Abstract

Unbalanced three-phase radial distribution system has a complex problem in power system. It has many branches and it is sometimes voltage profile’s not stable at every end branches. For improvement of voltage profile, it can be performed by penetrating of a distributed generation models. Information of voltage profile can be gained by study of power flow.  The Modified Backward-Forward is one of the most widely used methods of development of power flow and has been extensively used for voltage profile analysis. In this paper, a study of power flow based on the Modified Backward-Forward method was used to capture the complexities of unbalanced three phase radial distribution system in the 20 kV distribution network in North Surabaya city, East Java, Indonesia within considering distributed generation models. In summary, for the informants in this study, the Modified Backward-Forward method has had quickly convergence and it’s just needed 3 to 5 iteration of power flow simulation which’s compared to other power flow development methods. Distributed Generation models in the modified the modified 34 BUS IEEE system and 20 kV distribution network has gained voltage profile value on limited range. One of the more significant findings to emerge from this development is that the Modified Backward-Forward method has average of error voltage about 0.0017 % to 0.1749%.

Abstract

This paper presents the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to extract the power of wind energy conversion system (WECS) using the Firefly Algorithm (FA) algorithm. This paper aims to present the FA as one of the accurate algorithms in MPPT techniques. Recently, researchers tend to apply the MPPT digital technique with the P n O algorithm to track MPP. On the other hand, this Paper implements the FA included in the digital classification to improve the performance of the MPPT technique. Therefore, the FA tracking results are verified with P n O to show the accuracy of the MPPT algorithm. The results obtained show that performance is higher when using the FA algorithm

Abstract

The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol that highlights on greenhouse gases that have been adopted by many countries. Based on this protocol, power plants that produce emissions are encouraged to pay compensation. Conventionally, optimization of fuel mix in the electric power system components has not involved emission charges on the electricity system. This paper proposes a single objective function of amathematical model for the calculation of power flow optimization involving greenhouse gas emissions costs to the fuel cost function. The single objective function derived using the mathematical model approach with linear heat rate function, in order to get the relationship between the fuel cost function with GHG emission. Namely, the function of energy costs as a combination of fuel costs and GHG emission costs can be shown as a quadratic function.

Abstract

This paper presents the modeling and control of the excitation system via the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) and governor system through the automatic generation control (AGC) or frequency load control (FLC) to improve stability on a micro hydro power plant (MHPP). Three main parts of the generation system are synchronous generator, AVR-excitation, AGC modelled linearly. Generator is modelled by a single machine connected to infinite bus (SMIB) which is equipped by AVR and excitation linear model. Excitation control system made by optimizing the gain of the AVR (KA) and the governor with the gain of the AGC (Ki). Optimization is done using the method improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO). The main purpose of setting the gain of the AVR-AGC is to stabilize the oscillation frequency of the MHPP which is connected to an infinite bus. Simulations are conducted by inputting step function with 5% load fluctuations as a representation of dynamic load. The simulation results show that the proposed method effectively raises the level  of electromechanical damping oscillations the SMIB by generating the comprehensive damping index (CDI) is minimum.

Abstract

Objective of research is to analyze the influence of solar irradiance and integration of  photovoltaic (PV) generator to power quality of three phase grid on the constant temperature and load, based on changes in some level of integration of  PV generator. Power quality aspects studied are fluctuation or changing, and harmonics of voltage and current on eight scenarios PV generator connected to three-phase grid, using passive filter circuit model double band pass (double tuned). Research shows that voltage and current values on the PCC bus before use double tuned passive filter on the condition only connect single generator is still stable. However, if the PV generator connected to the three phase grid, amounted to more than one generation, voltage and current grid becomes unstable (fluctuation). At the level of solar radiation remains, the greater number of PV generators connected to the grid three-phase, then the values of voltage and current THD increases. At the level of solar irradiance increases, average THD of voltage and current grid also increased. Avarage THD of voltage and current grid is reduced after double tuned passive filter installed. Therefore, double tuned passive filter able to improve profile of voltage and current THD grid as a result of the integration of a number of PV power generators in three-phase grid according IEEE Standard 519-1992. Simulation and analysis of this research use Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract

This paper represents the Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) that can be used to determine the optimal location and rating of Thyristor controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). TCSC is equipment used to regulate and improve power flow in power system. The method used in this study was GSA. TCSC were the implemented on 500kV Java-Bali Power System. Loadflow results before optimization using Newton Rapshon method showed that active power loss was 297.607MW. While loadflow results after optimization using GSA with 5-TCSC obtained were 287.926MW of active power loss, with 10-TCSC, it was obtained 281.143MW of active power loss. In addition, using 15-TCSC, active power loss obtained was 279.405MW. GSA methods can be used to minimize power losses and transmission lines as well as to improve value of voltage in the range of 0.95+ 1.05pu compared with loadflow results before optimization. The more TCSC is used, then value of active power losses small.

Abstract

This paper presents comparative performance of transient power quality due to multi photovoltaic (PV) integration to grid at both fixed temperature and solar irradiation connected using Maximum Power Point Tracking Perturb and Observe (MPPT P and O)/MPPT Fuzzy. This research is performed as five transient of short-circuit faults on point common coupling (PCC) bus. An artificial intelligence with fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used to set duty cycle with step variable to control DC/DC boost converter, generate quick convergence to determine MPPT for controlling of PV output voltage. Furthermore the result is compared with MPPT P and O. During transient phase, non-symmetrical faults are able to result an unbalance current/voltage greater than symmetrical faults. On symmetrical faults, MPPT Fuzzy is able to resultan average THD voltage/THD current smaller than MPPT P and O. Otherwise on non-symmetrical faults, MPPT P and O is able to resultan average THD voltage/THD current slightly smaller than MPPT Fuzzy. Both of MPPT P and O and MPPT Fuzzy on all short circuit faults during transient phase are able to result significantly smaller current average THD current than average THD voltage and limits of THD prescribed in IEEE 519. This research is simulated using Matlab/Simulink environment.

Abstract

Power systems in all over the world have increased in size and complexity due to rapid growth of widespread interconnection. This situation will make power system operated closer to steady-state stability limit (SSSL) resulting in higher probability voltage instability or voltage collapse. This paper presents SSSL assessment in power system using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model based on REI-Dimo method. The equivalent REI-Dimo is used to determine SSSL index of the power systems. Then, the result of REI-Dimo will be taught on ANN method via online. Studies were carried out on a Java-Bali 500kV system. The simulation showed that the proposed method could accurately predict the proximity to SSSL in power system. The method was computationally efficient and suitable for online monitoring of steady-state stability condition in the power systems.

Abstract

Face recognition has been an active research topic in the past few decades due to its potential applications. Accurate face recognition is still a difficult task, especially in the case that illumination is unconstrained. This paper presents an efficient method for the recognition of faces with different illumination by using Gabor features, which are extracted by using log-Gabor filters of six orientations and four scales. By Using sliding window algorithm, these features are extracted at image block-regions. Extracted features are passed to the principal component analysis (PCA) and then to linear discriminant analysis (LDA). For development and testing we used facial images from the Yale-B databases. The proposed method achieved 86–100 % rank 1 recognition rate.
