Abstract

Guava fruit (Psidium guajava. L.) is consist at phenolics content that have antioxidant activirt and the possibility of using as sunscreen. The purpose of this research was to determine the concentration of extracts that have a potential sunscreen profile by determining the value of erythema transmission, pigmentation transmission and sun protection factor (SPF). Sunscreen activity was carried out in vitro using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Ethanol extract, red guava and white guava fruit are made to concentration of 100; 150; 200; 250 ppm, each absorption was measured in the UV A and UV B areas. As result the extract of red guava at a concentration of 250 ppm had %Te value was 15.32% which was included in the category fast tanning, %Tp was 25.4% which was included in the sunblock category and the SPF value was 8,228 which was categorized as maximum protection. The extract of white guava at a concentration of 250 ppm had %Te value of 12.51% which was included in Suntan standard category, the % Tp value was 21.97% which belongs to the sunblock category and the SPF value was 8, 945 which was categorized as maximum protection. Abstract

Synbiotic yogurt is fermented milk containing probiotics and prebiotics. The quality of symbiotic yogurt products during cold storage must meet the SNI quality requirements (2981-2009). This study aimed to find the effect of yogurt storage duration on physicochemical properties and antibacterial activity for the best yogurt storage time. In this study, synbiotic yogurt was made from sweet corn, honey, and full cream milk as prebiotics and Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum as probiotics. The tests carried out include testing total coliform, total lactic acid bacteria, degree of acidity (pH), total titrated acid, organoleptic quality, and antibacterial activity. The tests were carried out on days 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20. The results showed that storage duration affected product quality and antibacterial activity. The best storage duration for yogurt was found to be ten days, where the yogurt stored for ten days found to have a total coliform of 0 APM/g, total lactic acid bacteria of 2.81 x 1012, total lactic acid of 1.684%, pH value of 3.5 and was still preferred and could be accepted by the panelists, based on the organoleptic assessments. The yogurt stored for ten days also gave the largest average inhibition diameter of 21.78 mm with the category 'very strong' against Escherichia coli and 22.13 mm with the classification 'very strong' against Salmonella typhi. The yogurt stored for up to 10 days still met the SNI yogurt quality standard requirements (2981: 2009).

Abstract

Tumbuhan kejibeling (Sericocalyk crispus L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang berpotensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai agen kemopreventif kanker. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efek ekstrak n-heksana, diklorometana dan metanol daun keji beling terhadap Artemia Salina Leach. Uji sitotoksik dilakukan dengan metoda Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Hasil uji sitotoksik menunjukkan  bahwa ekstrak n-heksana, diklorometana dan metanol daun Keji beling mempunyai efek sitotoksik dengan LC50 33,49 µg/ml, 244,34 µg/ml, 143,88 µg/ml. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memformulasi dan mengevaluasi krim tabir surya ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan (Rhodamnia cinerea Jack) serta mengetahui nilai persen transmisi eritema (%Te), persen transmisi pigmentasi (%Tp), dan nilai Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Dibuat empat formula dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan dalam krim yaitu, F0 (0%), F1 (0,1% b/b), F2 (0,5% b/b), dan F3 (1% b/b). Hasil menunjukkan nilai SPF F0, F1, F2, dan F3 berturut-turut 1,05; 4,68 (proteksi sedang); 4,74 (proteksi sedang); dan 9,36 (proteksi maksimal). Nilai SPF antar formula berbeda signifikan yang mana konsentrasi ekstrak berbanding lurus dengan nilai SPF. Kata kunci : Tabir surya, daun marpuyan, formulasi, Sun Protection Factor (SPF)

Abstract

Gula merah merupakan salah satu bahan pangan yang dibuat dari olahan nira palma yaitu aren dan kelapa yang dibuat secara tradisional. Gula merah sering digunakan masyarakat indonesia sebagai bumbu masak serta pemanis makanan dan minuman karena memiliki aroma dan rasa yang khas. Pada proses pembuatan gula merah kini masih ditambahkan bahan tambahan pangan yang berbahaya sebagai pengawet dan pengeras. Belakangan ini marak isu mengenai penggunaan bahan tambahan kimia yang berbahaya dalam pembuatan gula merah, salah satunya adalah boraks. Boraks adalah salah satu senyawa yang dikenal masyarakat dengan asam borat yang dilarang penggunaanya sebagai bahan tambahan pangan, tetapi boraks masih ditambahkan sebagai pengawet pada gula merah yang bertujuan agar daya tahan lama dan sebagai pengeras pada gula merah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeteksi ada atau tidaknya kandungan boraks pada gula merah dengan metode uji nyala api dan uji kertas tumerik (kurkumin). Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan metode purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian pada uji kualitatif sampel dengan metode nyala api dan kertas kurkumin menunjukan hasil tidak mengandung boraks yang ditandai dengan tidak terjadinya perubahan warna pada uji nyala api maupun uji kertas kurkumin.

Abstract

The sweet orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) is a popular fruit. The part of the sweet orange that is consumed is only the fruit flesh, while the orange peel is only thrown away and not utilized. The sweet orange peel contains several secondary metabolites, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, saponins, and steroids, which have antimicrobial properties. This study aims to determine the effect of the concentration of the ethyl acetate fraction of sweet orange peel on antibacterial and antifungal activity in Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Candida albicans fungi using the disc diffusion method. The ethyl acetate fraction was prepared in several concentration series, namely 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, and 1.5625% w/v. The results obtained showed that all concentrations of the ethyl acetate fraction series showed activity in inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria. Series concentrations of 3.125% to 50% have activity in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans fungi. The results of the data analysis using statistical one-way ANOVA showed that the antibacterial and antifungal activities between the concentration series were significantly different (p<0.05) from the negative control.

Abstract

Ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) has been widely used as a traditional medicine in several countries and regions in Indonesia, such as to increase blood flow and relieve body aches, asthma, diabetes, chickenpox, cough medicine, fever, diarrhea, hypertension, and back pain. This article reviews the potential of ciplukan to overcome various health problems. The preparation of this review article uses references from research articles related to the results of phytochemical screening, the isolation of secondary metabolites, and biological activity tests (pharmacology) of Physalis angulata plants reported in the last 10 (ten) years. This plant contains many secondary metabolite compounds isolated from its roots, leaves, stems, and fruits, such as physalin, withanolide, and flavonoid glycoside compounds. Several studies have reported that this plant has biological and pharmacological activities such as antioxidants, toxicity, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antidiarrheal, antibacterial, antifibrotic, and anti-hypercholesterolemia.

Abstract

The Bark of Marpuyan Tree (Rhodamnia cinerea Jack) is a plant that has been empirically used by communities in Indonesia for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. The bark of Marpuyan contains flavonoids, phenolics, and saponins. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activities of the ethanol extract of the bark of Marpuyan using the disc diffusion method at various extract concentrations, namely 30%, 25%, 15%, 10%, and 5%. The results of the antibacterial activity test against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Bacillus subtilis) showed inhibitory zones with respective diameters of 11.67±0.21 mm, 12.29±0.43 mm, and 12.78±0.14 mm. These results indicate weak antibacterial activity. In the antibacterial activity test against Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi), inhibitory zones were found with respective diameters of 13.05±0.05 mm, 12.58±1.78 mm, and 10.98±0.21 mm. These results also indicate weak antibacterial activity. However, in the antifungal activity test, no activity was found against Candida albicans and Malassezia furfur. Nevertheless, the ethanol extract of Marpuyan bark showed moderate antifungal activity against Trichophyton mentagrophytes, with an inhibitory zone diameter of 15.44±2.02 mm.

Abstract

Tumbuhan marpuyan merupakan jenis tumbuhan liar banyak tersebar di wilayah Indonesia. Secara empiris, marpuyan dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat untuk berbagai pengobatan. Daun tumbuhan marpuyan berpotensi sebagai antioksidan. Hasil penelitian terdahulu melaporkan ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan mempunyai aktivitas tabir surya yang kuat. Formulasi sediaan topikal dalam bentuk gel lebih baik  karena memberikan efek nyaman dikulit. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memformula ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan dalam bentuk sediaan gel dan menentukan aktivitas antioksidan. Formulasi gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan 3 variasi konsentrasi yaitu 0,5% (FI), 1% (FII) dan 2% (FIII). Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode DPPH. Evaluasi gel meliputi pengamatan organoleptis, pH, homogenitas, uji stabilitas freeze and thaw, uji daya sebar, uji daya lekat dan uji iritasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat kuat pada FII (1%) dan FIII (2%). Hasil uji stabilitas menunjukkan gel gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan tidak stabil setelah disimpan 8 minggu dan tidak memenuhi persyaratan uji daya sebar.
