Abstract

Objective Structured Clinical Assessment (OSCA) is one of the evaluation methods used in nursing education to assess students' clinical competence. However, the OSCA exam often causes significant anxiety for nursing students due to high academic and professional demands. Anxiety is a common emotional response experienced by individuals in the face of stressful or challenging situations. One way to reduce anxiety is with good social support. Social support is the opinion of others who tell that individuals need affection, attention, valued, respected, and involved. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support and the level of anxiety experienced by undergraduate nursing students in facing the OSCA exam. The type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was nursing students totalling 572 respondents. This research uses the spearman test, and this research was conducted from August to Septembe. Researchers used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling method, the research sample above showed 90 people to become respondents with inclusion criteria (1. Active students of semester II, IV, IV of the Nursing Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta who took the OSCA exam, 2. Students take the OSCA exam directly on the appointed day, 3. Willing to fill out the research questionnaire). Measurement of social support using the MSPSS (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support) questionnaire and the HARS (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale) questionnaire for anxiety levels. The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate social support with 35 respondents (38.9%) and severe anxiety 27 respondents (30%). Data analysis using Spearman Test. Spearmen correlation test results obtained a p-value significance of 0.001 <0.05 and a correlation coefficient value of 0.767. The conclusion of the study is that there is a relationship between social support and anxiety levels in nursing undergraduate students when facing OSCA exams.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Expressive Writing Therapy in reducing symptoms in patients with low self-esteem and auditory hallucinations. This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed a significant increase in hallucination control scores (from 13.0 to 21.4; p=0.043) and self-esteem scores (from 13.0 to 22.2; p=0.042). In conclusion, expressive writing therapy is effective as a psychiatric nursing intervention to help patients recognize, control, and redirect responses to hallucinations and promote a more positive self-perception.   Keywords: Auditory Hallucinations, Low Self-Esteem, Expressive Writing Therapy

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness through yoga on the quality of life of patients with hallucinations. The study used a case study design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The results showed that before the intervention, respondents' quality of life was in the poor to moderate category, with scores ranging from 26–58. After the intervention, all respondents experienced an improvement in their quality of life, ranging from good to excellent, with scores ranging from 69–84. These changes were demonstrated by decreased anxiety, increased control over hallucinations, emotional stability, improved social interactions, and the ability to carry out daily activities. In conclusion, mindfulness through yoga is effective in improving the quality of life of patients with hallucinations. Keywords: Hallucinations, Quality of Life, Mindfulness, Schizophrenia, Yoga

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze paradigm shifts in the philosophy of science for health promotion through a systematic literature review spanning the period of 2017–2025. This review adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and employed a narrative-thematic analysis of eight articles retrieved from five reputable international databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, SAGE, and Wiley). Quality appraisal was conducted using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Checklist. Sixty-eight articles met the criteria for full-text reading, with eight articles passing the final selection based on the defined criteria. The findings indicate that the paradigm of health promotion has shifted from a biomedical-positivistic approach toward a paradigm that is pluralistic, reflective, and humanistic. The thematic analysis yielded four main themes: the shift from the biomedical paradigm toward pluralistic epistemology, the importance of context and mechanisms in the critical-realist approach, epistemic justice and ethical reflection in knowledge production, and community and social resilience as the basis of the new paradigm. This shift suggests that modern health promotion no longer focuses solely on technical interventions but on the construction of knowledge that is contextual, equitable, and rooted in human values. These findings are expected to form the basis for developing more participatory and inclusive health promotion policies and practices.
