Abstract

Physical activity is an activity that we often do, especially walking, so far we have considered walking to be tiring, but it has great benefits for our body physiology both mentally, cognitively and physically, managing emotional functions related to cognitive function. Cognitive is an important part of humans in thinking and reasoning. Especially with the many activities of the younger generation today but who are less sensitive to their health, so that they are at risk of cognitive disorders. One can be done by walking. The purpose of the study was to determine the Effectiveness of Physical Activity: Walking on Cognitive Disorders in young adults. The research method used a pre-experimental pretest and posttest design with control, with a total of 44 samples, consisting of 22 interventions and 22 controls, walking activities were carried out for three consecutive days, with a duration of 60 minutes, at 16.00-17.00 WIB, on December 16-18, 2024. The sample criteria were first-year nursing students who carried out walking activities continuously for three days. The results of the study showed that the significance value of cognitive impairment obtained was (Z = -2.646, p = 0.008). This means that there is a significant difference in the level of cognitive impairment between before and after the intervention of physical activity. The significance value of cognitive impairment obtained was (Z = 0.000, p = 1.000). This means that there is no difference in the level of cognitive impairment in the control group. The significance value of cognitive impairment obtained was (Z = -,935, p = 0.350). This means that there is no significant difference in the level of cognitive impairment between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention of physical activity. These results explain that there is no significant difference between intervention and control. Suggestions are that there needs to be continuous and periodic activities so that the results can be maximized, because cognitive cannot change simultaneously, so it must be accompanied by routine activities, not just incidental activities, to get good results.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition characterized by an increase in blood pressure, defined as systolic values ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic values ≥ 90 mmHg, and it remains one of the most common health problems experienced by the elderly. Non-pharmacological approaches such as low-impact aerobic exercise are recommended, as this type of exercise is performed at a low to moderate intensity for 20–50 minutes, three times a week. It has been shown to strengthen and maintain the functions of the heart, lungs, blood circulation, muscles, and joints, thereby contributing positively to the management of high blood pressure. This study aims to determine the effect of low-impact aerobic exercise on blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension through the application of evidence-based practice. A quantitative case study approach was employed to gain a deeper understanding of changes in blood pressure following the intervention. Three elderly respondents diagnosed with hypertension were involved and instructed to perform low-impact aerobic exercise for three consecutive days. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure among all respondents, although the outcomes varied. The first respondent experienced changes from 140/80 mmHg to 130/70 mmHg and 130/90 mmHg, the second respondent from 150/90 mmHg to 160/80 mmHg and then 150/70 mmHg, and the third respondent from 150/80 mmHg to 110/70 mmHg and 130/70 mmHg. These findings indicate that low-impact aerobic exercise has a positive effect in reducing blood pressure, despite some variability between individuals. In conclusion, low-impact aerobic exercise is proven to help control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This study highlights the importance of encouraging hypertensive individuals to adopt regular and independent low-impact aerobic exercise as a simple strategy to maintain stable blood pressure and improve overall quality of life.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease that can affect the quality of life of sufferers. Social support is often considered a contributing factor to the quality of life of pulmonary TB patients, but research results on this relationship are still mixed. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social support and the quality of life of pulmonary TB patients. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. consisting of 33 pulmonary TB patients registered at one of the health centers in Palembang city. Data were collected using a questionnaire that included a social support scale, a stigma scale, and the WHOQOL-BREF instrument to measure quality of life. Correlation analysis showed that social support had a weak positive relationship with quality of life (r = 0.33; p = 0.05) which means that the higher the social support received by the respondents, the better their quality of life. Social support contributes positively to improving the quality of life of pulmonary tuberculosis patients

Abstract

Individuals over the age of 60 are vulnerable to a decline in body functions, including nervous system functions that can lead to cognitive impairment and dementia. This condition can cause the elderly to be unable to perform activities, thereby impacting their well-being and happiness. One effort to overcome this is through crossword puzzle therapy to stimulate and improve cognitive function. To implement research-based nursing actions for the elderly with decreased cognitive function. The design used in this final nursing thesis is a case study with an intervention involving crossword puzzle therapy. The number of respondents was four, with the intervention conducted over one week at a frequency of twice daily, starting from June 22–28, 2025, and continuing from June 28–July 5, 2025, at the Dharma Bhakti Elderly Care Home KM 7 Palembang. After undergoing crossword puzzle therapy for one consecutive week, the four elderly participants showed changes in their MMSE scores at the final meeting: Mrs. L from 20 to 22, Mrs. M from 18 to 20, Mrs. A from 21 to 22, and Mrs. N from 22 to 23. Here was an improvement in cognitive function before and after crossword puzzle therapy was administered to the four participants. The application of this EBP is expected to add information about the provision of crossword puzzle therapy in the elderly with cognitive decline.
