Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between educational theories and the development of the Islamic Education Curriculum in the context of educational reform and innovation in Indonesia. Education is viewed as a conscious and purposeful process to develop the full potential of students, while the curriculum serves as an instrument that bridges educational theory with learning practices in the field. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a library research method sourced from various primary and secondary literature, such as the works of John Dewey, Ki Hajar Dewantara, Paulo Freire, Piaget, and Bruner. The results of the study show that educational theories, including behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and humanism, have contributed significantly to the direction and strategy of Islamic Religious Education curriculum development. These theories help educators understand the characteristics of students, determine learning objectives, and design processes and evaluations oriented towards spiritual, intellectual, and moral development. Thus, the synergy between educational theory and curriculum is key to realizing Islamic Religious Education learning that is relevant, contextual, and adaptive to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping a country's development, but Indonesia's current educational achievements have not yet reached an optimal level. As an investment in human resources, education, if managed properly, can have a significant impact on improving the welfare of society. However, issues related to education in Indonesia are very complex. The government has taken various steps to improve the quality of education and continues to strive to achieve this. Eight standards from the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP) have been used as the main reference in the implementation of education in Indonesia. Various policies have been made by adopting the contents of these standards. However, there are still many challenges that must be faced, such as the low quality of education that currently exists. The research approach used is library research, which is used to explore national education standards, their scope, and implementation strategies. This research is sourced from various references such as books, journals, articles, and data needed in this research.  The objective is to gain an in-depth understanding of national education standardization. The results of this study indicate that content standards, learning processes, graduate competencies, education and teaching staff, facilities and infrastructure, and education management are integral parts of the National Education Standards (SNP). However, it is known that there are various obstacles that hinder their achievement. The main problems include inconsistencies in graduate competency standards, a lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure, limitations in the quality of education and teaching staff, and suboptimal education management in accordance with established standards.

Abstract

The implementation of the curriculum at the primary and secondary education levels, namely Elementary School, Junior High School, and Senior High School, has undergone significant transformation through the application of the Freedom of Learning program and the Deep Learning approach. The Freedom of Learning program encourages flexibility in learning, teacher creativity, and student independence in the learning process, while the Deep Learning approach emphasizes in-depth mastery of concepts, critical thinking skills, and the ability to solve complex problems. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the curriculum at various levels of education and evaluate the effectiveness of applying both approaches in improving the quality of learning. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research. Qualitative descriptive is a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words about people and observable behaviors to discover truths that are acceptable to human reason. The data collection technique used is a literature study, where data is obtained from books and previous research journals relevant to the topic being discussed. The results of the study show that the implementation of Freedom of Learning provides space for innovation in teaching methods and increases student motivation to learn, while the Deep Learning approach is able to improve students' overall understanding of concepts as well as their analytical and synthesis skills. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating both approaches to create relevant, adaptive, and quality learning in the modern era of education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the epistemological shift from the classical paradigm to digital scholarship as a form of contemporary scientific construction. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach based on the analysis of the philosophy of science and critical literature review, this study traces the changes in the concepts of truth, authority, and scientific validity resulting from the digitization of knowledge practices. Classical epistemology, rooted in rationality, empiricism, and objectivity, is now shifting towards an open knowledge system that emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and interdisciplinary connectivity. The results of the analysis show that digital infrastructure, algorithms, and big data form a new regime of truth, in which scientific validity is determined through global network participation, not solely by hierarchical verification by academic institutions. Through a synthesis of the ideas of Kuhn, Foucault, Latour, Gibbons, and Borgman, this study formulates the concept of reflexive digital epistemology, which is a scientific model that is socially and technologically aware, collaborative, open, and ethical. This study emphasizes the importance of a new scientific evaluation paradigm based on openness, epistemic justice, and digital responsibility, while highlighting the risks of algorithmic bias, data coloniality, and access inequality in the evolving practice of global digital science.

Abstract

The socio-ecological crisis in the modern era has become a global challenge that threatens the sustainability of human life, ranging from environmental damage, ecological poverty, to social inequality as a result of uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Education in providing strategic solutions to overcome this crisis through strengthening spiritual values, ecological ethics, and sustainability character. The research uses a qualitative method with a content analysis approach to classical Islamic literature, contemporary research results, and national education policies related to the environment. The results show that Islamic education has significant potential in building ecological awareness based on tauhid, amanah, and rahmatan lil 'alamin, integrating eco-theological values into the curriculum, and encouraging action-oriented educational practices through the habit of environmentally friendly behavior. The implications of the research emphasize the need to reorient the Islamic Religious Education curriculum, strengthen ecological pedagogy, and foster collaboration among educational institutions to create a generation of Muslims who play an active role in mitigating the socio-ecological crisis in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Civic education plays a strategic role in shaping students' character, especially in terms of tolerance as a manifestation of diversity values since elementary school. The challenges of social diversity, the spread of digital information that often gives rise to stereotypes, and the tendency for intolerant attitudes to emerge at an early age make it necessary to systematically internalize tolerance education through the learning process at school. This study aims to describe how students' attitudes of tolerance are strengthened through diversity-based Civic Education in Islamic Elementary Schools. The research used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation of learning activities, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning tools. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with validation through triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of the study show that teachers integrate diversity values through group discussions, inspirational stories of national figures, collaborative games, and social habits in classroom interactions. Students' tolerance attitudes are demonstrated through behaviors such as respecting opinions, accepting differences, and the ability to work together in heterogeneous groups. However, time constraints and variations in methods pose obstacles to implementation. This study concludes that tolerance can be strengthened optimally if citizenship education is designed to be experience-based, collaborative, and contextual to students' lives.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) model in Islamic Religious Education at SMK Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung and evaluate its impact on students' critical thinking skills and learning independence. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, using in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis as data collection methods. The study found that the application of IBL significantly enhanced students’ critical thinking abilities and their capacity for independent learning. Teachers, in particular, reported increased student engagement in discussions and critical analysis of religious texts, such as tafsir and fiqh, through active exploration and collaborative learning. Students demonstrated a marked improvement in their analytical, evaluative, and synthetic thinking skills, as well as an increased independence in seeking learning resources and managing their study time. However, challenges related to time management and resource limitations were identified, which affected the full implementation of IBL. This study highlights the effectiveness of IBL in fostering critical thinking and independence in religious education and offers recommendations for its broader implementation in vocational schools. Future research should address the limitations of the current study by exploring the impact of IBL in diverse educational settings and incorporating more objective measures of critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of Muslim identity in Indonesian Islam by analyzing the historical and socioreligious dynamics between traditionalist and modernist Islamic orientations. The research employs a qualitative method with content analysis, drawing on classical and contemporary scholarly works, historical documents, and religious discourses related to Islamic movements in Indonesia. Data were analyzed through thematic and discourse analysis to identify patterns of religious authority, interpretation, and social practice. The findings indicate that traditionalist Islam in Indonesia is characterized by strong adherence to local traditions, Sufistic practices, Shafi‘i jurisprudence, and reliance on religious authority figures, particularly within rural communities. In contrast, modernist Islam emphasizes rational interpretation, scriptural purification (tajdid), rejection of blind taqlid, and the integration of Islamic values with modern education, social institutions, and organizational activism, as represented by movements such as Muhammadiyah, Persis, and Al-Irsyad. These orientations produce distinct yet interacting forms of Muslim identity shaped by historical experiences of colonialism, modernization, and global Islamic reformism. This study implies that the coexistence and contestation between traditionalist and modernist Islam constitute a foundational element of Indonesian Muslim identity. Understanding this dynamic contributes to the discourse on religious moderation, social transformation, and the sociology of Islam in plural societies.

Abstract

This study analyzes Muhammadiyah’s contributions to educational, social, cultural, and political development in Indonesia through the lens of the Nusantara–Middle Eastern ulama network. Using a qualitative historical-analytical approach, the research examines the intellectual trajectories and transregional scholarly connections of three influential Indonesian Muslim figures: Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (Buya Hamka), Wahid Hasyim, and Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur). The findings reveal that sustained engagement with Middle Eastern centers of Islamic learning such as Mecca, Medina, Cairo, and Baghdad played a significant role in shaping diverse Islamic orientations in Indonesia, ranging from reformist Muhammadiyah thought to traditionalist and neo-modernist perspectives within Nahdlatul Ulama. Buya Hamka’s modernist outlook contributed to educational reform and socio-cultural transformation through Muhammadiyah. Wahid Hasyim advanced the modernization of pesantren education and strengthened Islamic educational institutions at the state level. Abdurrahman Wahid developed a progressive and pluralistic Islamic vision that reinforced the role of ulama in Indonesia’s socio-political landscape. This study demonstrates that the Nusantara–Middle Eastern ulama network served as a vital conduit for intellectual transmission, enabling Muhammadiyah and related Islamic movements to contribute dynamically to Indonesia’s religious, social, and political development.
