Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide assistance in the development of horticultural cultivation in Dusun Mongge 2, Sukadana Village. The activity is a follow-up to the horticulture training conducted in early October 2023 at the Sukadana village office. The assistance is carried out in the form of hands-on gardening practices by local residents, particularly housewives, with the hope of improving household food security and creating home-based business opportunities. Support was provided in the form of horticultural seeds (eggplant, tomato, chili, bitter melon, zucchini, golden mama, etc.), polybags, soil, rice husks, manure, and plant protection nets. The assistance process is conducted periodically and includes technical education on cultivation, management of growing media, and the use of organic waste (livestock manure) as fertilizer. This approach aims to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while improving soil fertility and crop quality. Preliminary results show good plant growth and enthusiastic participation from the residents. It is hoped that this activity will not only strengthen household food security but also serve as an alternative source of income, particularly for housewives without permanent employment.

Abstract

The turbidity of the water used for cultivating gourami fish by the Mina Lestari Fish Farmers group reaches 68 NTU and oxygen solubility is about 2.5 mg/L, while the maximum turbidity permitted for fish farming is 50 NTU and oxygen solubility more than 5 mg/L. Insufficient oxygen can cause the death of fish. To reduce water turbidity can be treating water using electrocoagulation. This community service activity aims to implement aelectrocoagulation process to reduce water turbidity, thereby increasing dissolved oxygen levels and reducing gourami mortality in RW 05, Duren Mekar, Depok. The methods used include site surveys, problem identification, partner coordination, program outreach, water reservoir for electrocoagulation process construction, coagulant producer construction, elctrocoagulation processing and evaluation. The electrocoagulation water reservoir for electrocoagulation process is made from concrete with 3m long, 1.5 m wide, and 1.2 m high. It is equipped with one 4-inch PVC pipe for the inlet and three 3-inch PVC pipes for the outlet. The electrocoagulation process is carried out by flowing 5 liters per minute of coagulant from coagulant storage to the water in reservoir. The electrocoagulation process was able to reduce water turbidity from 68 NTU to 43 NTU and increase dissolved oxygen from 2.5 mg/L to 5.6 mg/L as well as reduce the gourami fish deaths from 20 to 5 from a cultivation of 100 fish for 5 months. The conclusion is that the electrocoagulation process of pond water is able to produce water with turbidity that meets the requirements for cultivating gourami fish.

Abstract

The availability of quality feed is a crucial factor in supporting the productivity of Peranakan Ettawa (PE) goats, which have high potential for both milk and meat production. The main challenges faced by farmers, particularly those in the Kerta Bangkit Livestock Group, Gangga Village, North Lombok, are the limited availability of forage during the dry season and the high cost of commercial feed. To address these challenges, a community service program was implemented, focusing on the utilization of organic waste as an alternative feed source. The program was conducted on June 25, 2025, involving 21 farmers as active participants. The activities included a preliminary survey, participatory socialization, training on semi-moist feed fermentation techniques using organic waste, and field mentoring. The training results showed an improvement in farmers’ knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into nutritionally valuable feed. Field evaluations recorded an average body weight gain of 62–85 g/head/day in PE goats after receiving fermented feed. In addition to reducing production costs, the program also contributed to environmentally friendly waste management. Overall, this community service program successfully enhanced farmers’ independence, supported the sustainability of smallholder livestock farming, and provided positive impacts on both community welfare and the environment. Abstract

ABSTACT The potential yield of rice paddy cultivated by farmers can still be increased if all farmers in Solok City use organic fertilizer according to the recommended rate of 5 tons/ha. Some members of the farmer group still burn rice straw after harvest, resulting in environmental pollution. The purpose of making rice straw compost is to improve and increase soil fertility by adding organic matter, gradually providing nutrients for plants, and reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, thereby saving farmers production costs and supporting sustainable agriculture. Furthermore, straw compost can improve soil health, water retention capacity, and encourage beneficial microbial activity, all of which support food security programs. Implementation methods include outreach, training, technology application, mentoring and evaluation, and program sustainability for partners in the multi-purpose farmer group in Tanah Garam Village, Solok City. Overall, the community service activities have successfully increased understanding and awareness of the use of rice straw for composting in farmers' rice fields in Solok City. The results of this activity are rice straw compost that can be directly used by farmers as organic fertilizer, to increase rice crop production and support food security programs.
