Abstract

This study aims to explore the comprehensive meaning and symbolism of the qasidah "Ya Badrotim" in Maulid Ad-Diba' by Shaykh Abdurrahman Ad-Diba'i. It employs Michael Riffaterre's semiotic theory as an analytical framework, particularly focusing on the concepts of matrix, model, and variants to uncover deeper layers of meaning. This research is motivated by the limited scholarly attention given to specific qasidahs within Maulid Ad-Diba'i, and thus seeks to fill this gap. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a semiotic approach, the study reveals that the meaning embedded in the qasidah "Ya Badrotim" extends beyond literal description and reflects a complex semiotic structure. The analysis shows that the primary matrix represents the concept of the perfection of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which is articulated through various symbolic models and variants, such as light, the full moon, and divine guidance. Additionally, the hypogram analysis demonstrates an intertextual relationship between this qasidah and earlier qasidahs within Maulid Ad-Diba'i. These findings confirm that Riffaterre's semiotic approach is effective in uncovering deeper meanings in qasidah texts. This study enriches Arabic literary semiotics and offers a deeper understanding of meaning in religious qasidah literature.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Arabic language environment (bi’ah lughawiyyah) in building the self-confidence of female students at Daarul Ukhuwwah Islamic Boarding School, Malang. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, as it seeks to provide an in-depth description of how the Arabic language environment is implemented in a modern Islamic boarding school. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of bi’ah lughawiyyah is carried out systematically through mandatory language policies, daily communication habituation, and structured programs such as muhadatsah, muhadharah, and other language activities integrated into the daily life of the boarding school. This language environment functions not only as a means of improving linguistic competence but also as a medium for developing affective aspects, particularly students’ self-confidence. This is evidenced by increased speaking courage, the ability to express ideas, and a reduction in language anxiety. However, the effectiveness of the language environment is influenced by internal factors such as students’ linguistic backgrounds and psychological conditions, as well as external factors such as institutional support and peer social dynamics. Therefore, the success of bi’ah lughawiyyah is determined not only by the intensity of language use but also by the quality of a supportive and adaptive environment in managing students’ psychological aspects. Keywords: Bi’ah Lughawiyyah, self-confidence, Arabic language, Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Arabic language-teaching management in developing students’ speaking skills at Al-Hikmah Islamic Institute in Batu, East Java. The study focuses on the importance of educational management in organising and improving the quality of learning, especially in teaching Arabic, the language of the Qur’an and a key to understanding Islamic sciences. The researcher observed that some students struggle to speak Arabic fluently, underscoring the need for effective management through proper planning, systematic implementation, and continuous evaluation. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with the school principal, Arabic teachers, and students, and the analysis of relevant educational documents. The data were analysed using an interactive model involving data organisation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that Arabic teaching management at the institute is well-organised, from setting clear objectives and preparing instructional materials and media to implementing interactive teaching methods that encourage dialogue and practice, followed by continuous assessment. This integrated management approach has significantly improved students’ speaking ability, confidence, and motivation to learn Arabic.

Abstract

This study investigates the causal impact of language environment components specifically Visual Exposure Intensity and Interactive Exposure Intensity on the sociolinguistic competence of students at TMI (Tarbiyatul Mu'allimien al-Islamiyah) Al-Amien Prenduan Islamic Boarding School. Utilizing a quantitative Ex-Post Facto design with Path Analysis on 310 respondents, the research deconstructs the "language environment" into visual constructs (linguistic landscape) and interactive constructs (social pressure). The findings reveal a fundamental asymmetry: Visual Exposure Intensity showed no significant effect on sociolinguistic competence (p > 0.05), challenging the assumed efficacy of passive linguistic landscapes. Conversely, Interactive Exposure Intensity emerged as a significant determinant (p < 0.05), confirming that sociolinguistic nuances are acquired through negotiation of meaning and social friction rather than passive observation. However, the low determination coefficient (R² = 9.2%) suggests that unmeasured internal factors (such as motivation and aptitude) play a dominant role alongside environmental factors. The study concludes that effective language environment engineering must prioritize active social interaction over static visual displays.
