Abstract

This research examines a phenomenon developing among young people regarding shopping for imported used clothing or what is often referred to as thrifting. This research aims to analyze the essence and meaning of thrifting practices carried out by young people in Pasar Legi Jatinom Klaten. The research method used is qualitative, using an ethnographic research approach. The selection of informants was done by using a purposive technique. Meanwhile, this study used three data collection techniques: observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used Creswell's ethnographic analysis technique. This research uses Jean Baudrillard's theory of consumerism. The results of the research show that the practice of thrifting is not only an activity of buying and consuming imported used clothes, but more than that, the practice of thrifting has its meaning for young people, whereas thrifting has meaning as a series of complex processes related to clothing. In the practice of thrifting, consumers do not only wear imported second-hand clothes that they buy based on functional value, but more than that, the consumption of imported second-hand clothes by young people when thrifting is also determined by a set of desires for status, respect, prestige, and identity construction through a "marking mechanism."

Abstract

Traditions that exist in society are one of the things that will continue to exist, so their existence must be preserved by community members. One of the typical traditions possessed by Indonesian citizens is the tradition of mutual cooperation. One of the traditions of mutual cooperation in rural communities that still exists today is the sinoman tradition. The sinoman tradition in Ngampel Village has experienced a decline in participation from the village's youth. The decline in participation was due to the many services offered to help during the celebration process. This research uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Research data was obtained from primary data originating from observations and interviews. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from literature study. The results of the research show that people's lives are starting to change, making people have a choice in participating in activities at weddings. Changes in roles in youth participation in the Sinoman tradition are caused by the burdens and responsibilities that these youth have. Apart from that, it is also caused by changes in thinking patterns and technological advances which make many things more practical and efficient.

Based on the findings of the data obtained, the researcher concluded that schools are not just a place to transfer knowledge between teachers and students by the guidance of curriculum. Moreover, schools are community settings. There are structures, values , and norms in the daily educational process. The social capital used is James Coleman's social capital, which every community has. We see here the school community must have the capital and components to maintain their society. In this case, unity in diversity.

Abstract

Pedagogical competence is one of the professional competencies that every teacher must have. This is due to the urgency of pedagogical competence to understand students, conduct learning, and evaluation that ensures the quality of learning outcomes. However, this condition is difficult to apply to mismatch teachers because they do not have an adequate knowledge base. As a result, learning is only done to fulfill obligations. This research aims to find out the strategies carried out by mismatch teachers at SMA N 1 Gemolong in their efforts to optimize their pedagogical abilities, especially on the indicators of mastery of materials and learning activities. Qualitative research method with case study approach was used in this research. The population of this research is teachers of SMA N 1 Gemolong. The sample of this research is teachers who experience mismatch and are selected by purposive sampling method. The results showed that teachers carried out various strategies to implement pedagogical competence in mismatch subjects, namely elaborating material, simplifying learning outcomes, seeking references to learning practices from other teachers, and developing affective actions. These efforts are made on the basis of rational choices regarding moral responsibility as a teacher objectively. These efforts are ultimately able to maintain a balance of quality between the main subjects and mismath subjects.
