Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to determine the influence of Open Market Operations (Sertifikat Bank Indonesia Syariah, SBIS), Sukuk of Bank Indonesia (Sukuk Bank Indonesia, SukBI), Bank Indonesia Sharia Deposit Facility (Fasilitas Simpanan Bank Indonesia, FASBIS), Islamic Interbank Money Market (IIMM/Pasar Uang Antar Bank Syariah, PUAS), and Islamic Bank Financing on economic growth and inflation in Indonesia. Methodology – This study uses the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), which uses monthly data from January 2017 to December 2022.Findings – The results of the VECM analysis show that, in the short and long term, the FASBIS and PUAS variables significantly affect economic growth. The Covid-19 pandemic has a significant effect in the short term, whereas Islamic Bank Financing has a significant effect in the long term. In the Inflation model, only FASBIS has a significant short-term effect. In the long-term, FASBIS, PUAS, and Islamic Bank Financing significantly affect inflation. Implications – The results of this research suggest that the Government and Bank Indonesia will need to re-evaluate Sharia Open Market Operations, especially SBIS and SukBI instruments. This is the impact of the estimation results on the Open Market Operation variable, which are not significant, and the IRF results, which are negative in the Economic Growth Model and positive in the Inflation Model, indicating that the Open Market Operation variable actually inhibits economic growth and triggers inflation. Originality – This study discusses the influence of Sharia monetary instruments before and after the Covid-19 pandemic and adds the SukBI instrument as a Sharia monetary instrument.

Abstract

The 11th Global Food Security Index (2022) shows an increase in agriculture risk and a decline in the food environment for the third year which is feared to threaten global food security.  It is urgent to have more concern for food security in advanced and emerging economies, such as Developing Eight (D-8) economies.  This paper analyzes the determinants of agriculture credit supply in D-8’s banking and how they affect agriculture risk.  The study uses panel quarterly time series data from 2013Q01-2022Q04 and cross-section data from 7 countries as members of the Developing Eight (D8) Organization. This study employs the dynamic panel analysis, Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PARDL) - Pooled Mean Group (PMG) approach. The result shows that agriculture credit supply and its explanatory variables have a significant relationship in the long run. Unfortunately, only previous credit supply and agriculture risk contribute to the agriculture credit supply in the short run. The result varies across countries in the short run.  Banking in Indonesia considers agricultural risk by decreasing the agricultural credit supply while banking in Malaysia and Turkey maintains a positive agricultural credit supply despite the increase in agricultural risk.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, zakat played a crucial role in mitigating the community’s economicrisks. Although technological developments have encouraged the emergence of digital zakat paymentplatforms, their adoption in South Kalimantan has been relatively slow. Many zakat payers (muzaki) continue to prefer traditional methods of zakat payment. This study aims to understand the reasons behind this preference by examining muzaki’s perceptions, subjective norms, and attitudes, as well as their relation to the spiritual comfort they experience. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with academics, zakat payers, and staff from Zakat Management Organizations (BAZNAS and LAZNAS) in South Kalimantan. The findings reveal that muzaki’s perceptions of traditional zakat payment are driven by several key factors, including proximity to zakatreceiving institutions, deeply rooted habits, ease of implementation, and negative perceptions of digital zakat methods. Muzaki’s subjective norms regarding zakatare shaped by various sources of knowledge, such as digital media, BAZNAS services, government initiatives, print media, banking institutions, self-initiative, family, religious scholars, digital literacy, and peers. Muzaki’s attitudes in the re-actualization of zakat managementare reflected in efforts to explain zakat payment methods at BAZNAS, provide information about zakat institutions, encourage others to pay zakat, and describe zakat distribution and utilization programs. In addition, the study finds that factors influencing muzaki’s decision to pay zakat directly include the perceived importance of akad (contract) in zakat payment, satisfaction, the use of bank accounts, the lack of legal endorsementand socialization from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), as well as limited communication about zakat digitalization, which leads some muzaki to reject digital zakat payments. Theoretically, these findings reinforce the Theory of Planned Behavior, the concept of maslahah in Islamic economics, and the Spiritual Well-being Theory in explaining the interconnectedness of religious values, culture, and spiritual comfort with muzaki behavior. Practically, the results provide insights for zakat institutions to design digitalization strategies that are sensitive to spiritual and local cultural values, ensuring that technological innovation aligns with the preservation of meaningful religious practices.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the development of research topics related to the performance of the BAZNAS mustahik empowerment program in the last 5 years. The research method used is a qualitative method with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach using the VOSviewer application on journal papers indexed by Scopus and Google Scholar and published from 2019-2024. The results showed that research interest in BAZNAS empowerment programs has increased over the past 5 years. BAZNAS, in terms of institutions, has a very good performance in carrying out mustahik economic empowerment programs through business capital assistance and not only providing guidance in terms of material but also the spiritual side by running mosque-based programs and collaborating with da'i and Islamic universities as evidenced by the condition of mustahik who have begun to turn into muktafi and munfiq which shows that in Islam there is the concept of abundance, there is a sense of wanting to share despite limitations. However, the obstacles come from the mustahik themselves because their low level of education affects their mindset to change for the better, in addition to the limited human resources of assistants who have not been able to maximize training and coaching.

Abstract

Zakat is one of the aspects of Islamic economics that has a very important role in equity. As one of the shari'a, zakat has a special discussion regarding maqashid or the purpose of shari'a; both in terms of collection and distribution. The Palestinian issue has long been the target of Islamic philanthropy and even zakat. This qualitative research uses a normative legal method where maqashid sharia is used to examine the law of zakat. The results of the study conclude that the law of collecting zakat and then distributing it to Palestine is permissible and even recommended. Of course, by paying attention to the balance of distribution between the existing emergencies in the country and in Palestine. In raising zakat, amil or philanthropic institutions must pay attention to education aspects of fardhu kifayah in the Palestinian struggle and aspects of the growth of muzakki assets. In distribution in Palestine, it must meet the needs of maintaining the Al-Aqsa mosque and holy places as well as the needs of fulfilling the human rights of the Palestinian people.

Abstract

The widespread organization of zakat and Islamic philanthropy for Palestine is gaining media attention rapidly, driven by the shared Islamic beliefs and historical relations with Indonesia dating back to the early days of independence. The community and government are united in supporting the Palestinian cause through Islamic philanthropy, emphasizing the importance of guidelines to ensure funds are utilized effectively. Maqashid sharia, a legal instrument in Islam, is deemed suitable for this purpose. This qualitative research uses normative legal methods to establish guidelines for zakat management and Islamic philanthropy for Palestine from a maqashid sharia perspective. The study recommends that zakat be allocated for dharuriyat and hajjiyat programs in Palestine, with other Islamic philanthropy supporting tahsiniyat. Philanthropic associations for Palestine should prioritize educating donors on intentions and ethical practices. The Islamic philanthropic programs for Palestine should focus on safeguarding religion, life, mind, property, and descendants, with targets including protecting al-Aqsa and Islamic symbols, fulfilling the human rights of Palestinians, and supporting independence efforts led by both nations' leadership.

Abstract

Islam, which once hegemoned world civilization, cannot be separated from its superior economic concept, one of which is about waqf. In Islamic history, the most famous waqf is the waqf of Umar bin Khattab and Uthman bin Affan, which is in the form of a palm garden and a well. These date palm gardens and wells can be called as productive waqf for the welfare of Muslims to this day. From this historical evidence, all Muslims should be aware that Islam already has a superior economic concept of the people, and has manifested in a civilization in the economic field long before the rise of the secular economy, which is precisely where Muslims today are oriented there. Baitul Wakaf is one of the productive waqf management institutions based in Jakarta. Based on the percentage of Baitul wakaf receipts in 2021, direct waqf contributed 82.5 percent and the surplus productive waqf only contributed 17.5 percent which identified the non-optimal management of productive waqf in Baitul wakaf. This study aims to find a priority strategy for productive waqf management in Baitul wakaf. The research method uses the analytical network process (ANP) method, which is a decision-making method with many interrelated criteria. The factors that influence the management of productive waqf in Baitul wakaf are divided into four aspects, they are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The results of this study indicate that the most priority strategy in the management of productive waqf in the Baitul wakaf is to increase the professionalism of nazhir with a value of 0.2641, then followed sequentially by the strategy of education and socialization of waqf with a value of 0.25464, digitizing waqf services with a value of 0.24480 and followed by a strategy cooperation and partnership with internal and external institutions with the lowest score of 0.22492.
