes and 3.3% were in the diabetes category. The average fasting blood sugar of the participants was 89.5 ± 20.1 mg/dL. These results emphasize the need for counseling regarding limiting the consumption of sweetened beverages to maintain stable blood glucose. Fasting blood sugar examination accompanied by education about sweetened beverages contributes to early detection of the risk of glucose disorders. Interventions based on examination results have the potential to increase awareness of fluid consumption patterns and encourage healthier lifestyle changes. Abstract

Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, which can increase due to high purine intake or impaired renal excretion. Accumulation of uric acid in the body is at risk of causing joint inflammation and other metabolic disorders. Early detection and dietary education are strategic steps to prevent complications of hyperuricemia. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach by examining uric acid levels using POCT and education on managing purine consumption. The examination was carried out on 62 adult participants. Educational leaflets were delivered directly and individually to each participant. All participants had uric acid levels in the normal range (median 4.2 mg/dL), with the lowest value of 3.5 mg/dL and the highest 6.5 mg/dL. Most participants were women and were in the middle to elderly age group. Although no cases of hyperuricemia were identified, preventive education remains essential to maintain uric acid levels within optimal ranges and reduce future metabolic risks. Lifestyle interventions focusing on diet and hydration are critical for sustainable uric acid control and long-term health outcomes. Abstract

Mental health in productive-age individuals is an important aspect to consider, given that this age group has a high potential for experiencing emotional stress due to work, social, and personal demands. Unfortunately, psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and stress are often not recognized early because their symptoms are subclinical or hidden. Based on this background, mental health screening and education activities were conducted to support promotive and preventive efforts in maintaining the psychological well-being of productive-age individuals. Screening was conducted using the 42-item version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42) instrument on 49 participants within the productive age range. After completing the questionnaire, participants received a collective education session delivered through posters. The educational material was tailored to the measurement results and distribution of DASS-42 scores obtained from the participants. The aim of this approach was to raise awareness of each individual's psychological condition and equip participants with knowledge about the early symptoms of common mental disorders. The screening results showed that a proportion of participants experienced mild to severe psychological symptoms, particularly in the anxiety domain. This finding indicates a hidden emotional burden that is not yet recognized by the individuals concerned. Through the delivery of visual education based on population measurement results, participants gained a better understanding of the urgency of early recognition of psychological problems and the importance of maintaining ongoing mental health. This activity demonstrated that visual education, such as posters, can be an effective tool in increasing mental health literacy among those of working age. Furthermore, the data-driven approach provided a more relevant and personalized impact, thus encouraging participant engagement in mental health prevention efforts.
