Abstract

Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) is a growth hormone mediator that acts as a growth-promoting factor in the growth process and is also an indicator of the adaptive immune system. Children who experience stunting will experience obstacles to growth and cognitive and motor development, affecting their productivity as adults. This research aims to determine IGF-1 levels and their relationship with stunted children's nutritional status. The research method used was observational, with a cross-sectional research design. The population of stunted children in the Tegalwangi locus area, Cirebon Regency, a sample of children aged 24-60 months who met the inclusion criteria of not being disabled and not being sick, was 50 children. The research began with parents filling in informed consent. Continue to fill in data on date of birth, measure height and weight, take @1ml of the child's blood, and analyze IGF-1 using the ELISA method. The research results were that the average IGF-1 level for men was 16,812 ± 5,164 ng/ml and for women 13,810 ± 5,111 ng/ml. Average IGF-1 levels aged 24-36 months were 14,777 ± 4,742 ng/ml, 36–48 months 17,050 ± 4,280 ng/ml, and 48–60 months 15,214 ± 6,248 ng/ml. Data analysis using the Pearson correlation test obtained a value of p=0.871 based on age, p=0.047 based on gender, p=0.643 based on Height for age, and p=0.245 based on Weight for age (95% CI). The conclusion is that there is a relationship between the age of a stunted child and IGF-1 levels, and there is no relationship with nutritional status. All stunted children have IGF-1 values below the standard value for normal children based on the literature, namely ≥ 28.54 ng/ml.

Abstract

Background: The food consumed by children greatly affects how they will live in the future. The amount of nutrition that enters a child's body affects their health and intelligence. Macronutrients, vitamins and minerals are vital components in the body for the processes of growth and development, endurance, and other important functions. Low nutritional intake in children will cause them to experience growth failure, resulting in stunting. Objectives: This study was to compare the intake of macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate), vitamins (A, E, B1, B2, B6, C, folate), and minerals (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc) between stunted and non-stunted childrenMaterials and Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. The population of the study was toddlers living in the Tegalwangi area, a sample of 100 children, ages 2 to 5, who were willing to sign a consent form as research subjects was split into 50 stunting and 50 non-stunting children. The time for the study began in January-May 2023. Data was collected using the 3x24 hour nutritional recall questionnaire method, followed by converting nutritional intake through the Nutrisurvey softwareResults: Nutritional intake for stunted children, shows that there are 12 intake criteria below the nutritional adequacy rate, while 5 intake criteria meet the standard. While for children who are not stunted, 12 criteria meet and 5 criteria do not meet the nutritional adequacy standard. Conclusion: Analysis of differences in the intake of the two groups found that there were no significant differences in the intake of macronutrients (carbohydrates), vitamins (E, B2) and minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphorum) with p>0.05, and significant differences in the intake of macronutrients (protein, fat). vitamins (A, B1, B6, C, folate), and minerals (magnesium, iron, zinc) with p<0.05.

Abstract

Introduction: The imbalance between the production of free radicals and the antioxidant defense system in the body will cause the body to experience oxidative stress. This can be caused by chronic malnutrition. In children, this condition causes growth and development failure called stunting. Honey, temulawak and black cumin are herbs with high antioxidant content, formulated in one preparation to test its effectiveness. The purpose of the study was to determine specific descriptions experienced by stunted children and to test the antioxidant effectiveness of preparation temulawak-black cumin honey. Methods: The research method used was quasi-experimental, pre-post design, the research time starts from January-May 2023. The population of Stunting children in the Tegalwangi locus area, Cirebon Regency, the selected samples or subjects are children aged 24-60 months who meet the inclusion criteria. The subjects were divided into 2 groups, namely the treatment group that received the test preparation for 4 months and the control group without the provision of the test preparation. Blood sampling was carried out simultaneously or simultaneously at the village hall with the help of trained analysts. The antioxidant parameters superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and free radical parameters Nitric oxide and malondialdehyde. The data obtained will be analysed using an independent t-test. Results: The results of the study on 50 stunted children showed low levels of Superoxide Dismutase, Catalase, Glutathione peroxidase, and free radical parameters Nitric oxide and Malondialdehyde were obtained high. This means that stunted children experience oxidative stress. There was significant antioxidant effectiveness with increased levels of SOD and Catalase in the treatment group (P<0.05), a decrease in NO and MDA in the treatment group (P<0.05) compared to the control group. Conclusion: Temulawak-black cumin honey preparation has activity to reduce oxidative stress in stunted children in Cirebon.

Abstract

Infectious diseases are one of the health problems faced by developing countries such as Indonesia. Various methods are used to treat skin infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, one of which is traditionally using plants, namely katang-katang leaves which have active compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins as antibacterials. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the gel preparation of katang-katang leaf extract (Ipomea pes-caprae) to determine the concentration that has the greatest antibacterial activity and to determine the physical properties. Gel preparations were made with concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25%. The test method was carried out using the in vitro disc diffusion method and physical properties tests were carried out which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests and viscosity tests. Data analysis was carried out using normality tests, homogeneity tests, anova and post hoc test. The results of research testing the antibacterial activity of katang-katang leaf extract gel at a concentration of 15% was 3.27 mm, 20% was 4.97%, 25% was 5.97 mm, K+ was 10.97 mm and K- was 0 mm. Katang-katang leaf extract gel has antbacterial activity that is not equivalent to the positive control, katang-katang leaf extract gel does not meet the preparation evaluation requirements and is unstable during storage. From these results it can be concluded that the katang-katang leaf extract gel has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and the katang-katang leaf extract gel does meet the preparation evaluation requirements and is unstable during storage.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks second globally in tuberculosis (TB) cases, with West Java identified as a high-burden TB region. Community pharmacists, often the first point of patient contact, have the potential to support TB monitoring. However, their role remains underutilized and understudied. This study aimed to evaluate community pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) in monitoring TB medication, and to examine the relationships among these variables and respondent characteristics. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 419 pharmacists across 27 districts and cities in West Java Province. Data were collected via a validated online questionnaire comprising KAP domains. Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation, and Chi-Square tests were used to analyze relationships between KAP scores and demographic/professional characteristics. Community pharmacists demonstrated moderate knowledge in TB treatment (14.94 ± 1.99), generally have a positive attitude towards the importance of their role and ability to monitor use of TB drug (21.6 ± 3.3). In practice, community pharmacists are low in reporting, monitoring, and providing assistance related to TB patients (10.7 ± 5.2). Significant but low correlations were observed between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.110, p = 0.024), knowledge and practice (r = 0.116, p = 0.018), and attitude and practice (r = 0.343, p < 0.001). Practice scores were significantly associated with access to patient consultation services (p < 0.001), while knowledge was linked to pharmacy location (p = 0.032), and attitude to gender (p = 0.026). Although community pharmacists in West Java show sufficient knowledge and positive attitudes, their involvement in TB monitoring practices remains limited. Targeted education and policy interventions are essential for their engagement in national TB control efforts.
