Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical communication ability that is reviewed from the cognitive style on SMP-IT students of Yarsi in academic year 2021/2022. This study used descriptive method. The sample chosen by using nonprobability sampling technique with purposive sampling type, and the VIII Al-Farabi class is chosen as the sample. The subject selection technique in this research is based on the result of Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) consisted of 4 students. The instrument used is the essay test to acquire the data of students’ mathematic communication ability, while the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) is used to determine the cognitive style and the interview from the students. From the research result, it is concluded that: (a) Students with Field Independent (FI) cognitive style have a good mathematic communication. The students in this stage are able to write and explain the mathematic idea logically and systematically, state the mathematical problem into drawing or table clearly and precisely, and also able to use the mathematical terms and symbols correctly. (b) Students with Field Dependent (FD) have the mathematic communication that is said to be not quite enough. The students in this stage are incapable to write and explain the mathematic idea logically and systematically, state the mathematical problem into drawing or table precisely and accurately, and also unable to use the mathematic terms and symbols correctly.

Abstract

This research aims to know about the increasing of students’ activities and achievement at grade VIII-F of SMP Negeri 9 Mataram academic year 2016/2017 in learning mathematics on straight-line equation topics with the implementation of Discovery Learning. Discovery Learning is a model for developing active student learning by finding themselves, investigating itself. The type of this research is classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles. Every cycle consists of planning, acting, observating, and reflecting. As each cycle consisting of two meetings. Data of students’ learning activities were obtained by observation and the students’ achievement data were obtained by a test at the end of each cycle. The result showed that the score of students’ activities on the first meeting of first cycle is 10,33, it is categorized quite active. While on the second meeting in the first cycle, the students’ activities score is 11,33 categorized high activity. Meanwhile, in the first meeting of second cycle, the students’ activities score is 13,34 categorized active. While on the second meeting in second cycle, the students’ activities score is 15,34 categorized very active. Based on that result, there is an increasing of students’ activities. Based on the analysis of evaluation results of students’ achievement, the average of the evaluation cycle I and II respectively is 82,84 and 88,00 with classical completeness of each cycle is 77,42% and 87,10%. By looking at the result obtained from cycle to another cycle, there is an increasing of students’ achievement. It can be conclude that the implementation of Discovery Learning model on straight-line equation topics can improve the students’ activities and achievement at grade VIII-F SMP Negeri 9 Mataram academic year 2016/2017.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of errors of students who have visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in solving story problems of opportunity material. Error analysis was carried out based on the Newman procedure. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class IX-A SMP Negeri 7 Mataram in the academic year 2021/2022 who were selected using a purposive sampling technique, then 2 students were selected from each type of learning style. Data collection techniques used are learning style questionnaires, story test questions, and interview guidelines. Based on the research results, it is known that 18 students have a visual learning style, 10 students have an auditory learning style and 2 students have a kinesthetic learning style. The data obtained from the research are: (i) students with visual learning styles tend to make transformation and encoding errors, (ii) students with auditory learning styles tend to make comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding errors, and (iii) students with kinesthetic learning styles tend to make comprehension, transformation, process skill, an encoding error. Although at first glance it looks the same, there are differences in the errors of students with auditory learning styles and students with kinesthetic learning styles, where in the process skill error of students with auditory learning styles are wrong in the calculation process while students with kinesthetic learning styles do not perform calculations to completion (jammed).

Abstract

This service is based on the competency standard of statistical knowledge and the evaluation of teachers is still low, so teachers need socialization regarding the application of statistics to analyze data on evaluating student learning outcomes. According to Law No. 15 of 2005, the development of the teaching profession can be carried out by increasing scientific knowledge both in the field of teaching materials and in the field of pedagogy. The method used in this service activity is mentoring including lectures, questions, answers, and presentation assignments in face-to-face, and online forms. This service activity is arranged in four stages, of which one stage is carried out face-to-face and three stages are carried out online. Face-to-face activities are carried out using lecture and question-and-answer methods. while online activities are carried out with FGDs, questions and answers, and presentations. The expected outcome after this service is that teachers are proficient in using statistical application programs in analyzing valid and significant evaluation data on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract Lack of knowledge in a number of teachers who are not able to operate the concept of learning well, namely teachers only rely on learning methods and strategies on the handbook or documents that have been received. The impact of learners has difficulty in solving problems. By utilizing the results of research on the development of mathematical learning tools in the form of teaching materials, LKPD, and RPP based on 21st century skills that are feasible to be used can solve the problem. Therefore, it is necessary to socialize and implement the results of the research to the community, especially teachers in junior high schools. the outer target of this agility is the understanding for teachers of 21st century skill-based learning tools, particularly mathematics and other subjects.

Abstract

Professional teachers should always try to improve their knowledge in the field of teaching matherials and pedagogics. The method used in this service activity is mentoring offline and online (including lectures, question-and-answer, assigntments, and presentations method). This service activity is arranged in four stages, where one stage is carried out online and three stages are carried out online. Offline activities are carried out using lecture and question-and-answer methods, while onine activities are carried out with FGD, question-and-answer, and presentations method. The expected output of this service activity is that the teachers are proficient in using statistical application programs in analyzing valid and significant evaluation data of students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

In the 2019 survey, 82.2% of teachers never participated in media training, especially learning media based on geogebra technology. Meanwhile, 92.8% of teachers stated that mathematics requires learning media. The low quality of education in NTB requires special attention from both the government and the private sector, so it is important to conduct technology-based learning media training in order to improve the quality of education, especially improving the quality of teachers. The training was carried out using offline and online methods for two days, 19 and 20 August 2021 at SMPN 16 Mataram. The training was attended by 22 participants from junior high school mathematics teachers in the city of Mataram. In the implementation of the training, an evaluation was carried out using questionnaires and observations. The conclusions from the results of the service were as follows: Geogebra training as a medium for learning mathematics for SMP teachers in the city of Mataram in 2021 received a very good response and was well received by the teachers. Geogebra training as a medium for learning mathematics for junior high school teachers in the city of Mataram in 2021 is very in line with what is expected by mathematics teachers in the City of Mataram and increases teacher competence in the context of applying technology in learning to develop technology-based mathematics learning media.

Abstract

Mathematical investigative ability is one of the skills that need to be honed in every student to improve problem-solving skills and develop thinking skills. A mathematical investigation has four stages: specialization, conjecture, justification, and generalization. This paper aims to describe the mathematical investigative abilities of extroverted and introverted personality students. This study was conducted qualitatively on Junior High School 1 Mataram students in grades IX-F, selected by a simple random sampling technique. Based on the mathematical investigation test results and personality type, 6 students were selected to be interviewed. The results showed that extrovert students were alert, independent, and outward-looking or oriented when doing mathematical investigation tests, such as directly working on questions deftly and trying out their ideas. Therefore, students with extrovert personalities mostly succeeded in going through three stages of an investigation, namely: specialization, conjecture, and justification. Introvert personality students, when doing mathematical investigations, are thorough, detailed, focused, and think deeply, such as checking answers by doing one more time, then rereading the answers in detail, and focusing on thinking deeply at the generalization stage. Therefore, most introverted students passed three stages of mathematical investigation: specialization, conjecture, and justification. However, some introverted students also made it through the fourth stage.

Abstract

Kemampuan memahami matematika merupakan hal yang penting dan harus dikuasai oleh siswa. Namun, banyak siswa kesulitan untuk memahami dan memecahkan masalah. Pemahaman matematis yang dapat digunakan guru untuk memastikan pemahaman siswa dan untuk mengidentifikasi siswa yang benar-benar paham  atau tidak adalah teori Skemp. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan pemahaman matematis siswa ditinjau dari teori Skemp materi segi empat pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 15 Mataram. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Instrument yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan pemahaman tinggi memenuhi semua indikator pemahaman matematis, mampu menjelaskan, dan masuk ke dalam pemahaman relasional. Siswa dengan pemahaman matematis  sedang memenuhi 6 dari 7 indikator pemahaman matematis, mampu menjelaskan dan masuk ke dalam pemahaman relasional. Siswa dengan pemahaman matematis rendah memenuhi 4 dari 7 indikator pemahaman matematis, tidak mampu menjelaskan dan masuk ke pemahaman instrumental. Dengan demikian, siswa dengan pemahaman matematis  tinggi dan sedang memiliki pemahaman relasional. Sedangkan, siswa dengan pemahaman matematis rendah memiliki pemahaman instrumental.

Abstract

This research was a development research which was aimed to producing a new product in the form of digital mathematical comic. Digital mathematical comic developed through four stages according to the 4D model procedure which are define, design, develop, and disseminate. The instrument in this study was a questionnaire used to assess the feasibility of comics and student responses. The feasibility of comics was assessed by 2 lecturers as media experts and 2 teachers as material experts. The media expert’s give an average score of 70.50 out of a total average of 80.00 with very feasible category and the material expert’s give an average score of 48.00 out of a total average of 52.00 with very feasible category. Subsequently, a trial was conducted on 26 seventh grade students at SMPN 8 Mataram. According to the student response questionnaire an average score of 14.27 was obtained from a total average of 15.00 with very feasible category. So it can be concluded that digital mathematical comics are declared very feasible for use in math learning in the classroom.
