Abstract

Creativity in mathematics is essential for developing students’ problem-solving skills and innovation, yet in Indonesia, students’ creative thinking remains low, as shown by PISA and TIMSS results, indicating a significant gap between expectations and current practices in mathematics learning. To address this issue, this study aimed to analyze the creative thinking characteristics of Grade IX students when solving culturally integrated mathematical problems, while also considering differences among student specialization groups: Mathematics, Science (IPA), and Social Studies (IPS). The research employed a qualitative case study design involving 30 students from a junior high school in Malang City during the 2024/2025 academic year. Based on a creative thinking test, 15 students (6 mathematics, 5 science, and 4 social studies specialization) were selected for in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed through several stages: preparation, coding, categorization, presentation of findings, interpretation, and validation. The findings revealed distinct creative thinking characteristics across the three groups. Mathematics specialization students demonstrated strong fluency through generating many ideas, filtering logical ideas, and responding quickly; flexibility through diverse approaches and adaptability; and originality through expressing unique and innovative solutions. Science specialization students showed similar traits in fluency and flexibility, with originality evident in their ability to create and articulate unique ideas. Social studies specialization students demonstrated fluency and flexibility but lacked originality characteristics. These results highlight variations in creative thinking profiles among different specialization groups and emphasize the importance of targeted instructional strategies to foster creativity in mathematics education.

Abstract

Creative thinking is an essential competence in mathematics learning because it enables students to generate diverse ideas, approach problems from multiple perspectives, and produce original solutions. However, in the Indonesian educational context, students’ creative thinking skills remain low, and current assessment tools have not adequately measured all dimensions of creativity namely fluency, flexibility, and originality. This study aims to fill this gap by developing and validating a culturally contextualized open-ended assessment instrument designed to measure students’ creative thinking skills comprehensively. Using a research and development (R&D) approach, the instrument was tested with 28 ninth grade students from a junior high school in Malang City. The instrument’s construct validity was examined through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), and its internal consistency was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha. The findings indicate that the instrument demonstrates good reliability and a clear three factor structure aligning with theoretical dimensions of creative thinking. These results suggest that the developed assessment can effectively capture students’ creative potential within culturally relevant mathematical contexts. The study contributes to educational assessment practices by providing a valid and reliable tool that promotes culturally responsive approaches to fostering creative thinking in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Kesulitan yang terjadi pada siswa saat belajar matematika, dapat dideteksi apabila ditemukan kesalahan siswa saat mengerjakan masalah matematika. Kesalahan ini perlu diatasi agar tidak berdampak buruk bagi siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui jenis kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika pada materi luas permukaan dan volume kerucut dilihat dari kesalahan fakta, konsep, prinsip dan operasi. Metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Teknik Miles dan Huberman digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yang dimulai dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan konklusi. Observasi, tes masalah matematika dan wawancara digunakan sebagai pengumpulan data. Hasil dari studi ini ditemukan kesalahan fakta sebanyak 69 dari 118 kesalahan, kesalahan konsep sebanyak 12 dari 118 kesalahan, kesalahan prinsip sebanyak 13 dari 118 kesalahan dan kesalahan operasi sebanyak 24 dari 118 kesalahan. Hasil dari studi ini diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan dalam meminimalisir kesalahan dan dapat memperbaiki kualitas pembelajaran matematika. Kata kunci: Kesalahan, Luas Permukaan dan Volume Kerucut, Objek Matematika. Abstract: Difficulties that occur to students when learning mathematics can be detected if various student errors are found when working on mathematical problems. This error needs to be addressed so as not to have a negative impact on students. This research was conducted to find out the types of student errors in solving mathematical problems on the material surface area and volume of a cone seen from errors in facts, concepts, principles and operations. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach is used in this study. Miles and Huberman's technique was used in this study, which started with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. Observations, math problem tests and interviews were used as data collection. The results of this study found 69 out of 118 fact errors, 12 out of 118 conceptual errors, 13 out of 118 principle errors and 24 out of 118 operation errors. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in minimizing errors and can improve the quality of learning mathematics.. Keywords: The Error, Surface Area and Volume of a Cone, Mathematical Objects.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen asesmen berorientasi kontekstual yang valid, reliabel, dan praktis untuk mengukur kemampuan literasi numerasi siswa kelas VII pada topik bilangan. Cakupan studi mencakup pengembangan soal uraian berbasis konteks kehidupan nyata yang relevan dengan kompetensi literasi numerasi siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development/RD) dengan model Borg and Gall yang dilaksanakan sampai tahap ke-9, yaitu mulai dari studi pendahuluan hingga uji kepraktisan. Produk yang dikembangkan terdiri atas 10 butir soal uraian, rubrik penskoran, kunci jawaban, serta pembahasan. Validasi dilakukan oleh dua ahli, diikuti uji coba terbatas pada 15 siswa dan uji coba luas pada 30 siswa. Hasil validasi menunjukkan tingkat validitas sebesar 86,5%–89% yang tergolong sangat valid. Reliabilitas instrumen diperoleh melalui perhitungan Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,75 yang termasuk kategori tinggi. Uji kepraktisan menunjukkan instrumen sangat praktis dengan persentase sebesar 92,5% dari guru dan 88% dari siswa. Hasil analisis butir soal menunjukkan variasi tingkat kesukaran dan daya pembeda yang baik. Kesimpulannya, instrumen ini dinyatakan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran matematika sebagai alat evaluasi yang bermakna dan kontekstual untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi numerasi siswa.

Abstract

Permasalahan pengelolaan sampah di MA Al-Khoirot Malang ditandai oleh belum optimalnya pemilahan dan pengolahan sampah organik, anorganik, serta residu pembalut sekali pakai, sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan permasalahan lingkungan dan kesehatan. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, dilaksanakan program pengabdian masyarakat Growcycle (Grow from Recycle) yang bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan warga sekolah dalam pengelolaan sampah melalui pemanfaatannya sebagai media tanam. Program ini menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif yang dilaksanakan melalui tahapan observasi awal, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan utama meliputi pembuatan pot tanam dari sampah anorganik, pengolahan sampah organik menjadi kompos, serta pemanfaatan hydrogel dari limbah pembalut sekali pakai sebagai media tanam alternatif. Peserta kegiatan adalah santriwati MA Al-Khoirot Malang yang terlibat secara aktif dalam seluruh rangkaian praktik. Evaluasi dampak program dilakukan menggunakan instrumen pre-test dan post-test, yang dianalisis secara deskriptif dan dengan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta pada seluruh indikator pengelolaan sampah. Rerata skor pengetahuan meningkat dari 12,00 pada pre-test menjadi 16,40 pada post-test, dengan nilai P = 0,000, yang menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan secara statistik. Selain itu, peserta menunjukkan kemampuan praktik dalam pengelolaan sampah dan pemanfaatannya sebagai media tanam. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa program Growcycle efektif dalam meningkatkan kapasitas warga sekolah serta berpotensi mendukung keberlanjutan pengelolaan sampah berbasis sekolah.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a mathematical assessment instrument equivalent to the Academic Ability Test (TKA) for junior high school students who have good measurement quality. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The instrument developed consists of three question items that are arranged based on the TKA preparation grid with emphasis on mathematical reasoning skills, problem solving, and critical thinking. The research subjects consisted of expert validators including experts in mathematics and educational evaluation experts, as well as 80 junior high school students as respondents to the instrument trial. The data collection technique is carried out through expert validation sheets and tests of student work. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to assess the feasibility of the instrument's contents, while empirical validity was analyzed using corrected item-total correlation and reliability was analyzed using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics software. The results showed that all question items had a corrected item-total correlation value that was greater than the r-value of the table (0.220) so that it was declared valid. In addition, the results of the reliability test showed a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.953 which was in the very high category. These findings show that the assessment instruments developed have a very good level of validity and reliability so that they are suitable for use as an alternative assessment to measure the academic ability of junior high school students that are in line with TKA standards.

Abstract

This study aims to describe student’s mathematical reasoning based on Field Dependent and Field Independent cognitive styles on the material equations and inequalities of the linear absolute value of one variable. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were 4 students of class XI IPA 6 SMA Negeri 1 Sumberpucung with the category of 2 students Field Dependent and 2 students Field Independent. Collecting data in this study is the GEFT test, mathematical reasoning tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students with the Field Dependent on the indicators put forward assumptions about writing down information on the problem using verbal sentences. In the indicator of doing mathematical manipulation students use illustrative images and their own understanding based on question’s information to solve problems correctly. However, on absolute value inequalities, Field Dependent students made mistakes in making mathematical sentences. This affects indicator drawing conclusions from a statement. On the indicator of checking the validity  arguments, student tend not to re-check their answers. Meanwhile, students with the Field Independent on the indicator put forward the conjecture of writing down information on the problem using mathematical sentences. In the indicators of doing mathematical manipulation, Field Independent students use the concept of absolute value to solve problems. For indicators to draw conclusions from a statement Field Independent students are classified as able to draw conclusions correctly and re-check the answers obtained on the indicators to check the validity of the arguments.Keywords: mathematical reasoning, cognitive style, field dependent, field independent

Abstract

This study aims to adopt a fuzzy logic inference system using Mamdani method to determine the appropriate scaffolding level for students based on errors in solving geometry problems. The fuzzy inference system (FIS) assessed the students' understanding and provided scaffolding to address specific learning needs by analyzing common mistakes in geometry problem-solving. This method optimized the educational process by offering personalized support, enhancing students' problem-solving skills, and reducing error rates. The data processing criteria using the FIS involved analyzing the scores of mathematics education students at a private university in Malang when solving geometry problems, based on Pólya's stages. Mamdani was used to provide recommendations based on students' cognitive data while solving geometry problems, in line with scaffolding components. The results showed that the system personalized scaffolding levels for students working on geometry problems. This contributed to the field of educational technology by presenting a new approach to adaptive learning and emphasized the importance of personalized pedagogical support. The approach was particularly beneficial for geometry teachers who provided individualized scaffolding based on students' errors, contributing to improved learning outcomes.

Abstract

The provision of problem-solving, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative skills is important to improve human resources that can be obtained from learning mathematics. Geometry is a field of mathematics that aims to develop logical thinking skills, develop spatial intuition, and interpret mathematical arguments. Several studies show that students' understanding of geometry material is still at a low level, so it is necessary to develop or improve the geometry learning process. The purpose of this study is to describe the increase in students' geometric thinking levels based on Van Hiele's theory with a constructivism approach. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data analysis techniques using the Miles & Huberman model in the form of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that before the learning process using a constructivist approach, students' geometric thinking skills were at levels 1 to 3 or the analysis stage to a formal deduction with the average being at the informal deduction and pre-formal deduction stages. Meanwhile, after the learning process using a constructivist approach was carried out, geometric thinking skills increased at levels 2 to 4 or the informal deduction stage to the rigor with an average increase in the formal deduction stage.
