Based on data on the number of MSMEs in NTB, the City of Mataram ranks first with the most MSMEs in NTB with a total of 22,473 as of July 2021. However, in general, MSMEs in the city of Mataram still face obstacles such as capital, licensing, raw materials, product marketing, financial management and innovation. Based on observations made by the Community Service Team at Bumigora University, out of a total of 100 MSMEs surveyed, capital was the biggest obstacle for MSMEs in developing their business with a percentage of 37%, financial management 30%, promotion 17%, raw materials 15% , and others 11%. Based on the observational data, an action is needed to overcome the problems of MSMEs and help develop the businesses of MSME actors in the city of Mataram. The Bumigora University Community Service Team tries to facilitate MSMEs in facing challenges, especially those related to financial management and advertising by conducting training for MSME actors. MSME training is packaged in the form of seminars accompanied by practice in making digital financial reports and advertising language as a follow-up to this training.

Abstract

Pragmatics is the study of the meaning of conversations, which occurs based on the context and the situation. This study focuses on analyzing the flouting maxim in the Barbie (2023) movie. The researcher aims to identify the types of flouting maxims in the conversations carried out by the characters in the Barbie (2023) movie, and also to capture the implied meaning of what is conveyed through the flouting maxim. This study uses Grice's grand theory, namely the cooperative principle (1975). This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Meanwhile, the movie and its transcript are used as data sources. The researcher serves as the main instrument in this research. In collecting data, the researcher watched the movie, identified the dialogues that contained flouting maxims, classified them based on the types of flouting maxims, and analyzed their implicatures based on the context of the conversation. Although many studies have discussed Gricean maxims, limited research has focused on how characters in recent popular movies flout maxims to express hidden meanings. The results of this research show that there are four types of flouting maxims in the movie, with a total of 27 data found. Those are flouting maxim of quantity, it was found 6 times; flouting maxim of quality, it was found 12 times; flouting maxim of relation, it was found 7 times; and flouting maxim of manner, it was found 2 times. Researchers also found the implicature of the flouting maxim used by the characters in the Barbie (2023) movie. These findings are expected to help readers understand how pragmatic strategies can reveal implied messages in fictional conversations.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of lexical cohesion in The Little Prince, a novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, using Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) theory of cohesion, with a specific focus on the reiteration category. The objectives of the study are: (1) to identify the types of lexical cohesion used by the main character, the Little Prince; and (2) to analyze how each type contributes to the textual structure and meaning of the narrative. Employing a qualitative descriptive method and discourse analysis approach, this study focuses on the odd-numbered chapters of the novel as the primary data source. The analysis reveals four types of reiteration; repetition, synonymy, antonymy, and superordinate. With repetition being the most dominant (61 occurrences). These cohesive devices are shown to significantly enhance the narrative's coherence, emotional tone, and philosophical nuance. The findings underscore the integral role of lexical cohesion in constructing the character’s voice, and they contribute to a deeper understanding of how linguistic choices support thematic and stylistic unity in literary texts..

Abstract

The phenomenon of speech act is functions as a tool for communication and a reflection of one’s thoughts, beliefs, and personality. This study aims to analyze assertive speech acts used by the main character, Moana, in the animated musical film Moana 2, and how those speech acts reveal the development of her personality. This study applied descriptive qualitative method with data collection technique through documentation and analysis of Moana’s utterances in the movie. A total of 176 utterances identified based from Moana and only 69 of them were categorized as assertive speech acts. The findings show forms of assertive utterance include stating, claiming, suggesting, reporting, boasting, admitting, and concluding. This research also contributes to the field of linguistics, especially in connecting speech act (Searle, 1969) with Big Five Personality Traits and enriching the understanding of how language reflects personality growth. These forms of speech acts reflect Moana’s change from an informative figure to an individual who is more confident, reflective, and has a great love for new things.  Thus, this study not only provides an overview of various assertive speech acts but also bridges the gap between pragmatic theory and personality.

Abstract

The landslide disaster in Munjul Village, Purwakarta, had a significant impact on the psychological well-being of the affected community. Many victims experienced trauma, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness, underscoring the need for a strategic approach to restore their psychological resilience. This study aims to examine the emotional learning strategies implemented to enhance the psychological resilience of disaster victims. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving victims, volunteers, and psychosocial support personnel. The findings indicate that effective emotional learning strategies include emotional recognition, emotion regulation training, social support, and community-based reflective activities. Integrating emotional learning into post-disaster recovery activities has been shown to help victims manage their emotions, make sense of traumatic experiences, and improve their resilience and adaptability to new conditions. These findings have significant implications for the development of psychosocial intervention programs grounded in emotional education approaches.

Abstract

Although Bekasi is not classified as an area with high earthquake frequency, it remains vulnerable to the impacts of fault shifts and regional seismic activity. Low awareness and limited knowledge among the community particularly students regarding earthquake emergency response procedures can increase the risk of casualties and losses when disasters occur. This community service program aimed to enhance the preparedness of students and teachers through school-based earthquake emergency response education. The implementation methods included disaster awareness sessions, evacuation procedure training, emergency response simulations, and the establishment of evacuation routes within school environments. The program was conducted in several primary and secondary schools in the Bekasi area, involving school stakeholders, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and disaster relief volunteers. The results showed an 85% improvement in students’ understanding of self-rescue steps, along with the formation of school disaster response teams capable of executing evacuation procedures. This initiative is expected to serve as a sustainable education model that can be adopted by other schools in Bekasi to minimize the impact of future earthquakes.
