Abstract

Marine tourism development has become one of the important sectors in promoting the economic growth of coastal communities through increased business activities and local economic opportunities. Pulau Pahawang, as a leading marine tourism destination in Pesawaran Regency, has significant potential to support the development of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) while maintaining the sustainability of tourist visits. This study aims to analyze the contribution of marine tourism to the income and welfare of local MSMEs, as well as the influence of tourist perceptions on revisit intention in Pulau Pahawang. The study employed economic contribution analysis, the Sajogyo Poverty Index, and Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results show that marine tourism in Pulau Pahawang contributes 100% of income for the majority of local MSMEs, and all MSME actors are classified as prosperous based on the Sajogyo Poverty Index classification. In addition, tourist attraction, facilities and accessibility, as well as service and interaction were found to have a positive and significant effect on tourists’ revisit intention. These findings indicate that the sustainability of marine tourism not only contributes to the economic activities of local MSMEs, but is also influenced by tourists’ perceptions of destination quality.

Abstract

Abstract

Inequality is caused by various factors, with one of the main contributors being the high level of poverty and the unequal distribution of economic growth across regions. There is a continuous and mutually influential relationship between poverty, economic growth, and income inequality. This study aims to analyze the impact of economic growth and poverty levels on income inequality in five provinces on the island of Sumatra: Lampung, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Riau. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for the period 2011 to 2024. The analysis was conducted using panel data regression with a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach, and the data processing was carried out using EViews 12 software. The results of the study show that economic growth has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, while poverty has a positive and significant effect. Simultaneously, both variables have a significant impact on income inequality in the five provinces studied.

Abstract

The ASEAN region has seen rapid economic openness, yet the benefits for growth remain uneven. Some countries gain from investment inflows and expanded trade, while others struggle with structural limitations. This study aims to examine the influence of trade openness and foreign direct investment (FDI) on economic growth, and to assess their joint effect as an integrative strategy. Using panel data from 11 ASEAN countries between 2014 and 2024, a Random Effect regression model with clustered standard errors is employed. The findings reveal that FDI supports growth, whereas trade openness alone has a negative impact. However, the interaction between FDI and trade openness becomes positively significant under the Fixed Effect model, suggesting a synergistic relationship. Exchange rates are also positively associated with growth, while inflation appears insignificant. These results highlight the need for holistic economic policies. The implication is that ASEAN’s development strategies should integrate openness with investment, supported by domestic readiness, to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically analyze the effect of imports and external debt on foreign exchange reserves as an indicator of external stability in Indonesia. External stability is a critical component in maintaining national economic resilience, reflected by the adequacy of foreign exchange reserves. The study employs a quantitative approach using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method, utilizing annual data from 2009 to 2018. The independent variables consist of import values and external debt, while the dependent variable is foreign exchange reserves. The estimation results reveal that imports have a negative and statistically significant effect on foreign exchange reserves, whereas external debt has a positive but statistically insignificant effect. These findings suggest that rising import activity tends to deplete foreign exchange reserves, while external debt has not yet demonstrated a substantial contribution to reserve accumulation in the short term. Thus, a balanced management of imports and external debt is essential to support Indonesia's external stability. The study offers relevant policy implications for fiscal and monetary authorities in formulating sustainable macroeconomic strategies.

Abstract

The Indonesian Banking Dispute Resolution Alternative Institution (LAPSPI) holds a vital role in addressing digital banking disputes amid the rapid growth of the financial sector. Based on a qualitative descriptive study through literature review, mediation emerges as the most effective approach for resolving technical and service-related issues, while digital security disputes often require legal intervention. One major challenge is the low public awareness of LAPSPI's functions and mechanisms. Despite this, LAPSPI proves to be an efficient, fair, and adaptable non-litigation forum for resolving conflicts outside the court system. Its presence supports consumer protection and strengthens trust in digital financial services, making it a crucial element in Indonesia’s effort to modernize and secure its banking industry in the digital era.

Abstract

Managing carbon emissions is a pivotal challenge in Indonesia due to its significant impact on climate change and environmental sustainability. This study aims to examine the dynamic relationships between economic growth, primary energy consumption, and carbon emissions in Indonesia, employing the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) approach. Using annual data from 1996 to 2023 sourced from the World Bank, the analysis investigates both short-term and long-term effects of the independent variables on carbon emissions. The findings reveal that primary energy consumption exerts a substantial and consistent impact on increasing carbon emissions across both time horizons, whereas the influence of economic growth appears more variable and less pronounced. The Impulse Response Function (IRF) analysis demonstrates a persistent upward trend in carbon emissions following shocks from primary energy consumption. Moreover, the Variance Decomposition analysis highlights that by the 25th period, primary energy consumption accounts for 23.79% of the variance in carbon emissions, whereas economic growth contributes only 4.09%. These results underscore the urgent need for Indonesia to prioritize energy transition policies that promote the adoption of renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency. Such measures are essential to mitigate carbon emissions and support the country’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation.
