Abstract

Childhood routine immunization is a critical stage to ensure the health of infants and protect against serious diseases. Therefore, adequate strategies are urgently needed to increase childhood immunization coverage to prevent global disease and death. This review has identified the effect of interventions to increase immunization coverage among children in developing countries. A review included published studies from 2013 to 2023 on randomized controlled trials (RCT) and pre-post intervention that met eligible criteria. All included studies had been conducted in English-published articles on Pub Med and Google Scholar, without being limited to geographical sites. A total of 1107 published articles were accessed and 12 final eligible articles were reviewed. 66.67% of the included studies were conducted in Africa, 16.67% in South East Asia countries, and others were conducted in East Asia and America. These studies demonstrated that different interventions (SMS and call reminders, sticker reminders, immunization education, home-based records, and community-centered) had significant increases in immunization coverage for childhood compared to the control group with standard care or without any interventions. The present findings suggest that interventions including implementing SMS and call reminders, sticker reminders, education both from health workers and local leaders, and home-based records can potentially reduce immunization dropout. However, strategies to improve coverage for immunization uptake should also be considered preferred community-based to extend the marginal groups.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting are common conditions in earlier pregnancy. Some studies have suggested that nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (NVP) is caused by multiple factors, however, few studies assessed family support and psychological factors. The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of NVP and its contributing factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted in five Primary Health Centers in Semarang during August 2023. A total of 99 eligible pregnant women were included. A logistic regression was used to determine the significant contributing factors of NVP. The prevalence of moderate to severe and mild NVP was 71.7% and 28.3% respectively. Bivariate analysis indicated that gestational age and anxiety level significantly influence NVP (p-value <0.05). Women with greater gestational age (OR= 2.462; 0.954-6.356) and mild anxiety (OR=3.337; 1.240-8.982) were more likely to experience NVP during their pregnancy. Gestational of 12 weeks and mild anxiety are strongly associated with NVP. These findings highlight the crucial of psychological factors despite other health-related conditions.

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was 24.4% in 2021 in Central Java at 20.9%, which is still above the WHO target of 20%. There are many direct and indirect risk factors that cause stunting events.  The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk factors for stunting events in Central Java. This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The collected data was analyzed using the Chi-Square test to assess the relationship between the independent variable (risk factors) and the dependent variable (stunting incidence). In addition, the odds ratio calculation is used to determine the risk level of each factor in influencing the incidence of stunting. The population is all mothers who have toddlers aged 0-59 months in Central Java Province. Data were collected via Google Form for two weeks in December 2023 using the Accidental Sampling technique with a total of 2671 mothers involved in this research. The result shows that the prevalence of stunting is 24.3%. There was no relationship between maternal parity OR 0.865, working mother OR 0.878, maternal BMI OR 0.898, economic status OR 0.954, and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. There was a relationship between maternal education OR 2.120, maternal height OR 1.955, exclusive breastfeeding OR 1.616, the diet OR 3.160, gestational age OR 1.410, the birth weight OR 1.670, and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. It is concluded that several factors collaborate to the high number of stunting, which are maternal education, maternal height, exclusive breastfeeding, diet, gestational age, and birth weight. Further research needs to consider a wider sample, the number of other risk factors which are competency of health provider to diagnose stunting, family support, and extend the length of observation time.
