Abstract

ABSTRACT The role of the dog as a definitive host for a number of zoonotic parasites has been recognized as a significant public health problem especially strey dog population. In this population, poor levels of hygine and overcrowding, together with the lack of veterinary attention and zoonotic awareness, exacerbates the risk of disease infection. A public service was undertaken on Friday 16th September 2005 in Sanur beach to control the dog parasitic zoonoses. About 30 trey dogs and 31 domesticated dogs were treated with anthelmintic to control the helminth infections. All of strey dogs were clinically in poor condition.

Abstract

One of the factors that reduce fish production and population is disease. This study aims to determine the various types of zoonotic endoparasites, prevalence, intensity, abundance, diversity index, relationship of fish length-weight, relationship length with the intensity of parasites, and the relationship between weight and intensity of parasites. This research was conducted at Kelan Beach, Bali from December 2018 to April 2019. The research used a descriptive method using purposive sampling for data retrieval. Endoparasites were found in 9 types, namely Cucullanus sp. (3 ind), Anisakis sp. (7 ind), Lecithochirium sp. (1 ind), Hamacreadium lethrini (6 ind), Helicometra sp. (1 ind), Siphoderina sp (7 ind). Trypanorhyncha (32 ind), Tetraphylidea (4 ind), and Acanthocephalus sp. (1 ind). Organs infected by endoparasites were stomach (34%), liver (3%), and intestine (63%). The highest prevalence obtained was Trypanorhyncha (37.5%). The highest intensity obtained was Hamacreadium lethrini and Cucullanus sp. about 3 ind / fish. The highest abundance obtained was Trypanorhyncha (80%). The diversity index was 1,583. The length and weight relationship of Red Snapper (Lutjanus sp.) shows isometric relationship after t-test. Long relationship with parasite intensity has a very low relationship with a velue (r) of 0,142. The relationship between weight and parasite intensity has a very low relationship with a velue (r) of 0,139. Based on 9 types of endoparasites found 1 type is zoonotic namely Anisakis sp. that cause Anisakiasis disease.

Abstract

This research was aims to determine the intensity level of Rocinela sp. in groupers. Grouper fish samples were taken at Kedonganan Beach, Jimbaran, Bali. Grouper fish is a type of fish that lives around coral reefs, that have a high economic value. Grouper fish sampling was done randomly method, so that the length and weight of the grouper samples used will be more diverse. Fish samples obtained at Kedonganan Beach will be excamine for parasites at the Fisheries Laboratory, Marine and Fisheries Faculty, Udayana University. The grouper samples observed in this study were 40 individuals. The type of parasite found in grouper is Rocinela sp. This parasite belongs to the order of Isopoda which is a type of ectoparasite that attacks fish. Ectoparasites are a type of parasite that infects the outside of a fish's body, such as the gills, mouth, eyes, and operculum. Ectoparasites can cause damage and impaired function in the infected organ. Based on the results of the study found Rocinel sp. in 26 fish sampled with a total number of parasites of 28 individuals. Most of these parasites were found in the gills with a percentage of 92.6% and some were found in the operculum with a percentage of 7.4%. The intensity value of parasitic Rocinela sp. that is 1,067, this value indicates infection of Rocinela sp. which is low in grouper fish at Kedonganan Beach, Jimbaran, Bali.

Abstract

Abstract

African Swine Fever (ASF) is among the most detrimental infectious viral diseases in pigs causing approximately 100% mortality. The disease was first reported about 83 years ago in Africa before spreading to Europe in 1957 and Asia in 2010. An adequate vaccine generally containing live attenuated virus isolates prepared in swine macrophages to control the disease is currently unavailable. Therefore, this study aimed to use murine neuroblastoma (N2a) cells, non-swine cell lines, to adapt African swine fever virus (ASFV) isolates for vaccine preparation. ASFV isolate called BL21 obtained from Bali and East Nusa Tenggara was previously propagated in swine macrophages. However, virus was currently adapted in the N2a cells to avoid unwanted issues associated with using swine macrophages, including microbial contamination, as well as technically laborious and ethical issues. The adapted BL21 was re-confirmed with quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR) and tested in vivo to examine the pathogenicity properties. The results showed that BL21 produced consistently and specifically positive q-PCR, killing experimental pigs with typical gross pathological changes of ASF. BL21 at a 10-3/mL dilution adapted in N2a cells showed similar antigenic properties causing the death of nearly 50% N2a cells in vitro and terminating all in vivo experimental pigs. In conclusion, the BL21 isolate reported in this study could be used as a vaccine candidate after more attenuation and particularly to determine a lethal dose of 50% (LD50) for future investigations.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Hindu religious practices on prenatal care and stunting prevention among Hindu families in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. Despite the region's high stunting prevalence, Hindu families exhibit significantly lower rates. To understand this disparity, the research employs a qualitative methods approach, incorporating in-depth interviews, observations, and a textual analysis of relevant Hindu scriptures. By delving into specific practices like magedong-gedongan, this study aims to identify cultural factors contributing to improved maternal and child health outcomes. Hindu practices, such as magedong-gedongan, offer valuable prenatal education and socio-cultural bounding , while banten and prasadham provides nutritional guidance. Additionally, the ceremonial aspects and daily prayers contribute to optimal physical , psychological and mental well-being, essential for stunting prevention. The findings of this study may inform culturally sensitive public health interventions and programs to address stunting, especially in this region
