Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability is an important skill that students must have in the process of learning mathematics. This skill allows students to develop logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative thinking patterns. Based on this, the researcher examined the mathematical reasoning ability of grade VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Pakisaji in solving story problems about blocks and cubes. This study is entitled "Analysis of Students' Mathematical Reasoning Ability in Solving Cuboid and Cube Story Problems Reviewed from Learning Styles" and uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This study involved 30 students, of which 6 students would be selected for analysis, with 2 students from each category of high and low learning styles. Data collection methods include learning style tests, written tests, interview guidelines, and documentation. The results of the study showed that students with visual learning styles and high mathematical reasoning abilities can present, ask questions, make guesses, perform mathematical manipulations, draw conclusions, and check the correctness of answers. In contrast, students with low mathematical reasoning abilities have not been able to do these things. The same thing is also seen in students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles who have high mathematical reasoning abilities, where they can do similar activities, while students with low mathematical reasoning abilities still face difficulties.

Abstract

Creative thinking is crucial in mathematics education, particularly when students are required to solve open-ended geometry problems that allow multiple solution strategies. However, few studies have examined how students’ creative thinking processes occur when solving open-ended problems on flat shapes, especially based on Wallas’ four-stage model. This study aims to describe students’ creative thinking processes in solving open-ended tasks on flat shapes through the stages of preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. From 32 junior high school students, three were selected purposively to represent high, moderate, and low levels of creativity. Data were collected through creative-thinking tasks and interviews, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show clear differences in thinking patterns: highly creative students successfully performed all four stages and generated accurate and varied solutions; moderately creative students experienced difficulties during illumination, particularly in selecting correct formulas and understanding composite shapes; while low-creative students struggled from the preparation stage, indicating difficulty comprehending the problem and applying concepts. This study contributes to understanding how creative thinking develops across different ability levels and highlights the importance of learning strategies that support each stage of the creative thinking process. The results imply that open-ended tasks in geometry can be optimized to foster creative mathematical thinking when accompanied by appropriate guidance.

Abstract

This study explores the pedagogical identity becoming of Generation Z mathematics lecturers within digital learning contexts. Using a qualitative narrative inquiry design, the study involved two Gen Z mathematics lecturers from Indonesian universities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed through narrative storytelling and interpretive thematic analysis. The findings reveal that pedagogical identity develops through a dynamic, non-linear process of becoming shaped by reflection, adaptation, and the negotiation of pedagogical experiences. Technology functions not merely as an instructional tool but as a pedagogical space that shapes teaching practices, relational interactions, and professional meaning-making. The lecturers continuously negotiate closeness, authority, and emotional relationships within digitally mediated classrooms. The study proposes a conceptual model that shows how pedagogical identity emerges from the interconnected experiences of personal history, pedagogical practice, socio-emotional relations, and digital pedagogical spaces.

Abstract

Traffic accidents represent one of the most persistent challenges of urban development, imposing a significant burden on public finances particularly through the compensation claim mechanism administered by PT Jasa Raharja. Understanding the spatial and temporal patterns of traffic accident claim frequency is a crucial foundation for local governments seeking to design effective data-driven policies. This study develops a forecasting model for traffic accident claim frequency across the Malang Raya area covering the Batu, Malang City, and Malang police jurisdictions using the Generalized Space-Time Autoregressive (GSTAR) approach as an analytical tool to support regional development planning. Monthly secondary data from PT Jasa Raharja Malang Branch covering January 2020 to March 2025 were used as the basis for modeling. The analysis proceeded through a series of systematic stages, including stationarity testing, spatial correlation and Cross Correlation Function (CCF) analysis, model identification, CCF-based spatial weight matrix construction, parameter estimation via the Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) method, and residual diagnostic testing. Results indicate that the GSTAR(2,1) model successfully captures the spatio-temporal dependence structure across the three study regions, with the strongest spatial relationship identified between Batu and Malang City. Forecast results indicate that Malang consistently records the highest claim frequency, ranging from 70 to 85 claims per month. These findings carry strategic implications for local governments, the Department of Transportation, and other relevant stakeholders in optimizing resource allocation and designing more targeted and evidence-based traffic policy interventions.

AbstractMathematical representations are needed to present mathematical ideas. Students' mathematical ability can be seen in how students represent their ideas on a mathematical problem. The representation used by students will be different from other students. This study aims to see the mathematical representation and mathematical ability of students based on Bloom's Taxonomy. A descriptive qualitative method was used to describe the Mathematical Representation and Mathematical Ability of Junior High School Students based on Bloom's Taxonomy. In this study, the instruments were divided into two, namely the main instrument (the researcher himself) and the supporting instruments, namely the mathematical representation test, Bloom's taxonomy test, and interviews. The results show that the overall ability of students to solve the problem of linear equations of two variables is different. This can be seen in the process of solving the mathematical problems which have not been answered correctly. Although the representation is correct, several questions have not been answered correctly. As for the mathematical ability in terms of Bloom's Taxonomy level, no subject has been able to solve level one to six questions in a row correctly.
