Abstract

Background: Attentional control is a critical psychological factor influencing performance in combat sports such as taekwondo. However, limited research has examined attentional characteristics of junior athletes during the training phase, particularly within the Indonesian context. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the attentional characteristics of junior taekwondo athletes during training. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed involving 30 athletes aged 14–16 years. Attentional characteristics were assessed using the Test of Attentional and Interpersonal Style (TAIS). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), and gender differences were explored descriptively. Results: Male athletes demonstrated slightly higher scores in the information processing dimension (M = 56.29, SD = 11.66) compared to female athletes (M = 52.20, SD = 11.05). However, overall differences between groups were small, indicating relatively comparable attentional profiles. Across dimensions, most athletes demonstrated moderate levels of attentional control. Conclusion: Junior taekwondo athletes exhibited generally moderate attentional characteristics during the training phase. Although minor differences were observed between genders, these were not substantial. Future research should employ larger samples and inferential analysis to better understand factors influencing attentional development.

Abstract

Problems: Talent identification in sports is a multidimensional field of research that continues to evolve in line with advances in science, technology, and the needs of modern sports. Talent identification encompasses not only physical aspects and tactical skills but also psychological, social, cognitive, and environmental factors. Despite the increasing research, mapping global research trends, particularly on psychological skill-based talent identification in sports, remains a lack of a comprehensive structure. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the mapping of global research trends regarding psychological skills-based talent identification in sports, evaluate scientific collaboration networks, identify existing research gaps, and compile recommendations for future research. Methods: This study employed bibliometric analysis with the help of VOSviewer software. Data sources were obtained from Google Scholar for the 2015–2025 period through the Publish or Perish Reference Manager application. Mapping was conducted based on frequently appearing and interrelated keywords in the scientific literature, namely "Talent Identification by Psychological Skills in Sport," which resulted in 500 documents with a topical scope that reflects the diversity of themes in the field being studied. Results: The research results show that the peak number of publications occurred in 2016, indicating increased interest in this topic during that period. The most frequently published journal was Psychology of Sport and Exercise, published by Elsevier. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the development of talent identification research in sports from a psychological perspective and can be a starting point for further researchers in finding relevant sources and theoretical foundations, as well as identifying research opportunities that are still open in the future

Abstract

Distribusi kategori menunjukkan 56,25% pemain berada pada kategori good, 37,5% very good, dan 6,25% moderate. Abstract

Study Purpose. This study aims to determine the effect of Repeated Sprint Ability (RSA) training on the speed endurance of backs in the Bandung City rugby sevens team. Material and Methods. The method used was a quasi-experimental study with a randomized pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 20 athletes divided into an experimental group (10 athletes) and a control group (10 athletes). The experimental group underwent an RSA training program for four weeks, with three sessions per week, while the control group followed the team's regular training schedule. The measurement instrument used was the Repeated Sprint Ability Test, specifically the 6 × 40 m protocol, to obtain speed endurance indicators (mean sprint time). Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, paired t-tests, and independent t-tests. Result. The results showed that RSA training had a significant effect on improving speed endurance in the experimental group. However, the difference test indicated no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of speed endurance (p=.348). In contrast, a significant difference was found in the Fatigue Index (FI) between groups (p=.023), indicating that RSA training was more effective in reducing fatigue and improving the ability to maintain sprint performance under repeated high-intensity conditions. Conclusion. These findings suggest that RSA training is more effective in enhancing fatigue tolerance and maintaining the quality of repeated sprints, as required in rugby sevens. Thus, RSA training is recommended to be systematically integrated into the physical periodization program of back athletes to improve performance readiness in the competition phase.
