Abstract

In the era of globalization and the complexity of global challenges, education faces pressure to produce graduates who are able to think critically, adaptively, and provide solutions to global problems such as climate change, social inequality, and the technological crisis. At the national level, educational curricula are often sectoral and partial, thus failing to prepare students to face the dynamics of global problems holistically. The urgency of this study arises from the need for innovative pedagogical strategies that can bridge the learning of disciplinary concepts with the real application of complex problems, while being relevant for the development of 21st-century education. This study aims to analyze the transdisciplinary approach as a framework for developing a learning model based on complex global problems, emphasizing its contribution to the integration of knowledge, values, and critical thinking skills of students. The study used a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources in the form of educational theory books, international journal articles, curriculum policies, and research reports related to transdisciplinary learning. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically using conceptual and comparative synthesis techniques, and data validity strategies through source triangulation and expert validation. The results show that the transdisciplinary approach enables the integration of cross-disciplinary perspectives, improves complex problem-solving abilities, and encourages contextual learning that is relevant globally and locally. The developed model of complex global problem-based learning emphasizes collaboration, critical reflection, and real-world applicability. The implications of this study confirm its theoretical contribution in expanding the holistic education paradigm and its practical implications for educators in designing innovative learning strategies responsive to global challenges.

Abstract

This study was conducted to address the low level of students’ scientific literacy in IPAS learning, particularly on biodiversity topics. This issue was evident in students’ limited ability to understand scientific concepts, relate scientific knowledge to their surrounding environment, and explain as well as draw simple conclusions from scientific information. The study aimed to investigate the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students’ scientific literacy, identify challenges encountered during project-based learning, and describe strategies to overcome these challenges. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were fourth-grade students of MI Al-Munawwarah, Jambi City. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and scientific literacy questionnaires. The results indicated that the application of the PjBL model significantly improved students’ scientific literacy, increasing from 16.7% in the pre-cycle to 58.3% in Cycle I and further to 87.5% in Cycle II. Therefore, Project Based Learning (PjBL) is effective in enhancing students’ scientific literacy on biodiversity in IPAS learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the effectiveness of the Full Day School system on character formation among students at SD Muhammadiyah 23 Medan. The increasing moral degradation and juvenile delinquency in society have prompted the implementation of Full Day School as a solution to reinforce students’ character by extending school hours to 9-10 hours daily. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the contribution of Full Day School effectiveness in shaping student character. Employing a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis, data were collected through validated questionnaires from a sample of 170 students. The results show a significant positive effect of Full Day School effectiveness on character formation, with a regression coefficient of 2.390 and a determination coefficient (R²) of 0.646, indicating that 64.6% of the variance in character development can be explained by the Full Day School system. Thus, Full Day School plays a crucial role in fostering values such as discipline, honesty, religiosity, tolerance, and social cooperation. The study indicates the necessity of support from both school and family environments to optimize character education. These findings offer practical insights for educational institutions aiming to improve students’ moral development through extended learning hours and structured activities.
