Abstract

This study examines the strengthening of local wisdom through a participatory approach to environmental conservation in the coastal community of Nii Tanasa Village. Coastal communities play a key role in ecosystem management, where customary values and traditional practices serve as strong guidelines for pro-environmental behavior. The participatory approach actively engages the community in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of conservation activities, such as mangrove planting, waste management, and fishing monitoring. Survey results indicate a high level of participation, particularly in beach cleanup (78%) and mangrove rehabilitation (68%), as well as a collective awareness supported by adherence to customary rules (72%). Qualitative analysis reveals that collaboration between traditional leaders, fishing groups, and the government strengthens sustainable and inclusive conservation mechanisms. Environmental education strengthens the integration of cultural values into conservation practices, increasing collective awareness and behavior. This approach not only maintains the balance of the coastal ecosystem but also improves socio-economic well-being through ecotourism opportunities and natural resource resilience. The findings confirm that the synergy of local wisdom and active participation is an effective strategy for adaptive and sustainable environmental conservation, while simultaneously strengthening the social capital of coastal communities.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of digital social campaigns through online media in increasing environmental awareness and behavior among millennials. Using a mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative), the study evaluates the relationship between content type, frequency of interaction, and platform selection with audience engagement and understanding of environmental issues. The results indicate that creative and interactive content, such as short videos, infographics, and educational quizzes, can motivate millennials to actively participate in campaigns and adopt environmentally friendly behaviors. Popular social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp have proven effective in reaching and increasing audience engagement, with TikTok ranking highest in terms of engagement. Digital social campaigns not only disseminate information but also foster two-way communication that strengthens the internalization of environmental values and supports sustainable attitudinal change. A structured communication strategy, prioritizing creative content and utilizing modern technology, is key to success in achieving sustainability goals. This study emphasizes the importance of optimal digital campaigns as innovative educational tools to mobilize millennial participation in environmental preservation.

Abstract

This article examines deterrence methods in current Chinese military parades, concentrating on their use as power shows, political symbols, and international diplomacy. Military parades are viewed not just as official ceremonies, but as an essential component of defense strategy and political communication. By displaying current defense equipment like as hypersonic missiles, air defense systems, and advanced military technology, China presents a convincing message of military capacity to both domestic and international audiences. This represents two types of deterrence: punishment (the danger of damaging retaliation) and denial (the ability to prevent an opponent's attack). In addition to their outward function, military parades have a significant domestic political component. Parades promote the legitimacy of Xi Jinping's leadership and the Chinese Communist Party by telling a story of national awakening (the China Dream), instilling collective pride and strengthening social solidarity. Internationally, parades elicit varied reactions: Western countries are cautious and see them as an indication of military expansion, whereas Global South countries see them as a symbol of the development of non-Western powers. This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical methodology, with a literature review as the data gathering method. According to the research findings, Chinese military parades serve three purposes: strategic deterrent, a domestic political symbol, and a symbolic diplomatic weapon. These findings suggest that military parades play an important role in comprehending modern defense policy, political legitimacy, and regional and global security dynamics.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative case study examining the representation of disability in digital media, focusing on the inaugural episode of Clash of Mutants on YouTube. Grounded in Communication Studies and Representation Theory, as well as the social model of disability, this study analyzes how meaning is constructed through dark comedy. It hypothesizes that the use of the label mutants within dark comedy creates ambivalent meanings, simultaneously enabling inclusive representation while reinforcing stigma. This research applies a qualitative case study design. The data consist of one episode analyzed through qualitative content analysis of visual and narrative elements, supported by 100 audience comments explored using sentiment analysis. The main outcomes include forms of representation, narrative framing, and audience reception toward inclusive representation in digital communication. The findings reveal ambivalence: persons with disabilities are presented as active subjects in digital entertainment yet framed through stereotypes of incapacity. The contrast between formal competition aesthetics and disabled bodies opens space for inclusive representation while reproducing stigma through dark comedy. Audience reception is dominated by hegemonic-dominant readings, with viewers emphasizing entertainment over critical reflection, thereby normalizing the mutants label. These findings align with prior studies on humor’s dual role as critique and marginalization. In conclusion, this case study highlights the complexity of dark comedy in shaping inclusive representation. Theoretically, it integrates representation, humor, and reception studies; practically, it informs more ethical and participatory content strategies.
