Abstract

Manduro MG Village has limited natural resources, and most of its residents work as factory employees. Although they have small plots of land around their homes, they have not utilized them optimally. Therefore, the community service team implemented the Asset-Based Community-Driven Development (ABCD) method to raise awareness and enhance residents' skills in utilizing available assets. This program was conducted through Eco-print training, a natural dyeing technique using leaves, twigs, and flowers to create eco-friendly products. The training consisted of four sessions: introduction, pounding technique demonstration, hands-on product creation, and digital marketing training using Canva and social media. The evaluation measured skill improvement through direct observation and discussion, as well as observations of production and marketing progress. Results showed that 85% of participants successfully created standard-quality products, and some initiated Eco-print-based businesses. This program is expected to foster new SMEs and boost the economic productivity of Manduro MG Village.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, national identity poses a unique challenge, particularly for Indonesian diaspora children living far from their homeland. The children at Sanggar Bimbingan Sungai Mulia 5 (SB SM 5) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are mostly migrant children growing up in environments with minimal exposure to Indonesian culture. This condition risks weakening their emotional connection to national identity and the cultural heritage of Nusantara. This international community service program aims to enhance the national awareness of children aged 10–14 years at SB SM 5 by introducing the cultural heritage of Borobudur Temple as a symbol of national civilization and traditional Javanese games such as cublak-cublak suweng. The methods used include participatory approaches, edutainment, and experiential learning, designed to create an interactive and enjoyable learning experience. The children participated in activities such as visual presentations, storytelling, hands-on traditional games, and reflections on national values. The results demonstrated an increase in knowledge about Borobudur from 10% to 90% and a high level of enthusiasm for traditional games. The children not only gained an understanding of Indonesian culture but also felt a sense of pride and emotional closeness to their homeland. As a follow-up, plans include the development of digital modules, regular cultural classes, and collaboration with diaspora communities to ensure the sustainability of this program. This initiative successfully established an emotional connection between diaspora children and Indonesia's cultural identity, making it a model applicable to other diaspora communities

Abstract

Sumber Rejeki Welding Workshop is one of the small and medium enterprises engaged in manufacturing and welding services in Malang City. In its production process, the workshop still relies on conventional welding methods that are less efficient and produce suboptimal weld quality. Therefore, this community service program aims to enhance production efficiency and quality by implementing Gas Tungsten Arc Welding technology and assisting in applying occupational health and safety standards. The implementation method of this program includes several stages: the preparation stage, which involves identifying partner needs and machine installation; the training stage, consisting of theoretical and practical sessions for operators; the production assistance stage; and the evaluation stage, using the Non-Destructive Testing method with penetrant testing techniques to assess weld quality. The results of this program implementation indicate a 30% improvement in production efficiency, with reduced processing time and fewer welding defects. Significant economic impacts are also evident through increased production capacity and the workshop's competitiveness in the local market. Furthermore, the provided training has enhanced the operators' skills in machine operation and raised their awareness of the importance of occupational safety standards. This program demonstrates that adopting modern welding technology can significantly improve productivity and product quality, making it a potential model for application in other small and medium enterprises to boost competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing global health issue, with dietary management posing significant challenges for patients. The habit of consuming high-sugar and high-fat snacks, as observed at Bajeng Community Health Center, Gowa Regency, increases the risk of serious complications, including diabetic ulcers and cardiovascular diseases. This program aimed to develop and optimize Golden Rice Cookies, a healthy snack enriched with locally sourced Piper crocatum extract, as a nutritional alternative for DM patients. A participatory approach was employed, involving an initial analysis of partner conditions, product development through organoleptic and hedonic testing, and education on diabetes dietary management. Over three months, patients consumed Golden Rice Cookies, and outcomes were evaluated based on fasting blood glucose (FBG), body mass index (BMI), and dietary compliance levels. The results demonstrated that Golden Rice Cookies were well-received, with high satisfaction scores for taste, aroma, and texture (≥4 on a 5-point scale). Regular consumption significantly reduced FBG by an average of 29.9 mg/dL, BMI by 1.3 kg/m², and increased dietary compliance by 20.5%. The flavonoids and polyphenols in P. crocatum contributed to oxidative stress suppression, inflammation reduction, and modulation of key biomarkers such as MMP-9 and NGAL. This program successfully empowered DM patients to manage their condition through a sustainable and locally based nutritional innovation. This approach holds promise for replication in other regions with high diabetes prevalence to support more effective and sustainable diabetes management.

Abstract

The development of communication technology has often not aligned with efforts to foster children’s interest in history. History, which often focuses on narratives of past suffering or becomes entangled in debates over truth, tends to be perceived as uninspiring and unappealing. As a result, history is increasingly overlooked, particularly by children, amid the dominance of pop culture. Through a visual communication approach, this community service program developed child-friendly historical narratives and actively involved children as participants. The story of Ken Arok and Ken Dedes, rooted in the history of the Singosari Kingdom in Malang, was chosen as the learning material due to its significance as an important part of local history. The program engaged students of TK Dharma Putra Malang as the participants. This program uses audio-visual design products, storytelling activities based on story books, using activity books as tools of historical learning for kindergarten students, while the students are accompanied by the facilitators who consist of the members of the Community Service team and also the teachers of the school. This approach not only aimed to introduce history to children but also sought to cultivate their interest and pride in the legacy of local culture. The community service initiative demonstrates that introducing history through creative media can enhance children’s enthusiasm and participation in learning history. This program is intended to inspire enjoyable and effective ways of teaching history in the digital age.

Abstract

In facing global challenges related to environmental degradation, schools play a role as strategic institutions in instilling environmental care values in students. Socialization with the theme “Environmentally Friendly Generation” is the first step in building the character of environmental care to provide knowledge and understanding related to environmental care to students at SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng. The socialization was conducted for students in grades VII-IX of SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng on November 22, 2024. An interactive socialization approach was used in community service through this socialization. The results of the socialization showed that students had understood the material given, as indicated by the evaluation results, which showed the average ability of students to answer questions correctly by 88%. As many as 90% of students answered evaluation questions correctly related to basic environmental concepts. However, aspects of the concept of recycling and renewable energy sources still need to be given an understanding.
