Abstract

A status report with preliminary results for the IndoBioSys project is presented and the impact of the project results for our knowledge of the Indonesian fauna is discussed. Using the REST API available on the Barcode of Life Data System we recover 21,153 public records (3,390 BINs) from Indonesia and compare against the 21,813 records (3,580 BINs) generated by the IndoBioSys project. From all IndoBioSys BINs, 3,366 (94%) are new to Indonesia. IndoBioSys is responsible for a BIN increase of 36.5% in Lepidoptera, 62.6% in Trichoptera, 986% in Coleoptera, and 1,086% in Hymenoptera. After two years of the IndoBioSys project, the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense became the depository institution of 51.9% of Lepidoptera records, 95.8% of Coleoptera records, 97.6% of Hymenoptera records and 59.4% of Trichoptera records for Indonesia available on Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD). Now, with 55% of all Indonesian records available on BOLD, it is the most important depository for records of Indonesian genetic biodiversity, housing more than 23,000 new voucher specimens in their collections. Before IndoBioSys, the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense was responsible for only 9% of all records available in the Barcode of Life Data System for Indonesia, showing the importance of those pipelines in empowering the local institutions in becoming the reference depository of the local fauna.

Abstract

The band gaps of pure TiO2-anatase and Ag-doped TiO2-anatase have been predicted with density functional theory (DFT) approach. Kohn-Sham density functional theory calculations are performed using local density approximation (LDA) and generalized gradient approximation from Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (GGA+PBE) for exchange-correlation functionals. The first-principle calculations were done using unit cell convensional dan supercell (2x1x1) methods for TiO2-anatase and Ag-doped TiO2-anatase, respectively, as implemented within Amsterdam Density Functional (ADF) package of ADF-BAND version 2014.10. The calculated band gaps of pure TiO2-anatase from LDA and GGA+PBE were 2.74 and 2.87 eV, respectively. The intermediate band has been resulted from the calculation of Ag-doped TiO2-anatase using LDA and GGA+PBE as exchange-correlation functionals. The calculated band gaps of Ag-doped TiO2-anatase using LDA were 0.92 eV above valence band and 1.74 eV below conduction band, meanwhile from GGA+PBE were 1.02 eV above valence band and 1.78 eV below conduction band.

Abstract

A study on moth fauna with focus on macro-moths was conducted at Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park from January to December 2007. The aims of the study were to acquire information of macro-moth diversity and to access the composition of the species at this area. Another objective of the research was to explore undescribed species of moths that inhabit this park. The result showed that a year collecting time with four sampling sites recorded only about 86% of estimated value in this park (846 of 983 species). Index diversity based on Fisheries ? is high. In addition, the number of families recorded from this park is also high, 29 families, or about half of the moth families that occur in Indo-Malayan region. Citiis site was the highest among other sites in term of the diversity index, while Gunung Botol is the lowest. These two sites have a few species in common. In general, Geometridae, Noctuidae, and Pyralidae dominate across all sites. The other significant finding of the research is that Dudgeonidae that has never been recorded from Indonesia was found at Citiis site. Key words: diversity, macro-moths, similarity

Abstract

The phylogeny of the two closely- related genera, Agrioglypta Meyrick and Talanga Moore, was inferred from nucleotide sequence variation across a 973-bp region in the nuclear elongation factor-1 (EF-1) gene. Seven species representing the two genera and two outgroup species (Feltia jaculifera Guene and Metallarcha aureodiscalis Meyrick) were analyzed. The results showed the averages of the p-distances in the comparisons between species within genus and between species belonging to other different genera were 3.5% and 4.9%, respectively. EF-1 gene had almost reached saturation at the level of the divergence of these two genera. The phylogenetic analysis using MP and NJ methods showed that each genus was found to be a monophyletic group and the species relationships within each genus were almost consistent as well. A. eurytusalis is the basal species in the genus Agrioglypta. In the genus Talanga, T. sabacusalis lied in the basal node and T. tolumnialis was found to be sister group of T. sexpunctalis.
