Abstract

Terror acts carried out by the Al-Qaeda group and its network continue to occur in various countries, including Indonesia. The addition of group members to the network also shows existence over time. This condition is supported by the massive spread of radical ideology by the Al-Qaeda network, especially targeting educational environments and women. In this research, we want to outline the process of spreading radical ideology and the steps that need to be considered from a national security perspective. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to explain the main discussion. The method used in data collection is secondary data obtained through literature study. The research results obtained are that emotional approaches, cultural factors, and the doctrine of wrong religious views, play an important role in the expansion of radical ideology, where groups of young people and women become victims as well as part of the perpetrators of the spread of radical ideology. Thus, the researcher provides suggestions and input for the Indonesian government in taking a gentle and persuasive approach as a step to minimize the spread of radical ideology in educational environments and among women. This step also aims to change the perspective of groups that have been exposed to radicalism.

Abstract

Aim: This research aims to discuss the maritime terrorism problem, which researchers see as a national security and sovereignty risk. Terrorist acts committed by maritime groups are a real danger that can jeopardize a country’s safety and independence without its citizens’ knowledge.Method: Researchers in this study employed qualitative and case study research strategies. Qualitative research is a method that gathers information about a topic through in-depth interviews, focus groups, and documenting people’s actions and words. In contrast to quantitative research methods, which emphasize the sample size of the studied population, case study research seeks to gain a deeper comprehension of the issue at hand.Findings: According to these research results, the maritime terrorism group is actively plotting and executing terrorist attacks throughout Southeast Asia. Abu Sayyaf, JI, and the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) are just a few groups that have publicly stated their intention to oppose western rule in the Philippines. To the tune of Brandt, those terrorist groups on the high seas unleash their full arsenals in acts of terror. Terrorists on the high seas didn’t act because of any ideological commitment to a specific government or religion, unlike ISIS and Al Qaeda.Implications/Novel Contribution: Terrorism cannot be eliminated by any one nation acting alone or the government alone. To defeat terrorism entirely, we need additional resources. Terrorists are human, and as such, they make decisions based on trust and reason, which puts innocent people in danger. While the government’s approach is undoubtedly required, it has only served to restrain the terrorist uprising. Multiple channels of diplomacy are necessary to eradicate terrorism once and for all.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Selat Makassar, Lapisan termoklin, Suhu, Salinitas, Kecepatan SuaraABSTRACTThe Makassar Strait is a strategic route between Kalimantan and Sulawesi that connects the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. In addition to being an important international shipping route, this area is also prone to security threats such as sea mines and underwater drones, requiring strict surveillance and cross-sector cooperation. This study aims to explore the characteristics of the water column, particularly the thermocline layer that has the potential to become a hiding place (Shadowzone), at a depth of 0–300 metres at the Makassar Strait choke point. Temperature and salinity data at different depths were obtained from argofloat measurements during the period from October 2017 to January 2018. Sound propagation velocity calculations were performed using the Medwin empirical equation. The thermocline layer was identified through a temperature gradient of 0.1°C per metre. Data visualisation and analysis were conducted using ODV 5.6.2 software. The results of the study show that the thermocline layer is located at a depth of 86.4–158.1 metres, with a temperature of 16.79–27.98°C, salinity of 33.75–34.67‰, and sound velocity of 1514.19–1541.95 m/s. The thickness of this layer, approximately 72 metres, is indicated as a potential shadow zone for the hiding of underwater objects. Keywords: Makassar Strait, Thermocline Layer, Temperature, Salinity, Sound Velocity

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the critical role of employee engagement in enhancing productivity, retention, and organizational sustainability. It investigates how engagement influences individual and team performance, explores contextual factors affecting engagement, and proposes strategies to address challenges in maintaining high levels of employee engagement. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review approach, synthesizing qualitative insights from diverse organizational contexts. It integrates theoretical frameworks, particularly the Job Demands-Resources Model, to analyze the interplay between engagement, job demands, and managerial resources. Secondary data from reputable academic sources are systematically reviewed to uncover patterns and insights into employee engagement dynamics. The findings reveal that employee engagement directly enhances motivation, creativity, and innovation, fostering higher productivity and reducing turnover. Engagement is influenced by both internal factors (recognition, career development opportunities, and managerial support) and external factors (work models, organizational culture, and work-life balance policies). Additionally, the study highlights challenges such as workload pressures, generational differences, and the complexities of remote and hybrid work environments. Practical strategies, such as recognition programs, flexible work policies, and leveraging engagement analytics, are critical to sustaining engagement and organizational success. Practically, this research offers evidence-based recommendations for organizations to design adaptive engagement strategies that enhance productivity, reduce turnover, and support long-term sustainability. The study also contributes to academic discourse by expanding the theoretical understanding of engagement within contemporary work contexts. Future research should address longitudinal analyses and explore emerging factors like technology and generational shifts to refine engagement strategies further.

Abstract

Defense human resources in the VUCA era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) based on Law Number 3 of 2002 concerning state defense. The VUCA era, which is characterized by rapid change, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, demands changes in the strategy of managing human resources in the defense sector. This study uses a normative legal method, with a statutory approach and analysis of literature related to defense human resource policies. The results of the study indicate that Human Resource Management in the defense sector, in accordance with Law Number 3 of 2002, must adapt to the challenges of the VUCA era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity). The need for superior and adaptive human resources is increasingly crucial, requiring them not only to have technical skills, but also a deep understanding of information and communication technology, and the ability to deal with cyber threats. In addition, mastery and maintenance of advanced main weapons systems (alutsista) are indicators of the reliability of human resources. However, existing regulations are still not fully in line with VUCA dynamics, so the government needs to formulate relevant training policies, including adjusting the curriculum at military academies. In addition, it is important to regulate the legality of international training programs and provide legal protection for personnel, including guarantees of basic rights such as compensation and medical care. Comprehensive policies and regulations will strengthen risk management and enable decentralization of decision-making, so that personnel can be more flexible and effective in facing evolving challenges.

Abstract
