Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries rich in flora and fauna that are beneficial to humans, one of which is propolis in bees. Pinocembrin, acacetin, chrysin, rutin, catechin are types of flavonoids contained in propolis that are beneficial as antimicrobials, antifungals, and antioxidants. This research aims to formulate propolis extract into solid soap preparations. The research conducted is an experimental study. Data processing in this study was presented in the form of observation tables, including organoleptic observations, pH measurements, foam stability tests, and soap hardness tests. Each test is conducted three times, all averaged and their standard deviations calculated, then analyzed using StatView. The yield of propolis extract through the maceration extraction method with 96% ethanol at a 1:10 ratio as the solvent. The variations in the concentration of propolis extract used are 0.1% (F1); 0.3% (F2); and 0.5%. (F3). The stages of this research include the formulation of soap using palm oil, olive oil, coconut oil, sodium hydroxide, aquades with the addition of oleum rosae as a fragrance. The soap is evaluated in terms of organoleptic properties, pH, foam stability, and hardness. The research results show that the solid soap with propolis extract has a dense consistency with a pale yellowish-white to brownish-white color, and a characteristic rose scent. The produced soap has a pH that is safe for use on the skin, which is 10.61-10.75. This soap also has good foam stability, ranging from 88-95%, and a good soap hardness value of around 5 kg.

Abstract

Antioxidants can be given to the skin through cosmetics such as face toners. One source of antioxidants is obtained through the fermentation of butterfly pea flower kombucha (Clitoria ternatea L.), which has been proven to have better antioxidant activity than butterfly pea flower extract alone. This study aimed to determine the metabolite compounds in butterfly pea flower kombucha and create a facial toner formulation with good antioxidant activity. The butterfly pea flower kombucha was fermented for 6 days at room temperature. Facial toners were made with concentrations of 5%, 7,5% and 10%. Evaluation of the face toner includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, and viscosity tests. The antioxidant activity test used the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrilhydrazil) method, with vitamin C as a positive control. The results showed that there were alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoid compounds in butterfly pea flower kombucha. Face toners with concentrations of 5%, 7.5%, and 10% could be prepared and met all evaluations (organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, and viscosity). Antioxidant test results on formula 1 IC50 50,21±SD 0,01 (strong), formula 2 IC50 44,32±SD 0,02 (very strong) and formula 3 IC50 38,62±SD 0,03 (very strong). The higher the concentration of butterfly pea flower kombucha, the higher the antioxidant activity. Butterfly pea flower kombucha (Clitoria ternatea L.) which is formulated as a face toner preparation has strong to very strong antioxidants, and the increasing concentration of active ingredients had an effect on antioxidant activity.  Keywords: face toner, butterfly pea flower kombucha, DPPH method, antioxidant activity

Abstract

Honey is a substrate that has widely used by the people of Indonesia for treatment, one of which is used to treat acne. Honey has antimicrobial inhibitory power, antimicrobial ability is also found in other natural ingredients, one of it is Single Garlic (Allium sativum L.). Community trend towards the two natural ingredients, one of which is by combining Honey and Single Garlic (Allium sativum L.) using the method of soaking Single Garlic (Allium sativum L.) in Honey. The purpose of the study is to determine the inhibitory power of honey bacteria from soaking / fermentation against propionibacterium acnes bacteria.Testing use the disc paper diffusion method with a sample of fermented Honey and a single Garlic (Allium sativum L.) against the length of honey fermentation time, positive control (Clindamycin 300 mg), and negative control (aquadest). Sample Honey and Garlic Sample (Allium sativum L.) were fermented length time at weeks 1,2,3 and 4. The results showed that the length of time honey fermentation can increase the inhibitory power of the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria by the presence of clear zones around the disc paper. The diameters of honey fermentation in weeks 1,2,3 and 4 are 0.416 mm, 0.65 mm, 0.775 mm and 1.8 mm. The conclusion that the length of fermentation time of Honey and Single Garlic (Allium sativum L.) will increase in diameter in the clear zone of its inhibitory power known in the fourth week to have a maximum inhibitory power of 1.8 mm.
