Abstract

This study aims to explore the acculturation and assimilation processes that ethnic Chinese in West Sumatra undergo upon converting to Islam, that the conversion does not lead to an outright abandonment of traditions. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, this research underscores how religious conversion fundamentally alters an individual's worldview and behavior. Converts to Islam are encouraged to earnestly learn and adhere to Sharia and Islamic teachings, initiating their spiritual journey with religious observances and distancing themselves from practices associated with their former beliefs. However, the conversion process is significantly influenced by one's environment, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the assimilation and acculturation experience of ethnic Chinese Muslims. This environment encompasses both familial and social contexts. The family environment, where individuals are connected by kinship—whether as children, spouses, or other familial roles—is marked by intensive interaction and communication. Yet, this close-knit communication does not necessarily guarantee a seamless conversion to another faith. Beyond the family, the surrounding social environment, including the workplace, extended family, and broader societal interactions, also impacts the conversion journey. Within these spheres, various factors either facilitate or hinder the process of embracing Islam for ethnic Chinese individuals. This study delves into these dynamics, examining the multifaceted influences on religious conversion and the subsequent negotiation between maintaining cultural heritage and adopting new religious identities. Through this analysis, the research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between religion, culture, and identity among ethnic Chinese Muslims in West Sumatra

Abstract

Islamic education for the Chinese Muslim minority in West Sumatra is a process fraught with challenges while offering significant opportunities in a multicultural society. This study aims to explore the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the implementation of Islamic education in this community and to formulate strategies for optimizing its potential. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research employed in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature analysis. The participants consisted of 15 Chinese Muslims (8 males and 7 females), aged between 25 and 60 years, including community leaders, educators, parents, and youth actively involved in Islamic educational settings in Padang and Payakumbuh. The findings reveal that social support from the local community, the presence of inclusive educational institutions, the role of organizations like PITI, and family economic stability are key supporting elements. However, the community faces significant challenges, including social discrimination, lack of support from formal institutions, difficulties in cultural integration, and limited awareness of the importance of religious education. This study recommends a collaborative approach between the government, educational institutions, and society to create a more inclusive educational ecosystem. Such efforts are expected to strengthen the Islamic identity of Chinese Muslims and encourage their active participation in a pluralistic society.

Abstract

Penelitian pendidikan yang berkualitas menuntut penentuan populasi dan pemilihan sampel yang tepat agar hasilnya valid dan dapat digeneralisasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara mendalam konsep, jenis, dan teknik pemilihan populasi dan sampel dalam penelitian pendidikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan menganalisis lebih dari 25 sumber literatur ilmiah yang relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman terhadap jenis populasi baik terbatas maupun tak terbatas serta pemilihan teknik sampling yang sesuai, seperti probability dan non-probability sampling, sangat memengaruhi representativitas data. Penelitian juga menemukan bahwa tantangan seperti heterogenitas subjek, keterbatasan sumber daya, dan kesalahan dalam ukuran atau teknik sampling dapat berdampak pada validitas hasil. Strategi seperti perencanaan sampling yang cermat, penggunaan teknologi, serta validasi data dapat membantu mengatasi tantangan tersebut. Implikasinya, peneliti pendidikan perlu memiliki kompetensi dalam merancang strategi sampling agar hasil penelitian benar-benar mencerminkan realitas dan dapat digunakan dalam pengambilan keputusan berbasis bukti.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi variabel-variabel dalam penelitian pendidikan serta menganalisis jenis sumber data yang digunakan. Fokus diarahkan pada klasifikasi variabel independen, dependen, kontrol, dan moderator serta pengelompokan sumber data menjadi data primer dan sekunder. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kepustakaan dengan menelaah literatur dari berbagai referensi penelitian pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kurangnya pemahaman terhadap variabel dan sumber data dapat memengaruhi keakuratan rancangan penelitian. Banyak proposal penelitian belum mengaitkan jenis variabel dengan sumber data yang relevan. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya pengetahuan konseptual dan praktis dalam merancang penelitian yang valid. Kesalahan dalam menentukan variabel atau sumber data berdampak pada ketidaksesuaian instrumen dan analisis. Oleh karena itu, pemahaman terhadap komponen dasar penelitian sangat penting, terutama bagi peneliti pemula. Studi ini merekomendasikan pelatihan metodologis untuk memahami keterkaitan antara variabel, sumber data, dan instrumen. Pendekatan yang tepat dapat meningkatkan kualitas dan kontribusi penelitian pendidikan

Abstract

Menyusun proposal penelitian dalam bidang pendidikan masih menjadi permasalahan yang signifikan di kalangan mahasiswa dan peneliti pemula. Sebagian besar dari mereka mengalami kebingungan dalam memahami tahapan yang berurutan, mulai dari merumuskan latar belakang penelitian hingga menetapkan tujuan penelitian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan dan menjelaskan secara sistematis langkah-langkah dalam penyusunan proposal penelitian pendidikan yang sesuai dengan kaidah akademik yang berlaku. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif dengan strategi studi pustaka sebagai metode utama. Data diperoleh dari buku-buku metodologi penelitian, artikel ilmiah dari jurnal akademik, serta panduan akademik dari institusi pendidikan tinggi. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa langkah-langkah yang paling tepat dalam menyusun proposal penelitian mencakup: pemilihan topik, penyusunan latar belakang masalah, identifikasi dan perumusan isu penelitian, penentuan ruang lingkup, penetapan tujuan penelitian, dan pemilihan metodologi. Koherensi dan konsistensi antar komponen tersebut sangat menentukan kualitas proposal

Abstract

Keandalan dan ketepatan instrumen merupakan elemen krusial dalam menghasilkan data berkualitas pada penelitian di bidang pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konsep, jenis, dan teknik pengujian validitas serta reliabilitas instrumen dalam konteks penelitian pendidikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, kajian ini menghimpun dan mensintesis teori-teori dari berbagai literatur ilmiah yang kredibel. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan instrumen yang baik harus diawali dengan perumusan konstruk yang jelas, penyusunan kisi-kisi, validasi ahli, serta uji coba empiris dengan teknik statistik yang tepat, seperti uji validitas isi dan koefisien reliabilitas. Selain itu, faktor eksternal seperti kompetensi peneliti dan kondisi subjek juga memengaruhi kualitas pengukuran. Oleh karena itu, uji validitas dan reliabilitas bukan hanya prosedur teknis, melainkan bagian integral dalam memastikan mutu data dan keabsahan hasil penelitian di bidang pendidikan.

Abstract

Kesalahan prosedural dalam pelaksanaan penelitian pendidikan masih menjadi persoalan serius yang berdampak pada validitas, reliabilitas, dan kualitas hasil penelitian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi berbagai bentuk kesalahan prosedural yang umum terjadi dalam penelitian pendidikan serta menganalisis dampaknya terhadap keandalan temuan ilmiah. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kepustakaan dengan menelaah sumber-sumber relevan seperti jurnal ilmiah, skripsi, tesis, dan disertasi yang terbit antara tahun 2015–2024. Hasil kajian menunjukkan lima kategori kesalahan dominan, yaitu: kesalahan dalam perumusan masalah, pemilihan metode yang tidak tepat, penyusunan instrumen yang tidak tervalidasi, teknik pengambilan sampel yang tidak representatif, serta penggunaan analisis data yang tidak sesuai dengan jenis data. Kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut mencerminkan lemahnya pemahaman peneliti terhadap prinsip metodologis serta kurangnya bimbingan akademik yang efektif. Implikasinya, dibutuhkan penguatan literasi metodologi melalui pelatihan, pembenahan kurikulum penelitian, dan supervisi yang ketat agar kualitas penelitian pendidikan di Indonesia dapat ditingkatkan secara sistematis dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Educational research plays an important role in the development of educational science and practice, especially in Islamic educational institutions, as an alternative solution to the reliance on experience and intuition, which tend to be subjective and biased. This article aims to analyze the types of educational research and their characteristics, and discuss their relevance in the preparation of quality scientific work in the context of Islamic educational institutions. The method used is library research with a descriptive approach. The research shows that with a comprehensive understanding with the selection of qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, and development research types must be adjusted to the objectives, context of the problem, and the needs of the analysis in order to produce relevant and in-depth scientific work in the environment of Islamic educational institution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics and dilemmas faced by Pesantren Salafiyah in West Sumatra in maintaining traditional Islamic education amidst the currents of modernization and globalization. The research approach used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The research subjects included kiai, teachers or ustadz, santri, almuni, and the surrounding community from several pesantren salafiyah, namely Pesantren Ashhabul Yamin Lasi in Agam Regency, Pesantren al-Manaar Batuampar in Lima Puluh Kota, MTI III Kampung Candung, MTI Tengku Tuah in Lima Puluh Kota, Pondok, and MTI Batang Kabung. The study’s results indicate that pesantren salafiyah play an important role in preserving the treasures of classical Islamic knowledge by teaching “kitab kuning” (classical Islamic texts) using traditional methods such as bandongan, sorogan, and halaqah. However, pesantren faces complex challenges, including changes in educational policies, limited resources, leadership renewal, and public perceptions of the relevance of pesantren graduates in the modern world. Nevertheless, many pesantren demonstrate adaptive capabilities through selective integration of modern elements, such as the addition of a general curriculum, strengthened management, and the use of learning technology, without abandoning their scholarly identity. The principle of "al-muhafazhah 'ala al-qadim al-shalih wa al-akhdz bi al-jadid al-ashlah" (religious guidance, the guidance of the righteous) serves as the basis for maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. With wise and collaborative management, pesantren salafiyah has the potential to become models of relevant and sustainable Islamic education.
