Abstract

Cancer is one of the major problems affecting the people of Indonesia and the world. Lack of public awareness for early detection causes a delay in diagnosis. One of the medicinal plants that are commonly found in Indonesia is lime (C. aurantifolia). In lime peel extract, there is essential oil composed of D-Limonene (38.94%), β-pinen (26.66%), α-terpineol (8.29%), and terpinen-4-ol (4.32%). These compounds are known to have strong effects as anti-cancer. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 repetitions, namely 0, 125, 150, 250, and 1000 ppm. The research methods used were phytochemical test, FTIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis, and BSLT test. The probit value was analyzed using SPSS to obtain the LC50 value. Lime peel extract (C. aurantifolia) has an LC50 value of 331.533 ppm including the toxic category and has potential as an anti-cancer agent. Based on phytochemical and FTIR tests, lime peel (C. aurantifolia) contains alkaloid, flavonoid, and tannin compounds which are known to have antioxidant properties and can disrupt the balance of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) so as to trigger apoptosis of cancer cells.

Abstract

Marine pollution from ocean garbage, particularly plastic waste, has significant ecological impacts globally. Plastic debris dominates marine pollution and graadually breaks down into microplastics. This study analyzes microplastic particle count, shapes, and polymer types in water and sediiment around Pasaran Island. Research was conducted across four stations (Station I, II, III, and IV).  Microplastics in seawater samples were extracted using solutions of 70% ethanol, 30% H2O2, and 30% NaCl. Sediments were treated with FeSO4 (0.05 M), NaCl, and 30% H2O2. Particle counts and shapes were identified with a digital microscope and polymer types were determined via Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). Microplastic forms observed included fibers, fragments, film, and pellets, with fibers being the most abundant and pellets the least. Detected polymers included polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), originating from both local plasstic use and seawater flow around Pasaran Island.

Abstract

This study aims to see the empowerment efforts of coastal women in improving the family economy in Margasari Village, Labuhan Maringgai District, East Lampung Regency. This study used a qualitative research type with an ethnographic approach. The focus of the study was on four Poklahsar in Margasari Village. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Then, qualitative data analysis was carried out with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and data collection. The results of the study are that the empowerment of coastal women in Margasari Village through Poklahsar is carried out by providing various training, workshops, mentoring and assistance, both capital and production support facilities. Although the empowerment carried out has been quite massive, the impact of increasing income for families is still not significant because the marketing of processed food products produced by Poklahsar has not been optimal.

Abstract

Caulerpa racemosa is one of the green macroalgae that is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Lampung Province and needs to be explored as a phytopharmaceutical ingredient because it is thought to have bioactive compounds. In this study, we also used taurine, which is known to prevent cell and tissue damage due to oxidative processes, to explore its potential as an anticancer. The initial stage of this research is phytochemical screening of 96% ethanol extract of Caulerpa racemosa and contains phenolic compounds . alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, steroids and terpenoids. The toxicity test of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol extract and taurine used the BSLT method (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test). In this study, 7 concentrations were used, namely 0 ppm (control); 62.5; 125; 250; 500; 1000; and 2000 for both Caulerpa racemosa and taurine ethanol extracts with 5 repetitions. Meanwhile, the toxicity test results showed that the LC50 value of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol extract was 194.14 ppm and 170.69 ppm for taurine, this values are between 100 ppm - 1000 ppm of Caulerpa racemosa ethanol and taurine indicate that both material have potential anticancer activity with low toxicity.

Abstract

The amount of garbage that accumulates in the waters causes environmental damage which is getting worse. The breakdown of plastic waste into smaller particles that have been degraded is called microplastic. This study aims to analyze the number of particles, shapes, and types of microplastic polymers found in the water and sediments of Mahitam Island. The research location was determined by purposive random sampling with three stations based on plastic sources, namely Station I, Station II, and Station III, which had different characteristics from laboratory-based testing for seawater and sediment. Microplastic analysis on seawater samples was carried out by adding a solution of 70% ethanol, 30% H2O2, and 30% NaCl, and on sediment samples was carried out by adding a solution of FeSO4 (0.05 M), NaCl, and 30% H2O2. The content of the number of particles and the shape of microplastics were analyzed using a microscope, while the analysis of microplastic polymers using FT-IR. The first thing to do is to extract microplastics The forms of microplastic found are Fiber, Film, Fragments, and Pellets. The highest number of microplastic particles was the type of film for water samples at Station 1 and Station 2 for sediment samples. The types of polymers found in water and sediments on Mahitam Island are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS) which come from plastic waste. Microplastics are known to originate from the use of plastic originating from tourist activities and originating from the sea currents of Mahitam Island.

Abstract

Intensifikasi budidaya udang vaname (Litopenaeus vannamei) tidak hanya meningkatkan produksi udang tetapi juga berdampak pada penurunan kualitas air buangan dari tambak udang ke perairan pantai. Pengadaan instalasi pengolahan air limbah pada outlet mbah budidaya udang menjadikan salah satu pilihan untuk mereduksi bahan pencemar. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengevaluasi IPAL dalam mereduksi kandungan fosfat, nitrat, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), total organik matter (TOM) di tambak udang vaname Desa Ruguk, Kecamatan Ketapang, Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Sebanyak dua kolam digunakan sebagai IPAL (IPAL1 dan IPAL2) dengan luas kolam masing-masing 2.054 m2 dari 12 kolam tambak udang vaname. Keberadaan IPAL di tambak dievaluasi dengan pengukuran kualitas air di empat stasiun yaitu outlet, kolam IPAL 1, kolam IPAL 2, dan main outlet atau aliran Sungai sebanyak tiga kali (Sebelum panen, panen parsial, dan panen total). Parameter kimia yang diukur pada penelitian ini yaitu yaitu pH, nitrat, fosfat, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), alkalinitas, oksigen terlarut. Serta, mengamati pertembuhan parameter biologi yaitu total Vibrio count (TVC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas IPAL sederhana tidak efisien menurunkan nitrat (9%), pH (3%), alkalinitas (12%). Sedangkan salinitas (31%), DO (41%), fosfat (55%), dan TAN (61%), termasuk cukup efisien. Kelimpahan bakteri Vibrio meningkat 95% menuju day of care DOC 134 (panen total).

Abstract

Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara dengan keanekaragaman tumbuhan yang tinggi. Potensi tumbuhan yang ada belum diberdayakan secara maksimal oleh masyarakat, khususnya di Kebun Raya Liwa. Banyak tumbuhan yang memiliki potensi sebagai tumbuhan obat, namun penggunaan sebagai pestisida alami belum banyak digali lebih lanjut. Keterlibatan staf yang ada di KRL sangat diperlukan untuk memanfaatkan secara langsung tumbuhan yang ada untuk membuat pestisida alami. Pestisida alami ini dapat digunakan untuk mengendalikan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh jamur (fungisida), mengendalikan gulma (herbisida), maupun mengendalikan tikus (rodentisida) dan lain sebagainya. Oleh sebab itu perlu dilakukan pelatihan untuk membuat pestisida alami bagi staf Kebun Raya Liwa. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan dalam pembuatan pestisida alami dengan metode maserasi. Hasil dari pelatihan ini menunjukkan ada peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dengan peningkatran nilai post-test sebesar 29 poin, perentase peningkatan sebesar 64,44%. Hasil dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini staf Kebun Raya Liwa dapat membuat pestisida alami dan dapat menggunakan pestisida alami untuk mengendalikan organisme pengganggu yang ada di Kebun Raya Liwa.

Abstract

Pneumonia in cattle compromises welfare and carcass value, yet abattoir-based histopathology evidence from Indonesia’s qurban context remains scarce. To estimate the prevalence of pneumonia and characterize lesion patterns in lungs from qurban cattle processed in Lampung Province (2019). A cross-sectional, laboratory study analyzed 20 bovine lungs collected opportunistically from four districts (Bandar Lampung, Lampung Timur, Pringsewu, Metro). Representative tissues were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin, paraffin-embedded, sectioned at 4–5 µm, and stained with hematoxylin–eosin; bright-field microscopy (≈40×–400×) classified lesions a priori as interstitial pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, or aspiration-consistent pneumonia, and annotated severity (mild/moderate), temporality (acute/chronic), and distribution (focal/multifocal). Analyses were descriptive. 13/20 (65%) lungs met histological criteria for pneumonia, while 7/20 were normal. Interstitial cases showed alveolar-septal thickening, congestion/hemorrhage, and alveolar edema; bronchopneumonia was airway-centered with peribronchiolar cuffing and suppurative/fibrinosuppurative exudates; aspiration-consistent lesions exhibited focal/multifocal cranioventral involvement with foreign particulate material and neutrophilic exudates, occasionally with multinucleated giant cells. Most lesions were mild–moderate and predominantly acute. The profile indicates a multifactorial aetiology in which upstream infectious processes and perimortem handling both contribute, underscoring the added value of histopathology over gross inspection alone. Findings support immediate refinement of slaughter procedures (restraint, incision sequence, head positioning) to reduce aspiration risk; routine integration of histopathology paired with culture/PCR into abattoir surveillance for actionable supplier feedback; and periodic, micrograph-based auditing and training to strengthen food safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity.
