Abstract

ABSTRAK: Pengabdian masyarakat berupa pengembangan rajutan di kampung Aur Medan merupakan suatu kegiatan yang efektif dalam meningkatkan produktifitas masyarakat dalam menghasilkan barang rajutan yang berkualitas. Dalam pengabdian ini tim Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat FakultasIlmuBudayaUniversitas Sumatera Utara akan mengadakan workshop dan pendampingan dalam merajut. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan workshop adalah metode ceramah, tanya jawab, demonstrasi dan simulasi. Metode ceramah dan tanya Jawab digunakan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan teori-teori mengenai teknik dan cara merajut. Metode Simulasi dan demonstrasi digunakan agar masyarakat dapat mempraktekkan materi yang telah diterima sebelumnya. Setelah workshop dilaksanakan, tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat juga akan membantu membangun sanggar rajut sebagai tempat unuk memberikan pendampingan kepada masyarakat secara berkala.Kata Kunci: Pengembangan rajutan, Workshop, Kampung Aur Medan IbM Development of Knitwear in Kampung Aur MedanABSTRACT: Community service in the form of knit development in KampungAur Medan is an effective activity in improving the productivity of society in producing quality knitwear. In this program, devotion team of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences University of Sumatera Utara will hold workshops and mentoring in knitting. The methods used in the workshop are lecture, question and answer, demonstration and simulation. Lecture and Q & A methods are used to provide knowledge and theories about techniques and knitting. Simulation and demonstration methods are used so that people can practice materials that have been previously accepted. After the workshop is held, the team of community service will also help build a knitting house as a place to provide assistance to the community on a regular basis.Keywords: Development of knitwear, Workshop, Kampung Aur Medan

Abstract

Bahasa Mandarin telah dijadikan sebagai salah satu mata pelajaran di sekolah-sekolah yang ada di Indonesia termasuk TK/PAUD.Namun demikian, banyak kendala yang dihadapi oleh pihak sekolah. Minimnya pelatihan dan tenaga pendidik bahasa Mandarin untuk pendidikan anak usia dini menggerakkan hatiTim Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat USU untuk mengadakan pelatihan Pembelajaran Bahasa Mandarin Anak Usia Dini kepada tenaga pendidik pra-sekolah di salah satu sekolah Taman Kanak-Kanak yang ada di kota Medan yaitu RA Ar-Rahmah. Metode pelaksaan kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan intensif dengan perpaduan teori dan praktek serta diskusi dan unjuk kerja dari hasil pelatihan. Pengajaran bahasa Mandarin kepada para tenaga pendidik dilakukan dengan prinsip “Pengajaran bahasa Mandarin terhadap anak usia dini” dengan tetap mempertimbangkan dan menghormati posisi peserta sebagai pengajar yang memiliki latar belakang dan pengalaman yang berbeda-beda. Pelatihan mengikut prinsip TCFL (Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language)berupa materi yang aplikatif dan sederhana melaluiflashcard, kertas lipat, menyanyi lagu-lagu sederhana, cara memperkenalkan diri, dan lain-lain. Hasil praktek pengajaran yang dilakukan sangat memuaskan dan sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Kata kunci: Bahasa Mandarin, Anak-usia-dini, TCFL ABSTRACT Mandarin has been used as one of the subjects in Indonesia's schools including kindergarten/PAUD. However, many obstacles faced by the school. The lack of training and teaching staff of Mandarin for early childhood education moved the hearts of the USU Community Service Team to conduct Early Childhood Mandarin Learning training for pre-school educators in one of the Kindergarten schools in Medan, namely RA Ar -Rahmah. The method of this activity is intensive training with a blend of theory and practice as well as discussion and performance of the training results. Teaching Mandarin to educators is carried out with the principle of "Teaching Mandarin to young children" while still considering and respecting the position of participants as instructors who have different backgrounds and experiences.The training follows the principles of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language) in the form of applicative and simple material through flashcards, folding paper, singing simple songs, how to introduce yourself, etc. The results of the teaching practice carried out were very satisfying and as expected. Abstract

This research is to obtain male and female perspectives on taboo language. This study used qualitative research with a phenomenology approach. There are fourteen subjects in this research that consist of seven males and seven females, the age of the subject is categorized into a start from early adulthood to middle adulthood. The researchers used observation and gave questionnaires to find the data. The result of this research showed that; 1) males and females ever use taboo language, but a male dominantly used taboo language, about 57%, compared to females 14% in using taboo language in daily communication. 2.) A taboo language used by an adult is very limited;  adults only know about the taboo related to dirty words and insults, showing that taboo language understood by an adult is shifting in believing and practicing. 3) Male and Females have the same perspective towards taboo language, Most females believe that taboo is impolite words.

Abstract

(The Changes of Metaphor Classification in Laskar Pelangi Novelby Andrea Hirata Japanese Language Version BasedonTheir Cognitive Functions) This article analyzed the changes in the classification of metaphorical expressions contained in the Laskar Pelangi novel based on their cognitive functions after being translated into the Japanese version. The theory used in this research is the classification theory of metaphor based on its cognitive function proposed by Kovecses (2010). This study uses a qualitative research approach with a descriptive type of research, while the method and data analysis uses interactive data analysis models from Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The results of the data analysis showed that of 505 data found, there were 15 classifications of metaphor changes based on their cognitive functions, they are structural metaphors changed to structural metaphors consist of  95 data (18.8%), ontological metaphors to ontological metaphors consist of 151 data (29.9%), orientational metaphors to orientational metaphors consist of  5 data (1.0%), structural metaphor became ontological metaphor consist of 11 data (2.2%), structural metaphor became orientational metaphor consist of 2 data (0.4%), structural metaphor became simile consist of 2 data (0, 4%), structural metaphor becomes non-metaphoric consist of 67 data (13.3%), structural metaphor that was not translated consist of 4 data (0.8%), ontological metaphor became structural metaphors consist of 21 data (4.2%), ontological metaphor became orientational metaphor consist of 5 data (1,0%), ontological metaphor became simile consist of 10 data (2.0%), ontological metaphor became non metaphoric expression consist of 102 data (20.2%), untranslated ontological metaphor consist of 21 data (4.2%), orientational metaphor became non-metaphorical consist of 8 data (1.6%), and orientational metaphor became simile consist of 1 data (0.2%).

Abstract

Polysemy is a word that has more than one meaning. Not only limited to just one class of words, but polysemy is almost present in all classes of words. One of them is in kiru (切 る) verb. Kiru has the basic meaning 'cut' and has many meanings that often lead to errors in use, such as errors in translating Japanese sentences. Therefore in this research discussed the meaning of polysemi kiru verbs in Japanese sentences. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. The theory used is the theory of the expansion of contextual meaning and the polysemic meaning of Moriyama (2012). The data were obtained from sentences in discourses that used kiru verbs from various sources namely textbooks, novels and online newspapers. The results of this study were found 14 sentences in which there are kiru verbs. 13 sentences have the meaning of verb kiru cutting, dropping, opening, throwing, turning, starting, passing, actually already, stopping and breaking. But there is one sentence that occurs extension of meaning different the theory, namely the sentence shutta o kiru which means removing the shutter.

Abstract

The communication process involving a code mixing is an alternative to avoid misunderstandings in a bilingual community, a community having the phenomenon of speaking and understanding two or more languages, referring either to individuals or the entire society. This study aims to analyze the forms of code mixing using qualitative method. The data were obtained from recording of conversational discourse. The data collection strategy used the referral method, supported by basic techniques, namely tapping and advanced techniques, the skillful in-flight listening technique (SBLC). The results show that there are code mixing with the insertion of morphological elements in forms of nouns, numerals, verbs (infinitive and conjugation), adverbs (question and time), and adjectives;   the insertion of phrase in terms of noun phrases (objects and numerals), verb phrases, and adverb phrases); the insertion of clause in the forms of noun clauses, numeral clauses, verb clauses, and adverb clauses; and the insertion of idiomatic forms.  Code mixing of students of French language is also found in English language.

Abstract

This research was focused on taboo words used in Deli Javananese dialect. It was aimed at describing the classification of taboo words used in Deli Javanese dialect namely sex; death; excretion; bodily functions; religious matters; and politics and to investigate how frequent the taboo words were used by Javanese community in Karang Sari village of Medan city, North Sumatera.  The descriptive qualitative method was applied by describing taboo words used by the Javanese communtiy. The approach is sociolinguistics, which studies the perspectives of using taboo words among society in Deli Javanese dialect. The data were collected by interviewing three informants with different ages, and taking a note to identify the data of this research. The result showed that there were 18 taboo words found in Deli Javanese dialect and they were classified into six types of taboo word as mentioned before. It also showed that the causes of using taboo words were to express the emotion, such as anger, happiness, and surprises, to talk about sex, to joke and to insult. Hopefully all the findings may give some contributions and references for any further researches related to the use of taboo words within any language and also as communication guidance especially for speakers not to use taboo words.

Abstract

Language errors caused miscommunication or misunderstanding so that the message cannot well delivered. Pleonasm language errors are the use of excessive words and it can cause a language shift that is when language abnormalities affect the meaning of the language. The purpose of this study is to analyze factors that influence community's behavior in using language errors on facebook accounts of online shopping group based on sociolinguistic studies. This research is a type of mixed method research.The data in this study are words, phrases and sentences that contain pleonasm and contamination. Data sourced from netizens' uploads and comments in the online shopping group. Data collection is done by using substitution. The data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman and Saldana interactive model analysis techniques. Based on the results of the study found as many as 30 (5 forms of words, 20 forms of phrases and 5 forms of sentences), there were 11 contaminations (3 forms of words, 5 forms of sentences and 3 forms of phrases). There are as many as 99 forms of language errors consisting of 30 errors in the form of Lapses, 30 errors in the form of errors, 30 forms of errors in the form of mistakes. The factors that influence language errors such as mother tongue factors, age factors, motivational factors and habits, and environmental factors.

Abstract

Each language has its own characteristics, which can be seen by the interrogative construction themselves. Polar interrogative construction in Japanese will be discussed in this research. The research is kind of qualitative reasearch by using descriptive method. The data of the research is the polar interrogative construction consisted in the textbooks minnano nihongo shokyuu I and nameraka nihongo kaiwa. The theory of interrogative construction by Seimund (2011) was used as the theory in this research. The results of the research showed that the finding of polar interrogative construction was formed by the intonation, the addition of interrogative particle, and the interrogative tag. Meanwhile, the polar interrogative construction formed by the change of constituent order, verbal inflection, and disjunction was not found. The finding of polar interrogative construction in the textbook minna no nihongo shokyuu I is dominated by the polar interrogative construction which is formed by the adding of interrogative particle, while in the textbook nameraka nihongo kaiwa is dominated by the polar interrogative construction which is formed by the intonation. AbstrakSetiap bahasa memiliki karakteristik tersendiri. Karakteristik tersebut dapat dilihat dari konstruksi interogatifnya. Pada penelitian ini akan dibahas mengenai konstruksi interogatif polar dalam bahasa Jepang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah konstruksi interogatif polar yang terdapat dalam bukuMinna No Nihongo Shokyuu I, Nameraka Nihongo Kaiwa,dan komikOremonogatariChapter1karangan Kazune Kawahara danAruko.Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori konstruksi interogatif Siemund (2001). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah konstruksi interogatif polar yang wujud terbentuk dari intonasi, penambahan partikel interogatif,dan taginterogatif. Sementarakonstruksi interogatif polar yang terbentuk dengan perubahan urutan konstituen, infleksi verbal dan disjungsi tidak ditemukan. Konstruksi interogatif polar yang wujud dalam buku Minna No Nihongo Shokyuu I dankomikOremonogatariChapter 1 didominasi oleh konstruksi interogatif polar yang terbentuk dari penambahan partikel interogatif,sementara pada buku Nameraka Nihongo Kaiwadidominasi oleh konstruksi interogatif polar yang terbentuk dari intonasi.

Abstract

Community service activities 'Basic Japanese Language Conversation Learning (Nihongo no Kaiwa) through active learning for Yayasan Fajar Sejahtera Indonesia (YAFSI) volunteers in Medan' is an appropriate activity in improving the foreign language qualifications of volunteers who are active in the community. YAFSI is a foundation engaged in the field of community empowerment, specifically women's empowerment and child protection in Medan. In this service, the team in collaboration with the YAFSI has held Japanese language conversation training with active learning methods for one month. The active learning method is proven able to facilitate the emergence of life skills. This learning leads to optimizing the intellectual and emotional involvement of students in the learning process, directed to learn students to learn to obtain and process the acquisition of learning through knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. The lecture and Q&A method is also used to provide knowledge and theories about the basics of Japanese. After the training was conducted, the community service team also provided assistance with Japanese learning literature materials. The development of YAFSI volunteers in community service activities is reportedly written and published in the mass media.
