Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are one of the most common occupational health problems experienced by online motorcycle taxi drivers, primarily due to repetitive physical activity, non-ergonomic working positions, and high work pressure. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of MSDs among online motorcycle taxi drivers in the Grab Simpang Negara (GSN) Community, Medan Area District. The research used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach involving 77 respondents. The instruments used were the Nordic Body Map questionnaire to assess MSDs complaints and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) questionnaire to evaluate work-related stress levels. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods (Chi-square test), and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The results showed that 59.7% of respondents experienced symptoms of MSDs. There was a significant relationship between age, length of employment, and work stress level with the incidence of MSDs (p ≤ 0.05), with work stress being the dominant factor. These findings highlight the importance of preventive efforts through improved working conditions and integrated stress management for online motorcycle taxi drivers.

Abstract

Inadequate lighting and long working hours are common occupational health issues faced by tailors in Tanjung Mulia Hilir Village, Medan City. These unfavorable conditions may contribute to eye fatigue, reduced concentration, decreased productivity, and a higher risk of sewing errors. Prolonged work duration without adequate rest also increases the risk of health complaints such as headaches, back pain, and vision problems. This study aimed to examine the relationship between work duration, work experience, and lighting intensity on the incidence of eye fatigue among tailors. The study employed a quantitative analytic method with a cross-sectional design, involving 60 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and direct measurements of lighting levels. The results showed that 19 respondents (31.7%) had adequate lighting, while 41 (68.3%) worked under inadequate lighting conditions. A total of 16 respondents (26.7%) experienced eye fatigue. Bivariate analysis revealed a p-value of 0.00, indicating a significant relationship between work duration and lighting intensity with eye fatigue. It is recommended that workplace lighting conditions and working hours be improved to reduce the risk of visual fatigue.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal pain is a common work-related ailment in Indonesia. Although not fatal, it can significantly reduce worker productivity. Stretching exercises are often used to alleviate this pain. Pre-work stretching and warm-up exercises may reduce the risk of musculoskeletal pain and fatigue, improve muscle balance and posture, and promote muscle relaxation by lengthening tense muscles, thus increasing comfort during work. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of stretching in reducing musculoskeletal pain among workers at the Opak Suli Factory in Sukaraya Bakti Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency. The experimental study employed a pre-test and post-test control group design. All 38 workers at the Opak Suli Factory in Sukaraya Bakti Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, were included using total sampling and divided into an intervention group and a control group, each consisting of 19 workers. The intervention group showed a statistically significant reduction in musculoskeletal pain (p < 0.001), indicating that stretching was effective. In contrast, the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.083). In conclusion, stretching is an effective method for reducing musculoskeletal pain among the workers in this study.

Abstract

Anemia is a common complication affecting approximately 30% of pregnant women worldwide. Anemia is defined as a hemoglobin level of less than 11 grams per deciliter (g/dL) in non-pregnant women and less than 10.5 g/dL in pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of anemia in pregnant women. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 75 samples from 306 pregnant women who underwent ANC at the Bhayangkara Medan Hospital between January and June 2022. The risk factors studied included parity, pregnancy spacing, diet, maternal knowledge, and family support. Data regarding the risk factors were collected using questionnaires and medical records. Frequency distribution calculation and the chi-squared test were used for data analysis. The results showed that 30.7% of pregnant women experienced anemia. Chi-square test results showed that pregnancy spacing (0.001), diet (0.002), maternal knowledge (0.039), and family support were risk factors for anemia in pregnant women. Parity alone was not associated with anemia (0.306). The increased risk of anemia during pregnancy is influenced by short pregnancy spacing, poor diet, lack of maternal knowledge, and lack of family support.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of healthcare service quality on patient satisfaction among hypertensive outpatients at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital. Employing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, data were collected from 79 patients using a questionnaire assessing five service quality dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance) and overall patient satisfaction. Bivariate analysis, utilizing the chi-square test, was conducted to examine relationships between service quality dimensions and patient satisfaction. Results indicated generally positive perceptions of service quality dimensions, with tangibles, reliability, and assurance rated highly. However, empathy and responsiveness showed higher dissatisfaction rates. Notably, only assurance demonstrated a statistically significant association with patient satisfaction (p=0.002), where patients perceiving "Good" assurance were more likely to report satisfaction. Overall patient satisfaction was mixed, with 54.43% reporting satisfaction and 45.57% reporting dissatisfaction. The study highlights the critical role of staff competence and patient confidence (assurance) in driving satisfaction. Recommendations include targeted interventions to improve empathy and responsiveness, continuous monitoring of all service quality dimensions, and further investigation into potential underlying factors affecting overall satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: High-quality healthcare is vital for effective TB management. Patient satisfaction reflects service quality and influences treatment adherence. This study investigates the characteristics and satisfaction levels of pulmonary TB outpatients at Puskesmas Polonia, Medan, a high-burden facility. Aims: To describe the demographic characteristics of TB patients and analyze their satisfaction across various healthcare service dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and operational satisfaction). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025, involving 82 pulmonary TB outpatients selected via purposive sampling. Data on patient characteristics and satisfaction (overall and by dimension, using a dichotomous scale) were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using univariate statistics. Results: The majority of the 82 TB patients were male (63.4%), with the largest age groups being 21-30 and 31-40 years (24.4% each). Most had upper secondary education (32.9%). Overall, 76.83% of patients reported satisfaction. Satisfaction levels varied across dimensions: assurance (83.0%) and reliability (79.0%) were highest, while operational satisfaction (67.0%) and responsiveness (71.0%) were lower. Conclusion: While overall satisfaction was high, specific service dimensions, particularly operational processes and responsiveness, require attention to enhance the patient experience for TB patients at Puskesmas Polonia. These findings can inform targeted interventions to improve service quality and support TB control efforts.

Abstract

Food safety is a crucial aspect of public health, aiming to prevent diseases resulting from the consumption of contaminated food or beverages. This study employed a quantitative research design with an analytical observational approach. The analytical observational method was used to determine the relationship between two independent variables—kitchen utensils and food handler hygiene—and the dependent variable, the microbial count in jumbo iced tea beverages sold along Ayahanda Street, Medan. The quantitative approach was chosen for its ability to measure data numerically and statistically analyze the relationships among variables. Data collection was conducted through direct observation using standardized assessment sheets. The kitchen utensil variable included evaluation of the cleanliness of plastic cups, straws, cool boxes, and cup sealer machines; washing procedures; equipment storage; cleaning methods for stainless steel, glass, and food-grade plastic tools; as well as cleaning frequency. The food handler hygiene variable was assessed based on hand hygiene before and after beverage preparation, nail cleanliness, cleanliness of clothing and aprons during work, and the use of personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves. Microbiological testing involved determining the Total Plate Count (TPC) and comparing the results with established safety standards. Observational and laboratory data were processed and analyzed statistically using the Chi-Square test with a 5% significance level (α = 0.05) to evaluate the effect of kitchen utensil conditions and food handler hygiene on microbial counts. The results showed that the majority of jumbo iced tea samples contained microbial levels within safe limits. Of the 30 samples tested, only 4 samples (13.3%) contained detectable microbes, while 26 samples (86.7%) showed no microbial growth based on the Total Plate Count method. There was no significant association between kitchen utensil cleanliness and microbial counts in jumbo iced tea sold on Ayahanda Street, Medan (p-value = 0.507). However, a significant relationship was found between food handler hygiene and microbial counts in the same products (p-value = 0.024).
