Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is becoming one of the major problems in the world that causes a few cases of other diseases. This disease is characterized by hyperglycaemia which occurs disrupted secretion or insulin function or both. Oxidative stress, caused by an imbalance between Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and antioxidants, can be one of the causes of complications of the disease. Naringenin is potentially found to be an antidiabetic by various mechanisms. The literature research was carried out through articles over the past ten years aimed at finding out how the antioxidant effect mechanisms of naringenin against diabetes mellitus. Research results show that naringenin has significant potential as a therapeutic agent in managing diabetes mellitus through reduce inflammation, increased antioxidants mechanism as well as improved insulin functions and glucose metabolism.

Abstract

Introduction: ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental condition often managed with stimulant medications such as methylphenidate. While pharmacotherapy remains effective for symptom controlgrowing attention has focused on the role of nutrition in modulating treatment outcomes and overall management of ADHD. However, concerns remain regarding long-term outcomes, adverse effects, and dependence on medication. In recent years, research has increasingly emphasized a more integrative perspective beyond pharmacotherapy, incorporating environmental and nutritional factors to a more comprehensive understanding, including the role of environmental factors, diet, and nutrition. Methods: This case report discusses a 20-year-old female college student with a history of ADHD who presented with behavioral disturbances and sleep deprivation. She had previously shown improvement in focus and academic performance with methylphenidate (CONCERTA), but experienced weight gain as a side effect, motivating her to study nutritional science. Nutritional factors and food–drug interactions appeared to influence both the expression of ADHD symptoms and the tolerability of pharmacotherapy. Discussion: This case highlights individual variability in response to methylphenidate, particularly concerning metabolic effects. The effectiveness and adverse reactions to ADHD medications may be influenced by dietary interactions, suggesting the importance of a personalized treatment approach. A well-balanced diet may enhance cognitive performance and improve pharmacologic tolerability, especially when it includes adequate intake of protein, unsaturated fats, and essential micronutrients. Conclusion: The management of ADHD should consider both pharmacological and nutritional factors. Integrating dietary support into treatment plans may enhance outcomes and reduce side effects, offering a more holistic and individualized model of care.

Abstract

Batu ginjal atau nefrolitiasis merupakan penyakit saluran kemih yang umum terjadi, bahkan hampir di seluruh dunia sehingga menjadi masalah global yang perlu diatasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi hasil penerapan tatalaksana proses asuhan gizi terstandar pada pasien nefrolitiasis, hidronefrosis, diabetes melitus, hipertensi, aorta sklerosis, dan cerebrovascular accident. Studi kasus ini dilakukan RS X Kota Surabaya pada tanggal 11 November - 14 November 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan desain observasional analitik. Proses asuhan gizi terstandar melewati beberapa tahap, mulai dari asesmen, diagnosis gizi, intervensi, serta monitoring dan intervensi. Data diperoleh melalui data rekam medis pasien, pengukuran antropometri, dan wawancara. Melalui penelitian ini, diperoleh hasil bahwa asupan makan pasien masih belum memenuhi target asupan berdasarkan intervensi yang diterapkan. Sedangkan pemeriksaan fisik, klinis, dan biokimia pasien membaik dari hari ke hari. Proses asuhan gizi yang dilakukan dapat mendukung kesembuhan pasien meskipun belum mencapai target yang diharapkan. Pasien memerlukan pemantauan lebih lanjut untuk diberikan asupan gizi yang seimbang sesuai kebutuhan dan kondisinya.

Abstract

Introduction: The association between obesity and hypertension in adolescents necessitates the identification of potential predictors at an early stage. This study aimed to examine the association of sex and place of residence with nutritional status and blood pressure in adolescents aged 10-18 years. Methods: A sample of 198 subjects aged 10-18 years was included in this study. Data on demographic characteristics were collected using a structured questionnaire, whereas nutritional status and blood pressure were measured using standardized measures. Statistical analyses, including the independent t-test, Pearson and Spearman correlation test, and linear regression, were conducted to identify potential risk factors, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results: The study revealed a high prevalence of overweight-obesity (24.7%) and hypertension (11.1%) among the subjects. Significant correlations were observed between body weight, height, age, and blood pressure (p < 0.05). Boys exhibited higher mean body height and Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) than girls. Nutritional status was positively associated with Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure, with nutritional status emerging as the primary predictor in both private houses and boarding schools (p < 0.05). Furthermore, age at menarche was found to be a predictor of blood pressure in boys, whereas age was a predictor in girls. Conclusions: BMI predicts nutritional status and blood pressure, whereas age and menarche age are crucial factors that depend on sex. Based on these findings, it is critical to manage obesity and hypertension by considering characteristics such as nutritional status, sex, and age

Abstract

Cognitive impairment and dementia place a significant burden on families in care. Those caring for older adults with dementia often face extraordinary emotional, physical, and financial challenges. Therefore, families and older adults need to maximize their role and provide support to reduce the burden they feel. Objective: This Community Service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of family caregivers in caring for older adults with cognitive impairment problems. Activities are carried out by providing counseling and demonstrations. The partner involved in the activity is the Kertosono Community Health Center. Activities are evaluated using pre-post tests. The average score of participants at the pretest was 5.36 and increased at the posttest to 8.46, so there was an increase in family caregivers' knowledge regarding cognitive impairment problems. The difference between the pre-test and post-test significance values ​​is 0.000, this value is <0.05 which explains that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Training is useful for improving the knowledge and skills of family caregivers in caring for older adults with cognitive impairment problems.

Abstract

ABSTRAK:Latar Belakang: Penggunaan Internet yang berlebihan saat ini menyebabkan masalah yang disebut Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) atau kecanduan internet. Adiksi internet adalah seseorang yang tidak mampu mengontrol diri untuk menggunakan internet, yang dapat menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan fisik, psikis, maupun kemampuan sosialisasi, dam perubahan pola makan yang mengakibatkan berubahan status gizi. Akses internet yang mudah merupakan faktor utama dalam kecanduan internet dan dapat mengubah gaya hidup. Karena kampus menyediakan fasilitas Internet gratis dan tidak ada pengawasan orang tua, risiko masalah penggunaan Internet mahasiswa meningkat.Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mempelajari hubungan adiksi internet dengan status gizi pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat, Universitas AirlanggaMetode: Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian obeservasional analitik dengan desain studi cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat Universitas Airlangga sebanyak 72 mahasiswa. Pengumpulan data adiksi internet menggunakan kuesioner Young's Internet Addiction Test , status gizi menggunakan perhitungan indeks massa tubuh melalui pengukuran berat badan serta tinggi badan dan analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman.Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan antara adiksi internet dengan status gizi (p = 0,020;r=-0,274). Berdasarkan penelitian ini, diketahui bahwa semakin seseorang adiksi terhadap internet maka akansemakin tinggi tingkat status gizinya.Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini adalah adanya hubungan negatif yang lemah antara adiksi internet dengan status gizi. Hubungan negatif menunjukkan bahwa semakin seseorang memiliki adiksi pada internet yang tinggi maka semakin rendah status gizinya. Penggunaan internet sebaiknya dibatasi terutama pada area kampus dengan cara membatasi akses wi-fi gratis yang hanya dapat digunakan untuk kebutuhan studi, sehingga dapat mencegah terjadinya permasalahan kesehatan secara psikis dan fisik.Kata kunci: adiksi internet, status gizi, mahasiswa

Abstract

Latar Belakang; Stunting adalah kondisi gagal tumbuh pada anak balita (Bayi bawah lima tahun) akibat dari kekurangan gizi kronis sehingga anak terlalu pendek untuk usianya. Balita yang mengalami stunting akan memiliki tingkat kecerdasan yang tidak maksimal, menjadikan anak menjadi lebih rentan terhadap penyakit, dan pada saat dewasa dapat beresiko pada menurunnya tingkat produktivitas . Stunting tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh satu faktor saja melainkan lebih dari satu faktor (multifaktor) diantaranya adalah kondisi ekonomi keluarga, pendidikan orang tua, pendapatan orangtua, ketahanan pangan rumah tangga, nutrisi ibu saat hamil, nutrisi 1000 HPK, asupan makanan dan penyakit infeksi.Tujuan: untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya hubungan antara ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dengan kejadian stunting pada balita usia 24-59 bulan di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Sumberaji, Kabupaten Lamongan.Metode: Penelitian cross sectional ini melibatkan 83 balita yang dipilih secara sengaja didasarkan pada pemilihan suatu karakteristik dengan teknik purposive sampling. Proses pengambilan data dilakukan melalui wawancara untuk variabel ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dan pengukuran antropometri untuk variabel stunting. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu dengan uji statistik regresi logistik. Variabel bebas dari penelitian ini yaitu ketahanan pangan rumah tangga sedangkan variabel terikat dari penelitian ini yaitu stunting.Hasil: Hasil penelitian didapatkan 29 balita memiliki status gizi stunting (34,9%) dan 54 balita memiliki status gizi normal (65,1%). Selain itu, juga didapatkan jumlah rumah tangga tahan pangan 51,8%, rawan pangan tanpa kelaparan 28,9%, dan rawan pangan dengan kelaparan 18,1%. Berdasarkan uji regresi logistik rumah tangga rawan pangan tanpa kelaparan tidak berhubungan secara signifikan dengan kejadian stunting (p= 219). Sedangkan pada rumah tangga rawan pangan dengan kelaparan berhubungan positif signifikan dengan kejadian stunting (p<0,001), baik pada model yang tidak disesuaikan maupun pada model yang disesuaikan (β-Koefisien: 77,14 (95%CI: 8,72-682,53) ke (β-Koefisien: 87,70 (95%CI: 9,57-804,12) ke (β-Koefisien: 153,41 (95%CI: 11,46-2053,61).Kesimpulan: penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara ketahanan pangan rumah tangga dengan kejadian stunting. Oleh karena itu, perlu diberikan pendidikan gizi tentang pencegahan stunting, khususnya bagi masyarakat dengan kerawanan pangan rumah tangga. Kata Kunci: stunting, ketahanan pangan, balita

Abstract

Background: Menarche is the first menstruation experienced by adolescent girls. The age of menarche in Indonesia has decreased from 13 years in 2010 to 12.4 years in 2018. The age of menarche is influenced by internal and external factors, some of the factors are macronutrient intake, physical activity, and nutritional status. The decrease in age at menarche is associated with an increased likelihood of uterine myoma, dysmenorrhea, and breast cancer. Objectives: To analyze the relationship between macronutrient intake, physical activity, nutritional status and age at menarche in adolescents Girl 9-15 years old. Methods: This research used cross sectional design with sample size of 87 adolescent girls who had experienced menstruation and selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected by macronutrient intake used Semi-Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ), physical activity used Short Form International Physical Activity Questionnaire (SF-IPAQ), anthropometric data to assess nutritional status through measurement of body weight and height and age of menarche used a self-report questionnaire. Data was analyzed by t-test, chi-square and linear regression with 95% confidence level. Result: There was a significant relationship between fat intake (­p = 0,049) and nutritional status (β = -0.92, p <0.001) with the age of menarche. The results of the analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between energy intake (p = 0,058), protein intake (p = 0,178), carbohydrate intake (p = 0,099), and physical activity (p = 0,422) with age at menarche. Conclusions: fat intake and nutritional status during adolescence is related to the age of menarche. Prevention for cancer in women should be carried out as early as possible when adolescent girls have not menarche. One of prevention is managing the nutritional status of adolescent girls by paying attention to diet. Abstract

Background: Metabolic syndrome (SM) is a syndrome consisting of a number of symptoms including increased waist circumference, increased blood triglyceride levels, decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and glucose intolerance. The criteria for metabolic syndrome based on the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) modified for the Asian region state that a person is diagnosed with SM if he has 3 of the 5 symptoms. The importance of managing the nutrition of the elderly in a group is expected to improve the quality of life of the elderly, including the elderly group in social institutions. Research data from the previous year, 80% of the elderly at UPTD Griya Werdha Surabaya experienced malnutrition and weight loss, and had insufficient intake. In addition, 64.8% had hypertension, 33% had gout, 27.8% had hypercholesterolemia, and 13% had diabetes mellitus, and more than 20% had multiple diseases. Objectives: to describe of the nutritional status of the elderly on a history of metabolic syndrome in the elderly at UPTD Griya Werdha Surabaya and to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and a history of metabolic syndrome in the elderly at UPTD Griya Werdha Surabaya. Methods: This research is an observational cross-sectional study to describe the nutritional status of a history of metabolic syndrome in the elderly at UPTD Griya Werdha Surabaya. The research variables were nutritional status and history of metabolic syndrome. The instruments used were a respondent characteristic questionnaire form containing name, gender, age, and education and the MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) form. The total sample is 60 elderly people selected using simple random sampling. Results: The results showed that 26 elderly (43.3%) had a history of metabolic syndrome, that is 8 male elderly and 18 female elderly. According to the MNA, there are 36 elderly who are at risk of malnutrition and 2 suffer from malnutrition. Nutritional status based on BMI (Body Mass Index), that is 9 elderly people experiencing malnutrition, 31 normal nutrition, and 20 overweight. Malnutrition according to MNA showed no association (p=0.139) with a history of metabolic syndrome, while malnutrition based on BMI had an association (p<0.001) with a history of metabolic syndrome. Conclusions: The conclusion obtained in this study is that overweight status (BMI³25) has a relationship with a history of metabolic syndrome.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional literacy is a measure of an individual's ability to obtain, process, and understand information related to nutrition to be used as a basis for decision-making related to nutrition. Individual decisions related to nutrition play a major role in determining eating patterns and physical activity. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional literacy level on the nutritional status of students at SMAN 1 Kota Tangerang. Methods: This was an observational study with a cross-sectional research design. The research location was conducted at SMAN 1 Kota Tangerang with a sample size of 168 people selected randomly using a purposive random sampling technique. Research data were collected by filling out a Google Forms questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the chi-square test. Results: The results showed that there was a relationship between mother's education level (p=0,031); pocket money (p=0,037); and gender (p=0,027) with nutritional status of students. Meanwhile, nutritional literacy which was divided into functional, interactive, and critical domains showed no relationship with nutritional status (p=0,054; p=0,687; and p=0,769). Conclusions: There was no direct relationship between nutritional literacy with the nutritional status of SMAN 1 Tangerang students. Strengthening nutrition education through the curriculum and collaboration of various parties is needed to achieve a better level of nutritional literacy.
