Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in the average learning outcomes of students taught using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by GeoGebra and those taught using direct instruction on the topic of three-dimensional geometry in Grade IX. The research was motivated by the low student achievement, which is caused by difficulties in understanding the properties of three-dimensional shapes as well as limitations in the use of media and the application of less appropriate teaching models. This study is a quantitative research with a Quasi-Experimental approach, specifically the nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 128 students, divided into two experimental classes and two control classes, selected through random sampling techniques. The data collection instrument was a test administered in the form of pretest and post-test, which had been validated by experts. Descriptive analysis results showed that the average post-test scores in the experimental classes (80.69 and 78.63) were higher than those in the control classes (74.38 and 73.28). The hypothesis testing using the independent sample t-test indicated a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the average learning outcomes of students in the two groups. Furthermore, the N-gain analysis results showed that the improvement in learning outcomes in the experimental classes was 0.47 (medium category), which was higher than that in the control classes at 0.36. Therefore, the PBL model assisted by GeoGebra is effective in improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes on the topic of three-dimensional geometry. Keywords: problem-based learning, GeoGebra, learning outcomes, three-dimensional shapes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the RME (Realistic Mathematics Education) approach on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students in statistics. This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The population of this study consists of eighth-grade students at SMP Labschool UNTAD Palu, comprising four classes with a total of 100 students. A sample of 50 students was selected using random sampling. The data collection methods used were learning outcomes from essay-based tests and observations. The data analysis techniques used were the independent samples t-test and the N-Gain test. The results of the independent samples t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001, indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The N-Gain Score calculation for the experimental class yielded a value of 0.66, which falls into the moderate category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the RME approach is effective in improving the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students in statistics. The effectiveness of the RME approach is supported by learning stages that link mathematical concepts to real-life situations, enabling students to build understanding and deepen their grasp of statistical concepts, thereby improving their learning outcomes. Abstract

The purpose study is to analyze mathematics learning outcomes based on three zones, zone 1: SMA 1, zone 2: SMA 2, and zone 3: SMA 3. Class XI students were research objects taken from each zonation with a total sample of 155 for zone 1, 116 for zone 2, and 116 for zone 3, a total is 387 students. The results showed that the average mathematics learning outcomes for SMA Palu students based on zoning, namely zone 1, zone 2, and zone 3, obtained a score of 83.71, above the KKM. The test results of the analysis of variance in mathematics learning outcomes at Palu City High School based on Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 did not have a significant difference, which means that the ability levels of the three zones have the same mathematics learning outcomes. This result is due to the implementation of PPDB with a zoning system that can distribute new students well based on the zonation setting in the High School education unit in Palu, especially the distance between where they live and school. Conclude that the process of admitting new students with a zoning system was successfully carried out based on the criteria set by the Government and Department of Education for the 2021/2022 school year.

Abstract

Mathematics plays an important role in daily life, but students often have trouble solving word problems, especially on the topic of direct proportion. This difficulty highlights the need for a profile of students' problem-solving processes to help teachers identify where learning challenges occur. This study aims to describe the problem-solving profile for direct proportion based on the logical-mathematical intelligence of eighth-grade students at SMPN 19 Palu. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were two eighth-grade students chosen based on the results of logical-mathematical intelligence questionnaire, each representing the high (AST) and low (PTR) categories. Data was collected through written tests and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using techniques of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that AST was able to complete all four stages of Polya completely and accurately with the correct answer (12 liters), while PTR only managed to understand the problem stage and made fundamental conceptual mistakes in the next stages (wrong answer: 5.333 liters). PTR also couldn't verify the answer. It was concluded that mathematical logical intelligence has a decisive influence on the quality of solving ratio problems at each stage of Polya.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of adversity quotient, learning interest, and parental attention on mathematics learning outcomes of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The study population was 62 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu, all of whom were sampled using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires to measure adversity quotient, learning interest, and parental attention, as well as mathematics learning outcome tests. Data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression analysis and multiple linear regression after fulfilling the analysis prerequisite test and classical assumption test. The results showed that: 1) adversity quotient has a positive and significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes with a contribution of 12.8%, 2) learning interest also has a positive and significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes by 21.2%, 3) parental attention has a positive and significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes, but provides a very small contribution of 0.02%. Simultaneously, adversity quotient, learning interest, and parental attention have a positive and significant effect on students' mathematics learning outcomes with a coefficient of determination of 30.9%. The results of this study indicate that despite the large contribution of each variable, students' mathematics learning outcomes are more dominantly influenced by internal factors, namely adversity quotient and learning interest, compared to external factors such as parental attention. Therefore, improving mathematics learning outcomes needs to be focused on developing students' fighting spirit and learning interest without neglecting parental support. Keywords: adversity quotient, interest in learning, parental attention, mathematics learning outcomes.
