Abstract

The increasingly fierce competition in the coffee shop industry demands entrepreneurs to have effective strategies to enhance their competitiveness. This research aims to analyze strategies for enhancing competitiveness through the mastery of intangible assets at Kopi Kita in Padang City using the Resource-Based View (RBV) approach and VRIO analysis (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, Organized). This research uses a qualitative method with a case study, involving observation and in-depth interviews with the owner and branch managers of Kopi Kita. The research results show that mastery of intangible assets, such as competencies, knowledge management, and business networks, plays a strategic role in creating sustainable competitive advantages. Kopi Kita has leveraged competencies in understanding customer preferences, strategic decision-making, product innovation, and problem-solving abilities. In addition, effective knowledge management practices and a wide business network are also key factors in the success of the business. Based on the VRIO analysis, Kopi Kita possesses valuable, rare, hard-to-imitate, and well-organized resources and capabilities, thereby providing a long-term competitive advantage. This study provides theoretical and practical contributions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in designing intangible asset-based strategies to enhance competitiveness in the coffee industry.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze how much influence workplace spirituality and self-esteem have on the intention to stay with Employee engagement as a Mediating Variable. In other words, high employee engagement can make teachers stay on their jobs. The approach that will be used in this study is quantitative research. The results of the study also revealed that teacher engagement in work does not have a significant direct relationship with their intention to stay. This shows that although engagement is important, other factors such as work spirituality have a greater role. Therefore, the Adzkia Foundation of West Sumatra needs to prioritize spirituality factors in creating a work environment that can encourage teacher loyalty to continue working at the foundation.

Abstract

This study explicates the impact of consumer perceptions of greenwashing on the purchase intentions of single-use plastic products, specifically bottled still water and soft drinks, within the context of growing sustainability concerns. The objective is to understand how these perceptions influence consumer decisions and how the insights can inform the optimization of industrial practices related to packaging and marketing. Using a quantitative explanatory design, data was collected from no less than one hundred and sixty-eight respondents in Padang City through direct and online surveys. The sampling method is the Non-Probability Sampling method with a Purposive Sampling approach and it is directed to individuals who meet the following criteria: (1) minimum age of 17 years old; (2) domicile in Padang City; and (3) individuals or households who know bottled water and soft drinks brand. The data analysis, conducted via Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using SmartPLS, reveals that negative perceptions of greenwashing significantly reduce purchase intentions. However, positive word-of-mouth can mitigate these effects, leading to a higher likelihood of purchase. The findings highlight the critical role of environmental awareness in shaping consumer behavior and suggest that companies should prioritize authentic sustainability practices which could be in terms of third-party certification to maintain consumer trust and optimize their product strategies. Companies are expected to be able to do business responsibly, by paying attention to the end-to-end production process that has minimal waste and minimal impact on the environment, through the development of more environmentally friendly products and optimization of waste management programs. Third-party certifications may be useful to support this effort.

Abstract

In the context of rapid technological advancement and the global rise of entrepreneurship, business incubators have become essential mechanisms for supporting technology-based startups, particularly in emerging economies. These incubators play a strategic role in bridging resource gaps, fostering innovation, and enhancing the survival and growth of early-stage ventures. Despite their increasing importance, there remains a limited understanding of how incubator performance directly influences startup outcomes. This study addresses that gap through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 920 scholarly articles published between 2010 and 2022, sourced from Scopus and Google Scholar. Using VOSviewer, the analysis identifies key research trends, influential publications, and thematic clusters related to incubator performance. The findings reveal a significant increase in research activity over the past decade, with a peak in 2018, and a strong concentration of publications in journals focused on technology transfer and innovation management. Prominent themes include academic entrepreneurship, incubator performance, technology transfer offices, and the role of innovation ecosystems involving academia, industry, and government. These themes highlight the multifaceted nature of incubator success and the importance of cross-sector collaboration. The study also emphasizes the need for integrated evaluation frameworks to enhance incubator effectiveness and guide institutional and policy-level strategies. The novelty of this research lies in its synthesis of bibliometric insights to propose future research directions and methodological improvements for assessing incubator performance. By mapping the intellectual landscape of incubator research, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how incubators can be optimized to support sustainable startup development and economic growth in emerging markets.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how strategic thinking plays a role in the process of identifying and evaluating new business ideas among Magister Management students at Universitas Andalas. In this context, strategic thinking is used to identify opportunities and challenges in business idea development, as well as to evaluate the feasibility and potential of business ideas through systematic methods. This research also examines the application of the How Might We (HMW) method in formulating business ideas and the Venture Idea Assessment (VIA) framework in evaluating the feasibility of business ideas. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGD) involving students and several professionals from the fields of entrepreneurship, academia, and investment. The results of the analysis using NVivo show that strategic thinking, which involves systematic problem-solving, market opportunity understanding, and risk analysis, plays a crucial role in the success of business idea identification and evaluation. The HMW method proved effective in helping students identify relevant problems, while the VIA framework provided a tool to assess business ideas based on market potential, operational feasibility, and existing risks. Overall, this research highlights the importance of strategic thinking in creating business ideas that are not only creative but also executable and market-accepted, as well as how the HMW method and the VIA framework can complement each other to form a more effective approach in developing sustainable new business ideas.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the knowledge management challenges faced by Rendang IKMs in the context of organizational inertia as a barrier and unordinary competencies as antecedents to achieving superior performance in the domestic and global markets. At the same time, know the role of business model innovation in relation to the performance of the IKM business. The research analyzed data from 105 IKM Rendang in West Sumatra and found that despite being in a state of stagnation or inertia, these businesses can still generate profits. However, inertia must still be minimized by innovating. Meanwhile, the unordinary capability (dynamic capability) that dominates rendang entrepreneurs is absorptive capability, indicating that while SMEs have enough knowledge to understand tastes and market conditions, they struggle to transform this knowledge into viable companies. Business model innovation plays a vital role in reducing company stagnation and enhancing dynamic capabilities in implementation. Moreover, it can mitigate the risk of innovation failure, a fear often faced by rendang entrepreneurs, and provide space for converting knowledge into effective strategies and products
