Abstract

The research outlines the computational thinking process that prospective mathematics teachers use to solve PISA model problems. The Department of Mathematics Education conducted the research on 32 students in the Basic Mathematics course. This qualitative approach research used research instrument such as a computational thinking skill test and interview guidelines. The researchers grouped students into low, medium, and high ability categories based on previous tests. The researchers took as many informants as possible from each category using purposive sampling techniques. The applied technical data analysis included data reduction, presentation, and conclusions. The computational thinking process consisted of orientation, abstraction, decomposition, algorithms, and evaluation. The study provided several results, including high- and medium-category students being able to write information at the orientation and algorithm stages. The difference between the computational thinking processes of low- and medium-category students lies in the orientation stage and algorithms. Low-category students had to be more detailed in recording every step of the problem-solving process, as they could not write down all the primary information and problems. Those three lied in the orientation stage, the process of identifying information, and the key problems at the orientation stage as an early and important aspect of the computational thinking process. This research facilitates teachers improve students' computational thinking in solving high-level problems.         Keywords: computational thinking process, PISA model problems, problem-solving DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp961-971

Abstract

The birth of a child with special needs introduces a myriad of challenges, triggering complex psychological dynamics in parents that significantly influence their anxieties about the child's future. This research aims to delve into this intricate phenomenon by examining the role of parental acceptance as a mediator in the impact of Islamic religiosity on future anxiety among parents of children with special needs. The study involved 115 parents (46 fathers and 69 mothers) of children with special needs at SLBN Tasikmalaya, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was executed through the administration of research questionnaires. The analytical framework employed path analysis, an integrated method amalgamating regression analysis and mediation analysis, facilitated by the use of SPSS application version 25. The calculated results revealed that Islamic religiosity exerts an indirect effect, assuaging future anxiety through the mediating influence of parental acceptance. These findings underscore the significant role of parental acceptance in mediating the impact of Islamic religiosity and its potential to contribute to the reduction of future anxiety. Consequently, the study advocates for the implementation of targeted programs aimed at promoting Islamic religiosity and fostering parental acceptance, providing a strategic avenue to mitigate the enduring impacts of future anxiety within this demographic.

Abstract

Online slot gambling is a massive case, especially in Indonesia. In this context, individuals tend to develop repetitive habits in using the internet, which can lead to increased frequency of use and potentially trigger addictive behavior. Therefore, the rise of addiction cases in gambling behavior ultimately led to a sensation-seeking behavior in playing gambling. The purpose of this study is to determine sensation seeking behavior in online slot gambling players. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, specifically a holistic single case study conducted by 5 primary and 3 secondary participants. Semi-structured interviews and observations were used as data collection techniques. The data analysis technique uses thematic analysis using NVivo 14 Plus software. The results of this study are that the research participants showed this tendency through the statement that playing online slot gambling provides fun, curiosity, and adrenaline that spurs them to continue to seek these sensations. This research highlights that thrill, adventure-seeking, and disinhibition in online slot gambling players are the most significant aspects in the sensation-seeking behavior of gambling players. It also found components namely moral disengagement, pleasure and gratification, and risk-taking behavior. This research highlights the formation of sensation-seeking behavior in online slot gambling players, as well as its implications for online gambling behavior. This research is expected to be a reference for overcoming online gambling addiction and the dynamics of sensation-seeking in addictive behavior.

Abstract

The increasing integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in education has raised concerns regarding students’ potential dependency on these technologies. This study examines the relationships between growth mindset, achievement goal orientations, and generative AI dependency among secondary school students in Indonesia. A total of 191 students (junior high school = 180; senior high school = 11) were selected using purposive sampling based on prior experience using GenAI for academic purposes. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey and Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4, generative AI dependency was operationalized as psychological dependency characterized by cognitive preoccupation, negative consequences, and withdrawal. The results indicate that growth mindset significantly predicts mastery goal orientation (β = 0.304, p 0.001) and performance goal orientation (β = 0.284, p 0.001), but does not directly predict generative AI dependency (β = 0.055, p = 0.599). In addition, mastery goal orientation (β = −0.213, p = 0.115) and performance goal orientation (β = 0.110, p = 0.469) do not significantly predict generative AI dependency. The structural model explains a limited proportion of variance in generative AI dependency (R² = 0.032). These findings suggest that motivational constructs such as growth mindset and achievement goal orientations are associated with students’ learning orientations but are insufficient to explain dependency-related engagement with generative AI. The study highlights the need for future research to incorporate regulatory and epistemic factors to better understand students’ dependency on GenAI in educational contexts.

Abstract

All forms of children's curiosity and exploration of the world around them are essentially forms of scientific activity that occur naturally. Through scientific activities carried out by children, they can often build their own knowledge by seeking and discovering new knowledge as a result of their exploration. Therefore, teachers must use appropriate learning methods to facilitate communication between teachers and students. The provision of guidance or, more precisely, training on simple experimental/scientific methods will provide teachers with additional skills and understanding to bring a new perspective to teaching and learning activities and break the perception that experimental or scientific learning is too advanced for early childhood education.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being and to examine the role of positive religious coping as a moderating variable among high school students in a boarding school setting. The study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The research population consisted of all students of SMA IMBS Yogyakarta who resided in the dormitory, totaling 139 students, and a saturated sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. The instruments were adapted from the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire (SSWBQ), and Brief RCOPE. Data analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The results showed that academic stress had a negative and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = −0.436; p < 0.05). Positive religious coping had a positive and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = 0.536; p < 0.05). However, positive religious coping did not function as a moderating variable in the relationship between academic stress and student subjective well-being (β = −0.095; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that higher levels of academic stress experienced by students are associated with lower levels of student subjective well-being. Meanwhile, positive religious coping can enhance student subjective well-being, but it does not strengthen or weaken the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being.

Abstract

Deaf children face challenges in communication, socialization, and potential development. However, with appropriate parenting styles, they can still achieve success in non-academic fields. This study aims to examine the parenting styles applied to children with special needs (deaf) who have achieved national-level non-academic accomplishments at SLB Negeri (Statae Special Education School) Purbalingga. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to understand the lived experiences of individuals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that a democratic parenting style is the most commonly applied by parents. This style is marked by active parental involvement, the use of positive reinforcement, and a balance between freedom and guided authority, all of which contribute to building the childs self-confidence. Effective communication between parents and children is also crucial for mutual understanding. Additionally, parents emphasize moral and value-based education with discipline that avoids physical or verbal punishment. Collaboration among parents, families, and schools plays a key role in supporting the child's growth. In conclusion, appropriate parenting styles can significantly support children with special needs in developing their full potential.

Abstract

Marriage is a union between two individuals who rely on each other, provide mutual support, and build a shared life. Self-adjustment and emotional intelligence are essential factors in fostering marital harmony. Married couples with a high level of self-adjustment and emotional intelligence tend to evaluate various situations in their marital life more positively. This study employs a descriptive correlational method with 170 respondents selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used include the Emotional Intelligence Scale and the Self-Adjustment Scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation technique. The results indicate a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-adjustment in married individuals in early adulthood (r = 0.262, p = 0.001; p < 0.05). Based on these findings, it is recommended that married couples enhance their emotional intelligence through emotional management training and communication skills development to improve self-adjustment in marriage. Additionally, psychological intervention programs focusing on strengthening adaptation skills in marital life can help couples navigate marital challenges more effectively.
