Abstract

The phenomenon of child marriage in rural Indonesia is a complex socio-legal issue, characterized by tensions between state legal norms, customary traditions, and interpretations of religious dogma. Although Law No. 16/2019 has raised the minimum age for marriage for men and women to 19 years with the noble aim of protecting children's rights, the reality on the ground shows a high number of requests for marriage dispensations that actually legitimize this practice. This study aims to analyze the dominance of customary law and religious dogmatism over state law in the context of child marriage through the framework of Lawrence M Friedman's Legal System Theory. Using qualitative socio-legal research methods, this study examines the dynamic interaction between legal substance, legal structure, and legal culture.

Abstract

This study examines how two Islamic higher education institutions in Tuban. IAINU Tuban with its entrepreneurial campus orientation and IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban with its integrative pesantren model—manage institutional transformation. Employing Schneider and Beatty’s institutional transformation framework and a qualitative multi-site design, data were obtained from the rectors and vice-rectors of both campuses through in-depth interviews, document analysis (including statutes, RIP, strategic plans, operational plans, and field notes), and direct observation. The data were processed using content analysis, presentation, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation of sources and techniques to ensure credibility. Interviews were conducted with campus leaders, the rector, and the vice-rector, as well as observations at the university during the same academic year. Data were analyzed using qualitative methods validated through triangulation of sources and techniques, then interpreted based on selected theories. The findings suggest that the negotiation between entrepreneurial orientation and pesantren integration does not create a zero-sum competition but rather a complementary dynamic. IAINU Tuban emphasizes market orientation, entrepreneurship training, and industry partnerships, while IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban prioritizes pesantren-based character education and community engagement. Both institutions demonstrate adaptive strategies shaped by local traditions and global challenges, resulting in hybrid institutional models. This study makes a theoretical contribution by enriching the literature on institutional transformation in Islamic higher education through a negotiation lens, while also providing practical implications for policymakers and university leaders in balancing modern competitiveness and Islamic values. This research offers a conceptual contribution in the form of an Islamic Hybrid Institutional Model relevant to the development of Islamic institutional transformation theory. Empirically, this study enriches the literature with a contextual portrait of the transformation of two Islamic universities in Tuban, IAINU Tuban and IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban which demonstrates how pesantren values and entrepreneurial orientation can productively negotiate.

Abstract

Problems of Islamic law faced by Muslims in Indonesia are always growing and complex. Such conditions should encourage Islamic jurists and Islamic religious organizations in Indonesia to respond to them. The purpose of this research is to identify the construction of the ijtihad methodology of the Lembaga Bahsul Masail Nahdlatul Ulama. This research uses a qualitative method in the form of a literature study with this analytical approach. Data using various scientific literature that discusses the ijtihad method of the Nahdlatul Ulama Bahsul Masail Institute. The trilogy of Islamic epistemology (bayani, burhani, and irfan) becomes the basis of perspective in analyzing the subject matter. This study concludes that the epistemological basis in the construction of the Nahdlatul Ulama Bahtsul Masail Institute methodology tends to use the bayani and burhani integration method. The integrative method can be seen from the methodological hierarchy of determining Islamic law through the stage of the qauli method (textual method), which refers to the opinions of the four madhhab fiqh books by referring directly to existing texts. Then, the ilhaqi method (analogy method), which is a method of finding similarities between new cases and old cases that already have a legal basis in the fiqh books to be applied to the new case. Furthermore, the manhaji method (methodological method), which is applying the framework of thinking and rules in determining the law that has been compiled by the Imam of the madhhab. This research confirms that the method of determining Islamic law in the Lembaga Bahsul Masail Nahdlatul Ulama uses a method that combines the footing of authoritative fiqh literature with the intellectual logic of fiqh contextually.

Abstract

Since 2010, mosque revitalization has become a strategic priority of Muhammadiyah, emphasizing the integration of religious observance with community-based empowerment. This study examines the Garbage Charity Program (Sedekah Sampah) as a transformative model of mosque-led initiatives that promote belief, worship practices, and civic engagement. Grounded in Social Capital Theory, the research examines how trust, norms, and social networks are fostered through environmentally motivated religious actions. Utilizing a Concurrent Triangulation Design, qualitative data were collected through field observations, semi-structured interviews with stakeholders, and document analysis, enabling methodological cross-validation. The findings indicated that the program fosters mutual trust and collective responsibility among mosque congregants, while reinforcing Islamic ethical norms related to charity and environmental stewardship. The initiative has gained traction beyond Bantul, with its success replicated in Central and West Java, and it has been recognized both nationally and internationally. It has expanded to include eco-mosque features such as rainwater harvesting and greywater filtration for ablution, promoting sustainability through faith-based frameworks. This convergence of religious values and environmental consciousness generates robust spiritual and social capital. In conclusion, mosque-based empowerment initiatives can significantly contribute to community resilience and sustainable development when anchored in localized religious practices and supported by substantial social capital.

Abstract

Effective evacuation planning in volcanic areas requires real-time spatial awareness, community integration, and algorithm validation. This study aims to introduce SVACO-GIS, an innovative system that integrates Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the Sister Village framework to optimize evacuation routes under volcanic hazard conditions by identifying safe and efficient evacuation routes and strengthening community-based evacuation planning. The research applies the SVACO-GIS approach using a multi-parameter asymmetric heuristic matrix that incorporates slope, river distance, red zone exclusion, shelter readiness, and population density to better represent real-world constraints and safety priorities. Simulation results show that the application of SVACO-GIS produces structurally different evacuation route patterns compared to the shortest path-based approach. Routes optimized with SVACO-GIS consistently avoid major river corridors and areas with high slope gradients previously identified as high-risk zones in the context of Mount Merapi eruptions. The resulting evacuation network is directional and does not allow movement back toward zones with higher hazard levels, aligning with the one-way evacuation principle of the Sister Village system. The integration of local wisdom with intelligent spatial computing improves evacuation efficiency and sets a replicable standard for disaster preparedness in other high-risk geographies. These findings suggest that SVACO-GIS can support more informed decision-making, strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities, and guide the development of intelligent evacuation systems in volcanic regions in the future

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of academic needs and learning motivation on students' level of laptop dependency, with intensity of use serving as a mediating variable. In the era of digital transformation, laptops have become primary instruments in higher education, massively influencing academic behavior. This research employs a quantitative approach using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) via AMOS 24 software. The research population consists of 200 Industrial Engineering students at STT Wastukancana, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the data analysis indicate that digital academic needs and intrinsic learning motivation have a positive and significant influence on the intensity of laptop use. Furthermore, intensity of use is proven to be a strong mediator ($p < 0.05$) in forming students' academic dependency. The structural model developed in this study is capable of explaining 70% of the variance in the academic dependency variable. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of digital literacy management and the provision of supporting infrastructure by educational institutions to mitigate the psychological risks of excessive technological dependency.

Abstract

This study discusses the criteria for the halal product assurance system (SJPH) with a self-declaration mechanism in Indonesia from the perspective of George R. Terry's classical management functions. The background of the study is based on the importance of halal certification for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), as well as the existence of a self-declaration policy that allows business actors to declare the halal status of their products themselves. The purpose of the study is to analyze the criteria for the self-declaration SJPH based on BPJPH regulation Number 57/2023 using a management function framework (planning, organizing, directing, and controlling). This study uses a qualitative method with a library approach, through the study of national and international academic documents and literature related to halal certification and management theory. The results show that the self-declaration SJPH criteria include halal policies, a halal management team, raw material control, production procedures, training, internal audits, and reporting. From a management function perspective, these criteria are aligned with the principles of strategic planning, organizing resources, directing the workforce, and continuous quality control. The main implementation challenges are limited human resources, digital literacy, and financial capacity of MSEs, although opportunities for strengthening exist through institutional mentoring and market incentives. The theoretical contribution of this research is the expansion of management functions with a multi-actor coordination dimension, while its practical contribution is a roadmap for improving halal governance of MSEs in Indonesia.
