Abstract

Abstract

Waste management remains a serious challenge in Indonesia’s pursuit of sustainable environmental development. Amid limitations in infrastructure, institutional coordination, and policy consistency, the effectiveness of local government spending on environmental functions plays a crucial role in promoting waste management efficiency and improving service delivery. This study aims to analyze the effect of environmental function spending on the efficiency of waste management in Indonesia. A quantitative approach is employed using panel data from 34 provinces over the period 2019 to 2023, enabling the assessment of temporal and cross-regional variations. The analysis is conducted using panel regression with a random effects model approach, selected based on statistical tests to account for unobserved heterogeneity among provinces. The results show that environmental function spending has a positive and significant effect on waste management efficiency. This implies that a greater budget allocation to environmental functions leads to higher efficiency in waste management by local governments, likely through improved facilities, human resources, and program implementation. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing local budget policies in the environmental sector to support more effective and sustainable waste management systems, as well as to meet broader development goals related to public health, environmental quality, and climate resilience.

Abstract

This article maps the maternal–neonatal ethnomedicine of the Ammatoa indigenous community, detailing lexicon, semantic categories, and speech practices that scaffold mother–infant care. Based on an inventory of 26 medicinal plants and practice notes, terms are grouped into four clusters: (1) materials/remedies, (2) actions, (3) prayers, and (4) symptoms. Findings show that the local pharmacopeia is tightly coupled with ritual utterances; water ‘bound’ by prayer soothes the mother, underpins household hygiene, and frames a stepwise pathway from comfort care to referral when danger signs emerge. The coexistence of sanro pammana (traditional birth attendant) and midwife indicates a practical division of labor, sanro on ritual/comfort, midwife on clinical actions, while the family, especially the husband, supports logistics and decision-making. Linguistically, the lexicon is transmitted in Konjo interspersed with Indonesian, functioning not only as labels but as a social protocol that orchestrates recovery rhythm and referral compliance. Practical implications include a bilingual glossary and culturally attuned health communication materials for mother–infant care.

Abstract

The development of Islamic art plays a crucial role in religious education and character building for the younger generation. However, the practice and training of Islamic art at the community level still face various challenges. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic religious instructors as agents of change in developing Islamic art in Batang Serangan District, Langkat Regency. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, incorporating in-depth interviews with four religious instructors, complemented by qualitative participatory methods and data analysis. The results indicate that religious instructors actively participate in introducing Islamic art, guiding arts groups, instilling religious and moral values, and increasing community participation in Islamic art activities. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating participatory methods and the active role of instructors as agents of change in cultural transformation and religious education. This research empowers practitioners, historians, and stakeholders to optimize Islamic art training and opens up opportunities for broader, further research combining qualitative and quantitative methods.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of capital structure on the performance and value of non-financial firms listed in Southeast Asia. Capital structure is represented by the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and the Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), while performance and value are evaluated through Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Tobin’s Q. By utilizing secondary data sourced from the OSIRIS database covering the period from 2019 to 2023, the study employs panel data regression methods to analyze the proposed relationships. The findings reveal that DER significantly negatively affects ROA, suggesting that high levels of debt may impair asset efficiency. Conversely, DER does not have a significant effect on ROE or Tobin’s Q. On the other hand, DAR exhibits a positive and significant correlation with ROE, indicating that leverage can be advantageous when managed properly, although its impact on ROA and firm value is not statistically significant.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the tahfiz program in strengthening students’ spirituality and learning motivation at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Tahfizul Qur’an Jamilurrahman Yogyakarta. The main focus is to understand how the tahfiz activity not only develops students’ Qur’anic memorization skills but also contributes to the cultivation of moral values, discipline, and enthusiasm for learning. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving students, tahfiz teachers, and parents. The data were analyzed interactively through stages of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the tahfiz program has a significant impact on students’ spiritual and character development, reflected in increased worship awareness, honesty, responsibility, and learning discipline. Furthermore, the tahfiz activity enhances students’ learning motivation and concentration in general academic subjects. A religious school environment, the role of tahfiz teachers as spiritual mentors, and active parental involvement were identified as key supporting factors in the program’s success. The novelty of this study lies in its approach, which highlights the integration of spiritual and academic aspects at the elementary Islamic education level, demonstrating its relevance to the challenges of modern Islamic education.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the digital economy has positioned gig work as an increasingly accessible form of employment for young people across Southeast Asia. This study aims to systematically review the existing literature on the relationship between the gig economy and youth employment in the region between 2019 and 2025. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA framework, relevant articles were identified from five major academic databases. A total of 18 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that gig economy platforms offer flexible opportunities and quick income for youth, particularly those excluded from formal employment. However, they also present significant challenges, including job insecurity, lack of social protection, and persistent digital inequality. The review further highlights the absence of comprehensive digital labor policies in most Southeast Asian countries and calls for adaptive regulatory frameworks that ensure fair conditions for young gig workers. This study contributes by synthesizing empirical trends and policy critiques to inform the development of inclusive and equitable labor market reforms. Its insights are relevant for policymakers aiming to promote decent work for the younger generation in the evolving digital era.
