Abstract

Peripheral arterial disease is a disease that will cause circulatory problem, causing reduction of blood flow inside the artery. This disease approximately has by 6.5 million people above 40 years of age in the United State, and is expected to double with each decade. There are many risk factors for this disease, which includes dyslipidemia and age. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is one of the lipid component that affects dyslipidemia. This study aims to find out the effects of HDL and age to peripheral arterial disease incidence. The study was done in Yayasan Kalam Kudus, Jakarta on 02 June 2023, with the sample of people aged 18-60 years old, with non-randomized consecutive sampling method. The exclusion criteria on this study are respondents who refused to participate in the study, respondents who are amputated, respondents who has ulcer on the foot, and respondents with ankle-branchial index (ABI) above 1,3. The analysis done in this study are descriptive analysis as in proportion and distribution of centralized data, and analytic analysis using independent T-test and Mann Whitney test as an alternative test, with significance value of 5% (p-value = <0.05). Normality test was done before statistical analysis. From the study, we found out that age is significant role statistically in the incidence of peripheral arterial disease (p-value: 0.028), but levels of HDL are not statistically significant with the incidence of peripheral arterial disease (p-value: 0.084).

Abstract

Introduction: The third most common type of cancer and the second biggest killer of both men and women is colorectal cancer. Asia and Indonesia are two regions where this carcinoma is an issue. Purpose: To known distribution of gender, primary cancers site, differentiation status, and staging profile of colorectal carcinoma.Method: This research use descriptive observational methods. The Medical Record Tabulation Data of the Faculty of Medicine, UNTAR, from 2020 to 2023 provided the data for this study. Patients with colorectal carcinoma who underwent a routine histological examination met the inclusion criteria for this study. Gender, primary cancer site, differentiation status, and cancer staging profile (TNM classification) were the characteristics evaluated in this study. The statistical method utilized in this study was descriptive analysis. Result: The results of the study revealed that the average age of occurrence of colorectal carcinoma was 58.06 (13.08) years, dominated by male sex in 30 (58.8%) respondents, the most primary location was in the colon at 26 (52.0%) ) respondents, with generally good differentiation in 39 (76.5%) respondents. Conclusion: Colorectal carcinoma most often occurs in the colon and is generally well differentiated.

Abstract

Sarcopenia is a common condition among the elderly. Identifying individual risk factors associated with sarcopenia is essential for developing effective prevention strategies. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the association between insulin-like growth factor (IGF) levels and the incidence of sarcopenia, as assessed through mid-upper arm circumference and calf circumference, among older adults residing at Panti Werdha Bina Bhakti. Anthropometric measurements were obtained using a standard measuring tape, while IGF levels were measured through venous blood sampling and analyzed in a laboratory setting. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The study found that the average age of participants was 74.34 years, with 84.1% being female. The mean mid-upper arm circumference was 23.73 cm, and the mean calf circumference was 28.58 cm. The average IGF level was 14.43. Spearman’s rho analysis revealed a significant correlation between mid-upper arm and calf circumferences (r = 0.550; p < 0.001), as well as between mid-upper arm circumference and IGF levels (r = 0.237; p = 0.032). However, no significant correlation was observed between calf circumference and IGF levels (r = 0.176; p = 0.114). In conclusion, mid-upper arm circumference was significantly correlated with both calf circumference and IGF levels, whereas calf circumference showed no significant correlation with IGF in this elderly population. Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which the pressure in the blood vessels is too high and is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This study aims to evaluate the role of metabolic and anthropometric parameters in assessing the risk of hypertension in the productive age group in Duri Kosambi. This study used a cross-sectional design with 125 respondents aged 18-59 years. Data were collected through measurements of blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, fasting blood sugar, uric acid, BMI, waist circumference, and body composition using BIA. Linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between variables. Hemoglobin levels, fasting blood sugar, waist circumference, and major body skeletal muscle mass were found to have a significant effect on systolic blood pressure. Meanwhile, fasting blood sugar and visceral fat showed a significant effect on diastolic blood pressure. Metabolic and anthropometric parameters have an important role in assessing the risk of hypertension, indicating the need for appropriate interventions to reduce the risk of hypertension and related complications. Abstract

Imbalance in skin surface water and oil levels serves as an early indicator of skin barrier disruption, particularly in populations residing in tropical climates. Assessing these parameters can effectively raise public awareness regarding the importance of hydration in maintaining skin integrity. This community activity was conducted among adults at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta. Skin hydration and oil levels were measured using a portable digital skin analyzer, followed by group education through visual posters emphasizing the role of adequate fluid intake in supporting skin health. A total of 65 participants were assessed. The mean water content was 44.45%, oil content 21%, and the average hydration index was 49.3. While most participants fell within the neutral range, over one-third exhibited low water or oil levels, indicating a potential risk for impaired skin moisture balance. Skin hydration and sebum levels reflect the homeostatic condition of the skin surface, which is closely linked to systemic fluid adequacy. Education based on individual examination results provides a tangible understanding of the role of hydration in preserving skin barrier function, and may support behavioral change toward better fluid management and skin care.
