Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of physical activity on quality of life and anxiety among university students involved in sports communities. The researcher also highlights the potential role of social support particularly from close individuals in enhancing student-athletes motivation. The subjects of this study were 65 students who participated in sports communities, selected using probability sampling through proportionate stratified random sampling. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing the third type of causal-comparative research, namely consequence exploration. The hypothesis was tested using bootstrapped regression analysis through SPSS version 27. The results showed that physical activity did not have a significant effect on any of the four dimensions of students’ quality of life: physical (p = 0.243), psychological (p = 0.155), social (p = 0.352), and environmental (p = 0.137). Additionally, physical activity did not show a significant effect on anxiety levels (p = 0.137). Since all significance values were greater than 0.05, the findings indicate that physical activity does not have a statistically significant influence on quality of life or anxiety among university students.

Abstract

In the era of global competition, the development of professional competencies of female workers faces specific challenges that require innovative approaches. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of experiential learning interventions through outbound activities in improving emotional intelligence and competitiveness of female workers. This study is motivated by the need of Daya Group Honda to develop female workers into division leaders in branches spread across West Java through the DBMP (Daya Basic Management Program). This study uses an experiential learning approach applied in outbound activities as a learning method through direct experience followed by structured reflection. Outbound activities were chosen because they offer a comprehensive framework for developing cognitive, emotional, and physical aspects simultaneously in a structured outdoor environment. This study involved 16 female employees from Daya Cipta Motor Group Honda Bandung who participated in a two-week experiential learning program through outbound activities. Data were collected using standardized questionnaires on emotional intelligence and competitiveness and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results revealed a significant improvement in emotional intelligence, while competitiveness showed no significant change. Theoretically, this study reinforces the development of Experiential Learning theory in the context of female human resource development. Practically, the findings provide valuable insights for the Ministry of Manpower and company management in formulating effective, evidence-based training programs that enhance emotional intelligence and promote sustainable competitiveness among female workers.  The formulation of the research problem includes two main aspects: (1) the effect of experiential learning interventions through outbound activities on emotional intelligence of female workers, (2) the effect on competitiveness of female workers.

Abstract

Physical activity is an important factor that contributes to physiological health, as well as the psychological well-being of an individual. Participation in sport has increasingly been associated with higher levels of happiness, subjective well-being, and the development of meaning in life. However, the philosophical dimensions of sport participation remain relatively underexplored within the field of sport science literature. This study aims to examine the relationship between sport participation, happiness, and meaning in life through a narrative literature review approach. The literature search was conducted across several international academic databases, including Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science, using keywords related to physical activity, psychological well-being, happiness, and meaning in life. Approximately 40 relevant scientific publications were analyzed thematically to identify psychological and philosophical mechanisms linking sport participation to human well-being. The findings indicate that physical activity contributes to happiness through several mechanisms, including the enhancement of subjective well-being, the strengthening of self-efficacy, emotional regulation, and the fulfillment of basic psychological needs as described in Self-Determination Theory. In addition, experiences of challenge, achievement, and social engagement in sport play a significant role in helping individuals develop a sense of meaning in life. Therefore, sport should not only be viewed as a physical activity aimed at improving bodily health but also as an important medium for fostering psychological well-being and meaningful living. These findings highlight the importance of promoting sport participation within society as part of a broader strategy to improve overall quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: The increasing elderly population in Indonesia is accompanied by a growing risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Current pharmacological interventions have limited effectiveness and may cause adverse effects, highlighting the need for safe, natural-based alternatives. Mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana) and gotu kola (Centella asiatica) possess neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties that may enhance cognitive function in older adults. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica extract supplementation in improving cognitive function among the elderly. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group study was conducted among 26 elderly residents at Griya Lansia Garut selected by purposive sampling. The intervention group received combined mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica supplementation for four weeks. Cognitive function was measured using MMSE, TMT-A, and Forward Digit Span, with data analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests (p0.05). Results: The intervention group showed significant improvements in MMSE scores (Δ=2.15; p0.001), processing speed and attention as measured by TMT-A (p=0.021), and working memory as measured by Forward Digit Span (p0.001). Between-group comparisons revealed significant differences in MMSE (p0.001) and TMT-A score changes (p=0.008), whereas no significant difference was observed for Forward Digit Span (p=0.458). Conclusion: Supplementation with mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica extracts may improve global cognitive function and attention in elderly individuals. This combined botanical intervention shows promise as a supportive non-pharmacological strategy for preventing cognitive decline; however, larger randomized controlled trials are required to confirm its efficacy and safety.

Abstract

Basketball performance depends on strong anaerobic endurance due to repeated high-intensity movements such as sprinting, jumping, and rapid directional changes. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is widely recognized as an effective method to improve anaerobic capacity because it reflects the intermittent demands of basketball and enhances metabolic efficiency. This study aimed to examine the effect of HIIT on the anaerobic endurance of basketball players at the Halilintar Bukittinggi Club. This experimental study used a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants were 12 basketball players aged 15–18 years selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of a 6-week HIIT program conducted three times per week. Anaerobic endurance was measured using the Running-Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), with fatigue index as the main indicator. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a notable improvement in anaerobic endurance. The average fatigue index decreased from 10.11 to 6.07, indicating an improvement with Cohen’s d was 0.90. Since a lower fatigue index reflects better anaerobic endurance, this result demonstrates a meaningful performance enhancement. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant effect (t = 8.24; p < 0.05). In conclusion, HIIT is an effective training method for improving anaerobic endurance in young basketball players.
