Abstract

Communicative speaking skill is considered the most essential skill for everyday situations and for a wide range of professions especially in the economic and business sector. The purpose of this research is to improve students speaking skill of UKI Paulus Makassar through the implementation English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) namely (1) planning, (2) actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. For the purpose of the topic, 35 students were selected as the subject. Research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with Kemmis and Taggart model. It was conducted for about two cycles namely cycle I and cycle II. According to the results of speaking test, findings showed that the implementation English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in teaching had positive meaningful effect on improving students’ speaking skill after being obtained test results both cycle 1 and cycle II in Economic and Business students of UKI Paulus Makassar

Abstract

Speaking English fluently, precisely and structured is a skill that is highly expected from students. However, in reality there are still many students who find difficulties to apply it simultaneously in English. So, it takes practice every day to hone students' speaking skills. For this reason, the writer wants to improve students' English skills using an appropriate learning method, namely Scripted Role Play. This research was conducted in two cycles. It consists of: planning, action, observation and reflection. Each cycle consists of four meetings, three meetings for presenting the material and the fourth meeting was speaking test. The data of this research were obtained using quantitative data (oral tests) as the main data and qualitative data (field notes and documentation) as supporting data. The results of research showed that students experienced improvement in speaking English. This is evidenced by the average score obtained by students in thefirst cycle test to the second cycle test. In the first cycle test the average score of students was 69.44 where there are 16 (44.44%) students who passed the minimum completeness criteria, and the average of the second cycle was 80.13 where there were 31 students (86.11) students who passed the minimum completeness criteria. This shows that through the Scripted Role Play teaching method the students have improved in speaking English.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using Google Classroom as a medium for learning English on class VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Bajeng. The research method used is a quantitative method with a Quasi Experimental Design research design which consists of two classes, namely the experimental class using Google Classroom and the control class using conventional methods. The sample of this study was the seventh grade students consisting of 29 students for the experimental class and 29 students for the control class. Data collection techniques in this study used pre-test and post-test. The results of this study indicate that the post-test experimental class has a mean value of 87.41 and the post-test control class has a mean value of 76.03. The results of the data analyzed using the independent sample t-test, show that Sig.(2-tailed) is 0.003 lower than 0.05 so that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected so that there is an effect on students' reading comprehension results after using Google Classroom. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of Google Classroom as an English learning medium has an effect on seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bajeng, especially students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

Technological developments in this modern era have made many people accustomed to using technology that is fast and easily accessible anywhere as an information space, especially in the world of technology. One of the information technologies used by researchers in this research is online social media, namely the YouTube application media. This research aims to determine the impact of YouTube English videos on students' listening skills at SMA Negeri 10 Gowa. This research is quasi-experimental research using the Control class and the Experiment class. The sample for this research consisted of 30 Experiment class students and 30 Control class students at SMA Negeri 10 Gowa. The results of this research show that the post-test results for the Experiment class have an average score of 78.50 and the pre-test is 69.07, while the post-test for the Control class has an average score of 51.57 and the pre-test is 34.97. The results of the data were analyzed using the Paired t-test, which showed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 lower than 0.05 so that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. These results show the Impact of YouTube Videos on Listening Skills Student. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the YouTube application media is effective and has an impact on the listening skills of class X SMA Negeri 10 Gowa.

Abstract

The objective was to determine the influence of English movie to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This used a quantitative research with experimental method. This study used two classes, namely experimental class with English movie and control class without English movie. The samples were grade X IPA 2 with 30 students for the experiment class and grade X IPA 3 with 30 students for the control class.Data collection techniques were pre-test and post-test. The results indicated the pre-test result mean value in the experimental class was 38.50 and the pre-test in the control class was 34.17 indicating that the students ability in the pre-test was still very low while the experimental class mean value in post-test was.83.17 and the post test results in the control class were 63.17 showing that the students’ vocabulary mastery was in a good category and began to increase. The data were analyzed by using and independent sample of normality that 0.053 >0.05 so that normality is distributed, homogeneity values are met,t-test,indicating that Sig.( 2-tailed) is 0.000 lower than 0.05 so that the influence is found. The research proves there is an increase in the students’ vocabulary mastery trough English movie.It can be concluded that English movie can improve the vocabulary mastery of grade X IPA 2 students at SMAN 10 GOWA.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies used by English teachers in supporting the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at SMA Negeri 13 Makassar. The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum emphasizes flexible and student-centered learning, adapting learning processes to individual student needs.This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of the research were two English teaching at SMA Negeri 13 Makassar. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi structured interviews. Data analysis techniques used include data presentation, conclusion drawing, and trigulation to ensure data validity. The resualt showed that English teachers implemented three main strategies in the learning process, namely cooperative learning, differentiated learning, and problem based learning ( PBL ). Cooperative learning was used to enhance collaboration among students in speaking tasks. Differentiated learning were applied by adjusting the material and method based on students’ abilities and learning styles. Meanwhile, PBL was implemented by assigning challenging tasks that required students to solve problems and present solution independently and actively. In conclusion , the strategies used by English teachers align with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, namely meaningful learning , students-centeredneess, and providing space for student potential and learning independence.

Abstract

The success or failure of students in learning can be seen from the results of their studies. If students get good learning outcomes, it can be said that students are successful. This study aimed to determine the existence of (1) the effect of learning habits on English learning outcomes, the effect of self-efficacy on English learning outcomes, and (3) The effect of learning habits and self-efficacy on English learning outcomes. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and documentation from 30 respondents. Learning habits were measured by a learning habits questionnaire developed by Bakare 1971. The Motivation and Strategy Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) instrument developed by Pintrich et al in 1991 was used to measure self-efficacy, while student learning outcomes was obtained from formative test scores. This research results showed that there is a positive influence between self-efficacy and learning habits with learning outcomes. This means that the better the Self-Efficacy and learning habits, the higher the Learning Outcomes, and conversely the worse the Self-Efficacy and learning habits, the lower the Learning Outcomes

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the order of learning that has been carried out by lecturers at universities. Learning shifted from traditional to online. Online learning is one of the main strategies that must be carried out by lecturers in order to ensure that the learning process continues. The study aims to determine students’ responses and feedbacks during online learning in English courses during Covid - 19. The research method used descriptive quantitative method. Data were taken using questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire was prepared through Google Form and a link was sent to students, and lecturers via WhatsApp. The population and sample in this study were students of the DIII TLM study program, S1 Pharmacy, S1 PGSD and S1 ARS at Universitas Megarezky who took English courses. The instrument used is a response questionnaire and student feedback during online learning. Based on data processing and analysis that online learning carried out by lecturers in English courses has been effective, efficient, varied, helping students understand the material, forming independent learning, and increasing student active participation in learning. There are several important findings regarding online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Zoom, WhatsApp and Google Classroom are the most widely used applications as learning media. There are several obstacles experienced by teachers and students during the implementation of online learning related to internet access and quotas. Both students and teachers long for face-to-face learning activities directly in the classroom. Both students and teachers long for face-to-face learning activities directly in the classroom. Zoom, WhatsApp and Google Classroom are the most widely used as learning media.
