Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country with a tropical climate so it has a large forest area. High rainfall and sufficient solar irradiation make the diversity of living things both flora and fauna very high. This study aims to identify and determine the level of diversity of forestry plants in the forest area of Manado State University, North Sulawesi. This research will be carried out in April - May 2023 in the forest area of Manado State University, North Sulawesi. Sampling in this study was carried out using the Purposive Sampling (Judgmental Sampling) technique with 9 plots in 3 observation stations. The results of the study found that in all sampling plots, there were 17 individuals of forestry plants with 9 species. The highest Important Value Index (IVI) belongs to the species Petrocarpus indicus with an IVI of 61%. The Shannon Winner diversity index H = 2.07 was found to be in the medium category.

Abstract

Urban farming, an agricultural concept utilizing limited space. This application is fititng for urban and suburban scapes with limited agricultural fields like Lotta village, located in the suburbans of Manado city. Sentrum Agraris Lotta (SAL), a non profit organization that functions as the societies eduction hub in organic agricultur, SAL has facilitated this aquaponic implementation as an empowerment and mentoring activity for the PKK and Local Government of Lotta Village, Pineleng District of Minahasa Regency. Integrating vegetable farming with fish farming, this activity serves as a vesel for the KKN MBKM students progam. This activity elevated social empowerments by practical skills impartment to the district and partnering organizations, while disseminating the society on food security and household economy. Also a media for students in implementing science and social engagement in an off-campus practical activity as one of the parameter of the main higher education performance indicators (IKU-PT).

Abstract

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world, with a high prevalence in Indonesia, especially breast cancer. Conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy have various limitations, including severe side effects and cancer cell resistance. This study aims to explore the anticancer potential of the ethanol extract of Apis dorsata Binghami nests originating from Uluway Barat Village, Tana Toraja Regency. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent, with a yield of 51.42%, and bioactive compounds were identified through GC-MS analysis. Anticancer activity tests were carried out in vitro on MCF-7 breast cancer cells using the resazurin assay method . The results showed that the extract contained various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, furanones, and aromatic aldehydes which are known to have antioxidant and anticancer activities. The IC50 value obtained was 434.30 µg/mL, indicating weak cytotoxic activity. Nevertheless, this extract showed significant ability to kill cancer cells at certain concentrations, especially 15.63 µg/mL which reduced cell viability by 44.39%. These results indicate that A. dorsata Binghami nests contain compounds that have the potential as natural anticancer agents, but require further research for fractionation and identification of more specific active compounds and further testing in vivo

Abstract

Blood glucose is a term that refers to the glucose level in the blood. The food type and physiological functions of the body can increase blood glucose. The right food can maintain stable blood sugar. One food source that can maintain stable blood sugar is tubers. One of them is daluga tubers which have a low glycemic index value. This study aims to determine the effect of giving composites made from daluga tubers for 42 days on the blood glucose levels of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). This study used a completely randomized experimental design with nine treatments and three replications. An experimental animal was given 30 g of food each day for 42 days based on the group of treatments. The drinking water was given ad libitum. Blood glucose was measured on days 21 and 42. The results showed that providing daluga-based composite feed to mice affected blood glucose levels (p<0.05). The feeding treatment was 100% composite 3 consisting of 30% daluga flour, 40% rice flour, and 30% corn flour, a daluga-based food can potentially be a food ingredient that can maintain stable blood glucose levels. So it can be concluded that composite 3 could be safe to consume by the diabetes patient.

Abstract

Household waste contributes the largest share of daily waste production, necessitating waste management and the participation of women, as those responsible for managing household waste. Eco Enzyme is a product processed from organic waste to produce a multi-purpose liquid that is highly beneficial for women as housewives. The purpose of this activity is to manage waste through the production of eco-enzyme for women in the Sion Ranomut Congregation. This activity increases the knowledge and skills of women in waste management. Furthermore, this activity serves as a means of dissemination and training for women, fostering their enthusiasm and love for the environment at home and beyond. It also serves as a platform for lecturers to implement knowledge and conduct off-campus activities to achieve the Key Performance Indicators for Universities and Campuses with Impact. Abstract

Modern agriculture faces challenges in the form of dependence on chemical fertilizers and increasing organic waste that has not been optimally utilized. This activity aims to develop innovation in processing organic waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) as part of a sustainable agricultural system in Beong Village, Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands Regency (SITARO). The implementation method used a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach and the application of appropriate technology through training, manufacturing, and POC application tests. The main ingredients consisted of chicken manure, nutmeg leaves, and vegetable waste fermented using EM4 bioactivator for 24 days in two fermentation stages, namely anaerobic and aerobic. The analysis showed that the POC contained 1.14% N, 0.01% P, 0.38% K, pH 6.8, and a C/N ratio of 14.5 in accordance with SNI 19-7030-2004. The application of POC increased the growth of mustard plants by 35% and tomatoes by 32%, and reduced the use of chemical fertilizers by 55%. This innovation reduced the volume of organic waste by 60% and increased farmer group productivity by 70%. The novelty of this activity lies in the integration of local agricultural waste management into economically valuable liquid fertilizer that supports circular economy and low-emission agriculture.
