Abstract

This study explores the role of personalized sustainability education (PSE) in promoting learner engagement (LE) and environmental awareness (EA) among elementary school students in Indonesia. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 114 fifth-grade students across four provinces through validated instruments. Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to examine the hypothesized relationships. The results show that PSE has a significant positive effect on both LE and EA, while LE also positively influences EA. Furthermore, PSE mediates the relationship between LE and EA, suggesting that personalization strengthens the translation of engagement into awareness. By making learning experiences more meaningful and contextually relevant, PSE enhances students’ understanding and commitment to sustainability practices. Theoretically, this study advances research on personalized learning and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Practically, it highlights the potential of digital personalization strategies to increase engagement, foster awareness, and cultivate pro-environmental behaviors from an early age.

Abstract

Movable Book Local Wisdom-Based as Teaching Material to Increase Nationalism in the 21st Century. Objectives: This research investigates the effectiveness of movable book local wisdom based as a teaching material in improving students’ nationalism. Methods: Quasi-experiment was used with a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study is the fourth-grade primary students. The data were measured using n-gain and independent t-test. Findings: The result shows that the n-gain of students’ nationalism in the experimental classes 1 and 2 were higher than the control class, such as 0.40, 0.39, and 0.29, with a moderate category for experimental classes and a low category for control class. Moreover, t-test results also showed that the value (p) was 0.000, which ≤ 0.05, so it significantly differences in students’ nationalism between experimental and control classes. Conclusion: Therefore, it can conclude that the movable book local wisdom-based teaching material can improve fourth-grade elementary students' nationalism character effectively. Keywords: 21st century, nationalism, local wisdom, teaching material, movable book.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202205

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the development of zero waste research over a decade, namely from 2013 and 2022. This study used bibliometric analysis with samples of 413 documents from the Scopus database. The research focuses include: 1) the development of publications and citations; 2) publication status based on influential authors and their countries; 3) dissemination of collaboration among researchers; 4) relevant keywords are used and the pattern of emergence from previous research. The research results show a significant impact in zero waste research studies. Overall, this research serves as a basis for developing new scientific questions that can contribute to the development of further research

Abstract

Environmental literacy is a critical competency for elementary students, yet many pedagogical approaches lack structured frameworks connecting environmental issues to real-world decision-making. This study aimed to enhance students' environmental understanding through a rational decision-making learning model supported by interactive digital multimodal teaching materials based on socioscientific issues (SSI). A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed with 75 fifth-grade students in Cimahi City, West Java, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated environmental understanding test that measured knowledge of causes, impacts, and solutions to environmental problems, and were then analyzed using Wilcoxon tests. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in students' environmental understanding. The model enabled students to think systematically by connecting causes, consequences, and solutions to environmental problems, while promoting critical reasoning and active engagement in learning. These findings suggest that integrating decision-making frameworks with multimodal SSI materials can effectively support environmental literacy in primary education. Future studies should apply this model across broader populations and examine its long-term impact on students' environmental attitudes and behavior. This study is limited to fifth-grade students in a single city; thus, its generalizability requires further investigation.
