Abstract

Stunting is a major global health issue, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia, where its prevalence remains high. It is characterized by a child’s height being below the standard for their age due to chronic malnutrition. The causes of stunting are multifactorial, including recurrent or chronic infectious diseases. This study aims to systematically analyze the association between infectious diseases—especially intestinal parasitic infections—and chronic inflammation with stunting in children under five. A literature review was conducted by collecting articles from Google Scholar, Scopus, Dimension, and BASE. Inclusion criteria were publications from 2015–2025, full-text availability, presence of DOI or ISSN, and relevance of titles and abstracts to the study objectives. A total of 314 articles were identified, 72 were screened, and 11 met the criteria for full analysis. The findings reveal that intestinal worm infections are significantly associated with stunting. Eosinophilia, an indicator of parasitic infection, was found to be higher in stunted children. Furthermore, elevated C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels were linked to chronic inflammation that impairs growth. These results highlight the importance of managing infectious diseases as part of stunting prevention. Comprehensive nutritional and health interventions are essential. Efforts should also focus on improving access to healthcare services and nutritional education for families.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a serious, long-term, or chronic condition that cannot be cured, caused by increased blood glucose levels because the body cannot produce the hormone insulin in the right amount. This causes DM sufferers to be at risk of experiencing several complications that can be debilitating and life-threatening, resulting in an increased need for medical care. Non-pharmacological therapies that can be done as an effort to control blood sugar levels are brisk walking exercise and hydrotherapy. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of brisk walking exercise and hydrotherapy on blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus sufferers. The research method used was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group posttest. Sampling used a simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 28 people in each group. The statistical tests used were paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a difference in average blood sugar levels before and after exercise in the intervention group and the control group, with a p-value of 0.001. The statistical test results showed a difference in average blood sugar levels after physical exercise between the intervention and control groups, with a p-value of 0.020. This study concluded that the combination of brisk walking and hydrotherapy can reduce blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

The triple elimination program aims to prevent the vertical transmission of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis in newborns. However, the effectiveness of educational efforts for pregnant women remains a challenge. The Triple Elimination Flip chart was developed as an interactive educational tool, expected to be more effective than leaflets in improving pregnant women’s knowledge, attitudes, and preventive actions regarding triple elimination screening. This study employed a randomized pretest-posttest control group design with purposive sampling. Participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group that received education using LeB3E and a control group that received a leaflet. Measurements were taken before and after the intervention using a questionnaire assessing knowledge, attitudes, and actions, and the data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests in SPSS. The results showed that LeB3E was more effective than leaflets in enhancing pregnant women’s knowledge, attitudes, and preventive actions regarding triple elimination screening. The intervention group demonstrated a significantly greater improvement compared to the control group. The Triple Elimination Flip chart has proven to be a more effective educational tool than leaflets in increasing pregnant women's knowledge, attitudes, and actions towards triple elimination screening. Integrating LeB3E into antenatal care services is recommended as an educational strategy to support efforts in preventing the vertical transmission of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis.

Abstract

Nursing professional students are future professional nurses. A clinical perceptor is a clinical nurse who is tasked with teaching and supporting students of the nursing profession in carrying out services. Caring is a service that can affect patient and family satisfaction. This study aimed to analyze the caring of nursing students from the perspective of clinical preceptors. The research method uses an explanatory mixed-methods approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, so that 74 respondents were obtained, consisting of 70 respondents for quantitative research and 4 respondents for qualitative research. Quantitative data using caring assessment tools and qualitative data were obtained through in-depth individual interviews. Quantitative data is determined by descriptive analysis using strategic issues determined by the mean composite average of each item. The average value of the composite mean >3 will be used as a strategic issue. The results of the study showed an overall mean composite average of 2.8. Based on the results of the interview, 3 themes were obtained: students still often play mobile phones when interacting with patients and families, are embarrassed to ask for competence, and habituation of caring. The principle of caring in providing nursing services should be applied by students by way of role models from clinical nurses and habituation of the application of caring from the academic stage.

Abstract

Stroke is a problem that is often experienced by the elderly. A stroke occurs when a cerebral blood vessel ruptures or is blocked, causing a portion of the brain to lose its blood supply to carry the necessary oxygen, leading to tissue death. Neurological disorders, such as vestibular disorders, are one of the conditions and risk factors that can cause balance disorders. This study aims to determine the effect of Gaze Stability Exercise on the balance of the elderly with a history of post-stroke. This study used a type of pre-experiment research with a one-group pre-post test design. Samples were selected based on a purposive sampling method with a total sample of 20 elderly people. The intervention was carried out 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Balance measurement using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT). The average TUGT before intervention was 17.81 seconds, and after intervention was 16.26 seconds. The results of statistical tests using the Paired T Test test the results obtained, a p-value of 0.002 (p <0.05). This study shows that there is an effect of Gaze Stability Exercise intervention on the balance of the elderly with a history of post-stroke.

Abstract

Prolonged diabetes mellitus (DM) can lead to microvascular and macrovascular complications. The increased risk of complications is closely associated with uncontrolled blood glucose levels, which can be assessed using the HbA1c parameter. The elevated risk of vascular complications arises due to a prothrombotic state, partly caused by increased platelet activity. Platelet activity can be evaluated through platelet indices, namely Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Widht (PDW), Platelet Large Cell Ratio (P-LCR) and Plateletcrit (PCT). This study aims to analyze the relationship between HbA1c levels and platelet indices (MPV, PDW, P-LCR, PCT) in Type 2 DM patients. The type of research used is an analytical survey with a correlation study approach using secondary data from 107 samples of Type 2 DM patients with inclusion criteria: type 2 DM patients with HbA1c levels ≥ 6.5% and exclusion criteria: patients have not received blood transfusions in the last 3 months, DHF and Anemia taken at Bandung Kiwari Hospital, selected using a purposive sampling technique with a sample size calculated using the Lemeshow formula. HbA1c levels were measured using the HPLC ion-exchange method. While the platelet index was calculated using an automatic hematology device. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a weak positive correlation between HbA1c levels and PCT (correlation coefficient r = 0.197 and p = 0.042), while no significant relationship was found between HbA1c levels and MPV, PDW and P-LCR with (MPV: r = -0.041, p = 0.67; PDW: r = 0.039, p = 0.69; P-LCR: r = -0.009, p = 0.93).

Abstract

Pneumonia is an acute infection of the lungs caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi, which trigger inflammation and weaken the immune system. Early detection is crucial for guiding treatment strategies and reducing the risk of complications. One indicator that can be used for the systemic inflammatory response due to pneumonia infection is the Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR). In addition to NLR, C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels can also be examined to determine the level of infectious disease activity. This study aimed to assess the correlation between NLR values and CRP levels in pneumonia patients. This is a descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design that was conducted on 25 adult and elderly pneumonia patients with comorbidities, selected through consecutive sampling. This research was conducted at Dr. H. A. Rotinsulu Lung Hospital, with the research time being November 6 –18, 2024. The mean neutrophil percentage was 76.9%, lymphocytes 13.4%, NLR 9.12, and CRP level 83 mg/L. Spearman’s correlation test showed a significant positive correlation between NLR and CRP (r=0.415, p=0.039). These results indicate that higher NLR values are associated with increased CRP levels in pneumonia patients.

Abstract

Optimal breast milk production is essential to support the growth and health of infants. One method that can increase breast milk production is through massage stimulation. Oxywich Massage, a combination of oxytocin massage and Woolwich massage, is believed to increase prolactin hormone levels that play a role in breast milk production. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of OM on prolactin hormone levels and breast milk production in normal postpartum mothers. This study used a true experimental design with a randomized pretest-posttest with control group design. The sample consisted of normal postpartum mothers on days 2 to 6 who were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received OM twice a day for five days, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Prolactin hormone levels were measured using the ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) method, while breast milk production was measured with a standard measuring cup after pumping. Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant increase in prolactin hormone levels and breast milk production in the intervention group compared to the control group (p <0.05). Further analysis indicated that the OM intervention had a positive effect after controlling for confounding variables such as breastfeeding frequency, parity, and nutritional intake. Oxywich Massage was proven to be effective in increasing prolactin hormone levels and breast milk production in normal postpartum mothers. This technique can be recommended as a non-pharmacological method in supporting successful breastfeeding.

Abstract

This research is based on the 2018 Riskesdas data, which shows an increase in the number of mental health disorders in adolescents over 15 years of age by 5.3% from 2013. Adolescence is a crucial period for a person's mental health, not all adolescents can manage their stress. In this condition, coping mechanisms are needed that aim to overcome stressors. Spiritual intelligence is one of the factors that impact adolescents in choosing coping efforts. Adolescents who have high spiritual intelligence will be able to choose constructive coping. The study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of spiritual intelligence and coping mechanisms in adolescents. This study is a cross-sectional study with a categorical analytical approach, located at SMAN 6 Bandung. The number of samples is 86 respondents who are selected using proportional stratified random sampling techniques. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire on the level of spiritual intelligence adapted from King & DeCicco's theory, namely SISRI-24 (The Spiritual Intelligence Self Report Inventory), and coping mechanisms adapted from Carver & Cornor's theory, B-COPE (Brief from the Coping Orientation to Problem Experience). Furthermore, the data obtained were tested using the chi-square correlation test. The results of the statistical test on the relationship between spiritual intelligence and coping mechanisms in adolescents at SMA Negeri 6 Bandung obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p = 0.005), meaning that there is a relationship between the level of spiritual intelligence and coping mechanisms in adolescents at SMA Negeri 6 Bandung. There is a need to increase the consistency of the sustainability of existing spiritual guidance programs and enrich the material with more variety as an effort to improve adolescent coping mechanisms.
