Abstract

Social arithmetics is a mathematical material which uses very close everyday life. For this reason, social arithmetics is very important to be understood properly in order to we can use maximal. In learning social arithmetics, students often experience mistakes when working on problems. This study aims to determine the mistakes students and their causes based on the Newman error analysis method. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. This research was held in MTs Negeri 1 Cimahi City by taking 30 students of grade VIII for the sample. The instruments in this study were 4 essay questions that have been tested for validity, reliability, distinguishing features, and difficulty indexes. The data in this study were processed using Microsoft Excel. After analyzing based on students' answers, the research shows that some of the students have a problem with Newman method. The most common type of error is the students can’t concluding the final answer (enconding errors). The other type of errors that students experience the least is reading errors.

Abstract

The skill to think critically and mathematics is the basic essential mathematic skills and need to owned by students who study math. This research method use qualitative descriptive research which aims to analyze the student’s mistakes when they do mathematic critical thinking questions on the discussion of circle and flat side geometry. This research subject is 8th grade student who study at one of public junior high school in the city of Purwakarta, Indonesia. The test instrument was 5 essay questions. The research result show that more students have their own difficulties when they do question number 2,3 and 5.  I suggested the learning strategy which can upgrade their mathematics critical thinking skill should be used as the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze about problem-based learning approach to improve connection ability in SMP. The population in this research is VII SMP in Karawang. This study was designed qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results and discussion students connection ability had improved. It is known from the number of students who experience improvement in each cycle. In the first cycle shows that the results of mathematics learning on triangle and quadriplegic classically obtained scores of students from the questions given in the first cycle test, obtained 18 students reached 60% of 30 students who are able to obtain value above the KKM while in cycle II shows that the results of mathematics learning on triangle and quadrilateral material has reached 83.34% or as many as 25 students from 30 junior high school students who get grade VII above the KKM with an average value of 83. This shows an increase of 23.34% as many as 7 people students from the first cycle test. Means only 9% or as many as 5 students still score below the KKM.

Abstract

high order thinking skill is an important skill that student must have, especially in mathematics education. In the process of solving problems, students are required to be able to think fundamental and creative. The purpose of this research is to analyze the comparison of high order thinking ability of students in SMPN Cimahi based on school classification. The research method used is experimental with the design of two class and post-test only. the sample taken in this research is the students of class VII SMPN in Cimahi with high classification and moderate classification. The result of this research is there's still a very significant difference in high order thinking the skill of junior high school student in Cimahi city. SMPN with high classification has good high order thinking skills than SMPN with moderate classification. This is due to the following factors, (a) the students have different bits of intelligence; (b) the way students face difficulties (problems) that varies depending on how the students' everyday learning process; (c) the classification of schools have an effect on student’s high order thinking skill.

Abstract

This research is to analyze and analyze the improvement and achievement of students' understanding and communication ability and the independence of junior high school students learning using Reciprocal Teaching approach compared to using ordinary learning. The population in this study is the seventh-grade students of SMP in one school in Bandung. The sample of the experimental class and the control class. The method used in this research is quasi-experiment. Data processing of communication skills and mathematical understanding using a t-test, two-lane ANOVA, and linear regression. The result of the research shows that the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical understanding and communication ability which get the learning using the Reciprocal Teaching approach are better than the students who get regular learning. Students of experimental class with Reciprocal Teaching learning and control class with ordinary learning there is no relation between mathematical understanding ability with student learning independence and experimental class students with Reciprocal Teaching lesson and control class with ordinary learning there is no correlation between mathematical communication ability with student learning independence.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to see how effective the learning media that have been designed are. The method used in this research stage is development research, in which learning media based on the Comic Life assisted set materials are developed.  This Study included 54 students from Bandung and 114 students from Ngamprah Subdistrict from the Junior High School association VII grade level. In the development of media, there are four stages of research namely define; design; develop; disseminate. The stage result in an average data validation of the material expert of 76.3% for the first stage and 80.8%% for the second stage. Stage I validation findings were 53.3%, stage II validation was 74%, and stage III validation was 81%. Student replies of 76% and instructor responses of 78% revealed the findings of the validation in limited trials and broad trials. Meanwhile, 79.5% of student responded positively during product testing. The level of efficacy of learning media utilizing Comic Life is attained with an N-Gain of 0.34, implying that the level of effectiveness of Comic Life assisted learning is quite effective. According to the findings of the mathematical communication and disposition exam, students who study using the Problem Based Learning approach with Comic Life have a better-mathematical abilities than those who learn conventional learning. In terms of mathematical disposition, it can be determined that students who utilize the Comic Life assisted Problem Based Learning technique have a better mathematical disposition than those use conventional learning. This development research is based on the learning design produced and the characteristics of students.

Abstract

For students learning mathematics, mastery of concepts is important, one of which relates one concept to another. One of the abilities that students must have is the ability to connect mathematically, but it turns out that the facts in the field are still relatively low. In order to improve the learning process, a combination of scientific and contextual approaches can be used by developing teaching materials. This study aims to develop teaching materials using a combination of scientific and contextual approaches to improve the mathematical connection skills of junior high school students, the method used is Research and Development (R&D) ADDIE model. The results obtained from the limited and wider trial validity are valid and feasible to be used at the product testing stage, at the limited trial stage the practicality of lesson plans and worksheets by teachers is in the practical category and at the wider trial stage it is in the very practical category, the practicality of Student Worksheets by students at the limited trial stage and more broadly is in the practical category, The effectiveness was in the quite effective category in the limited trial stage, and it was in the effective category in the wider trial stage, then the implementation in the limited trial stage obtained a percentage of 81.2% and in the wider trial stage a percentage of 89.7% was obtained and for increasing mathematical connection ability, the N-Gain was 0.58 which was included in the medium category.

Abstract

Development of teaching materials on PLSV material using combination of scientific and contextual approach to improve mathematical communication ability and self confidence to seventh grade junior high school students. The purpose of this research and development is to obtain a design for developing  mathematical teaching materials in the form of lesson plans and worksheet with combination of scientific and contextual approaches to PLSV material for smpn 3 cipeundeuythis study also aims to test the level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching materials with a combination of scientific and contextual approaches to PLSV material. This research is a development research. The results showed that based on the assessment of material experts and mathematics teachers, the teaching materials developed had very valid criteria with an average total score of 190.33 for lesson plans and 297.5 for worksheets. Based on the results of filling out questions on communication skills and student responses questionnaires about self-confidence, there has been a significant increase. So it can be concluded that with the development of teaching materials by combining scientific and contextual approaches with the results of filling out observations of the implementation of learning and the results of evaluating learning outcomes, it can be concluded that the teaching materials developed have a very good level of effectiveness with the percentage of learning implementation of 94.87% and the percentage of completeness students to 95%.
