Abstract

This study aims to describe locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts in the novel Penyalin Cahaya by Lucia Priandarini. The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The research instrument is the researcher themselves, along with a data analysis guide table. The data collection techniques used are reading and note-taking. The results of the study found a total of eighty-three locutionary speech act data, consisting of forty-eight declarative locution data, twenty-six interrogative locution data, and six imperative locution data. Then, twenty-five illocutionary speech acts were found, including thirteen verdictive illocution data, one exersitive illocution data, one commissive illocution data, five behabitives illocution data, and five expositive illocution data. Meanwhile, eighteen perlocutionary data were found.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of applying the principles of language politeness in communication, particularly in digital media such as podcasts, which feature spontaneous interactions. The objective of this study is to describe the forms of compliance with and violations of the principles of language politeness in the Warung Kopi podcast on the HAS Creative YouTube channel, December 2026 edition, based on Geoffrey Leech's Politeness Principle theory. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive research design. The findings reveal that the Warung Kopi podcast contains utterances that both comply with and violate the six maxims of Leech's Politeness Principle, namely the Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim, and Sympathy Maxim. Compliance with the principles of language politeness is reflected in utterances that respect interlocutors, express appreciation, demonstrate empathy, and promote harmonious communication. In contrast, violations of the principles of language politeness are found in utterances containing direct criticism, explicit disagreement, disrespectful attitudes, and expressions that have the potential to offend the interlocutors. The findings indicate that language use in the podcast is influenced by the casual conversational context, the spontaneity of the speakers, and the close interpersonal relationships among the participants, resulting in both compliance with and violations of the principles of language politeness.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the stylistic elements in Tere Liye's novel Pulang, focusing on diction, figures of speech, and imagery. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data source was the novel Pulang by Tere Liye, while the data consisted of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences containing stylistic elements. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, then analyzed by classifying the data into diction, figures of speech, and imagery, followed by interpretation based on stylistic theory. Data validity was ensured through persistent observation. The findings indicate that Tere Liye employs various forms of diction, figures of speech, and imagery to strengthen aesthetic value, deepen characterization, and convey messages effectively. Diction is used to create emotional nuances and emphasize meaning, figures of speech enrich the expressive quality of language, while imagery evokes sensory experiences that enable readers to visualize the events vividly. These findings demonstrate that stylistic elements contribute significantly to enhancing the literary quality and communicative power of the novel.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the needs analysis as the foundation for developing the Observara interactive media based on Google Sites in learning to write observation report texts for tenth-grade students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4D) model, with the discussion in this article limited to the Define stage. The Define stage consisted of front-end analysis, learner analysis, concept analysis, and specifying instructional objectives. Data were collected through interviews with an Indonesian language teacher, questionnaires administered to 32 tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang, and document analysis. The findings revealed several learning problems, including students’ difficulties in generating ideas, organizing observation report texts according to the appropriate structure, and applying proper linguistic features. In addition, the learning media previously used had not optimally supported students’ understanding of the material. The learner analysis also indicated that students required more interactive learning media and showed positive readiness toward the use of Google Sites, supported by adequate digital facilities. Furthermore, the concept analysis and instructional objectives served as the basis for designing learning materials and activities that aligned with students’ needs. These findings demonstrate that the Define stage provides a comprehensive foundation for developing the Observara interactive media to support observation report text writing instruction.
