Abstract

Interfaith marriage continues to generate debate in plural societies, particularly in Indonesia, where religion constitutes the basis for the legal validity of marriage. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of interfaith marriage from the perspective of Islamic legal sociology by highlighting the relationship between religious norms, state law, and social realities. This research employs a qualitative approach using a normative–empirical method through content analysis of Islamic legal sources, statutory regulations, and relevant sociological literature. The findings reveal a tension between normative legal frameworks and social practices, which has led to the emergence of various societal strategies in responding to existing legal restrictions. This article concludes that interfaith marriage is not merely an issue of normative Islamic jurisprudence, but also a social phenomenon that requires a contextual approach to ensure that Islamic law remains responsive to societal dynamics without losing its fundamental value orientation.

Abstract

Globalization and the advancement of science and technology have brought significant changes to Muslim family life, affecting both social behavior and the practice of Islamic family law. These transformations have generated tensions between established legal norms and evolving social realities. This study aims to analyze the dual impact of globalization and technological development on the transformation of Muslim family behavior and the dynamics of Islamic family law in responding to such changes. Employing a qualitative socio-legal approach with a case study design, the research was conducted in several metropolitan cities with predominantly Muslim populations. Data were collected through a literature review and analyzed using an interactive analysis model to examine the gap between social realities (das Sein) and normative legal frameworks (das Sollen). The findings reveal a shift in family values toward individualism, a redefinition of gender roles within households, and an increase in digitally mediated family conflicts. From a legal perspective, adaptive responses have emerged through judicial ijtihad, particularly in addressing contemporary issues such as the use of digital evidence in family law cases. However, strong resistance within formal legislation persists, resulting in a significant legal vacuum. These findings highlight the need for a more responsive reform of Islamic family law that engages with social and technological change while maintaining its normative foundations

Abstract

The canteen is one of the key facilities that supports the activities of employees as well as visitors in government institutions. However, a frequent issue encountered is financial management, which is still recorded manually in notebooks and not properly documented. This community service program was conducted at the Canteen of the Department of Agriculture, Langkat Regency, with the aim of providing guidance in manual financial recording, cash flow management, and monthly financial reporting. The methods applied in this program included observation, socialization, training, and evaluation. The results indicated an improvement in the manager’s ability to prepare daily and monthly financial reports, understand income and expenditure flows, and implement a recording system using Microsoft Excel. Through this program, it is expected that the canteen managers will be able to maintain transparency and accountability, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the canteen’s operations effectively.

Abstract

As a triadic ethical vocabulary in Islamic family thought, sakinah functions as the telos of marital calm and psychological safety, mawaddah as the affective–commitment dimension of enduring love, and rahmah as the moral–empathic capacity for mercy that enables reconciliation, resilience, and mutual flourishing. This study interrogates how this spiritual–emotional architecture constitutes the substantive core of Islamic marriage beyond its formal-legal contract and clarifies how it may be operationalised to strengthen family sustainability in contemporary settings. Using a library-research design, the article undertakes systematic documentary analysis of primary Islamic sources (the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical fiqh on munākaḥāt) alongside selected contemporary scholarship on marital psychology; the materials are analysed through a descriptive–analytical strategy and a comparative–critical reading that bridges Islamic normative reasoning with relational-psychological constructs (e.g., attachment and emotional intelligence). The synthesis indicates that sakinah–mawaddah–rahmah provides a coherent normative framework for sustaining intimacy, ethical communication, and reconciliation-oriented conflict management, thereby supporting couple resilience over time. At the same time, the analysis identifies a persistent gap between normative ideals and lived marital dynamics, particularly the gendered distribution of emotional and spiritual labour that can undermine relational equity and long-term stability when unaddressed. This study contributes an interdisciplinary conceptual framework integrating Islamic family jurisprudence, marital psychology, and gender-sensitive analysis to inform more relationally grounded premarital education, marital counselling, and policy-oriented discussions on family well-being.
