Abstract

Preliminary studies found one child who was not optimal in recognizing numeral symbols from 1-10, in addition to the use of still conventional media to enhance the child's ability to recognize numeral symbols from 1-10. This research aims to explore the child's ability in learning to recognize numeral symbols in accordance with the principles of learning through work and solving problems for children with intellectual disabilities. This study uses a quantitative approach with an experimental type in the form of Single Subject Research (SSR). The design used is A-B design which consists of two phases, namely baseline (A) and intervention (B). The subject of this research is a child with mild intellectual disability, initialed AS, who is in class III/Phase A at SLB YPPC Painan. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, tests, and documentation. The results of the study, conducted over 10 meetings divided into 2 phases, show that in the baseline phase (A) consisting of 3 meetings, outcomes were 50%, 53%, and 53%. In the intervention phase (B) consisting of 7 meetings, the outcomes were 57%, 63%, 70%, 77%, 87%, 97%, and 97%. Based on the research results, it is proven that educational sound poster media is effective in improving the ability to recognize number symbols for children with mild intellectual disabilities, as the research results indicate an improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to improve fine motor skills in children with autism in grade I of SDLB (Special Needs Elementary School) through creative origami media. The study involved 3 students with autism in grade I of SDLB at SLBN 2 Kota Jambi. This research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The success indicators observed include hand-eye coordination, folding precision, finger strength, and students' independence in doing origami. The data were analyzed descriptively through tables and graphs per session. The research action subjects were grade 1 SDLB teachers teaching students with autism, and the impact subjects were 3 students with autism in grade 1 SDLB whose progress was measured. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The indicators of success include improvements in teachers' skills in designing and implementing origami activities, as well as their impact on students' development and fine motor skills progress. The research results show a significant increase in fine motor skills, where the initial average score of 1 with the category 'Not Yet Able, Needs Full Assistance' increased to 3 with the category 'Able with Verbal/Sign Assistance' and up to 4 at the end of the cycle with the category 'Independent and Neat,' achieving ≥80% in all observed indicators.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the ability to write currency values in mildly mentally retarded children at SLB N 1 Lubuk Sikaping by using wordwall quizzes learning media, namely website-based quizzes that enable the creation of interactive learning. With this media, teachers can create various types of learning such as quizzes, pair matching, random word games, word searches, and grouping. This research uses an experimental method with a single subject research (SSR) approach and an A-B-A design, involving three conditions: baseline (A1), intervention (B), and baseline (A2). Data was collected through observations and tests which were analyzed based on two categories, namely analysis within conditions and visual analysis between conditions. During 16 meetings, the research results showed that in the baseline condition (A1) which consisted of 4 meetings, the percentage of child stability was only 14%. However, in the intervention condition (B) which consisted of 8 meetings, stability was achieved at the 9th to 12th meeting with a percentage reaching 100%. In the baseline condition (A2), which also consists of 4 meetings, the stable percentage remains 100%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of wordwall quiz media is effective in improving the ability to write currency values in mildly mentally retarded children
