Abstract

Tunas Mekar Farmer Group in Tumbudadio Village, Tirawuta District, East Kolaka Regency. Located in the east, bordering Konawe Regency. Its location in the highlands (750 meters above sea level) has good potential for cultivating cocoa plantations. One of the obstacles often faced by farmer groups is the presence of plant pests (OPT). Until now, cocoa farmers usually use chemical pesticides that are sold on the market. Halu Oleo University Thematic KKN 2023 students provide another alternative to cocoa farmers, namely the use of plant-based pesticides that are more environmentally friendly, by providing training to the community regarding the manufacture of plant-based pesticides. The methods used are counseling, training and application. The result of this service is increased knowledge and skills about the benefits and methods of making botanical pesticides made from wild plants. Self-made vegetable pesticides can reduce production costs and have the potential to become a home industry.

Abstract

Abstract

Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) is one of the bacterial diseases that attacks and causes mass death of nile tilapia. Disease control in fish farming using synthetic antibiotics has caused problems in aquaculture, such as bacterial resistance to antibiotics, drug residues in fish, and water pollution. Therefore, alternative measures to control MAS that are safe and environmentally friendly, such as the application of immonostimulant that use organic ingredients, are needed. This research aims to determine potency of immunostimulation of nile tilapia trough feeding of synbiotic feed namely prebiotic Eleutherine bulbosa powder (Ebp) and probiotic containing Lactobacillus casei and Saccharomyces cerevisiae as for prevention MAS disease. The fish were reared for 21 days, in reared for the first 14 days, the fish were given synbiotic feed then for the next 7 days they were given feed without synbiotics. The fish were challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila on day 15th. Experimental design used was completely randomized design with four treatments: 0 g Ebp and 0 ml probiotics in 1 kg of feed (synbiotic free feed), 7.5 g, 10 g, and 12.5 g Ebp each with 15 ml probiotics in 1 kg of feed. The results showed that feeding the fish with synbiotic feed, especially the treatment Ebp12.5, give significantly different results on parameters prevalence, fish recovery, survival rate of the fish test. This research concluded that treatment of Ebp 12.5 was the best dosage of immunostimulant to prevent MAS disease in nile tilapia.

Abstract

The purpose of this outreach activity is to serve the community by enhancing the knowledge and skills of household-scale fish farmers. This program is designed to provide practical guidance on managing fish farming businesses using simple household equipment, covering aspects such as seed selection, pond management, and marketing strategies for harvested products. Through a series of training sessions and educational materials, participants are expected to optimize the potential of aquaculture in Tanjung Bunga Village, Wawolesea District, North Konawe Regency. In addition, this activity aims to increase the economic income of local residents and make a tangible contribution to the development of local aquaculture enterprises. The expected outcomes include not only an increase in fish production but also an overall improvement in the welfare of the community in Tanjung Bunga Village. Thus, this outreach program is expected to serve as a sustainable model that brings positive impacts to the development of the fisheries sector in the region.

Abstract

The freshwater clam, locally known as Pokea (Batissa riolacea var. celebensis, von Martens 1897; Bivalvia: Corbulidae), is a popular and widely consumed food in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. Despite its popularity, basic information required for conservation management, such as reproductive biology, is lacking. Hence, this study aims to examine the reproductive biology of the clam obtained from the Pohara River, Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Pokea samples were collected monthly from February 2012 to January 2013. Its reproductive biology, including sex ratio, stage of gonadal maturity, gonadosomatic index (GSI), fecundity, and size at first mature gonad for each sample, was recorded. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and linear regression in the software package SigmaPlot v.6.0. The Pokea population in the Pohara River was male-biased. The population spawns throughout the year, with the peak spawning season occurring in August–September. Mature gonads were found at small shell sizes, indicating early sexual maturity. This gonadal development in Pokea, which might have been influenced by food availability, provides very relevant baseline information for the conservation of the Pokea population in the Pohara River.
