Abstract

Resilience is characterized by ‘the ability to bounce back from challenge and adversity’. However, being Adolescent Living with HIV (ALHIV) give larger challenges on an individual throughout their life because of their characteristic and illness. After all, positive results such as resilience are also feasible, yet knowledge on resilience in ALHIV remains limited and resilience assessment methods continue to be debated and need further clarification of the concept of resilience is needed about this population. In recent years, empirical research on resilience has grown, criticism have been mostly concentrates on ambiguity definition and implications. This concept analysis aims to identify the concept of the resilience ALHIV by identifying the attributes that determine the concept, antecedents and consequences. This study tries to discover the traits that determine the concept of resilience in ALHIV using Walker and Avant’s approach, with searches performed in the CINAHL, PubMed, Science Direct and PsycInfo. The results of the analysis reveal the resilience antecedents of ALHIV such as coping strategy, illness acceptance, positive adaptation, self-efficacy, positive future expectation, emotional regulation, family support, school connectedness and healthcare support. The consequences of the concept of resilience in ALHIV include positive outcomes include improved adherence to treatment, psychological well-being, positive coping strategy, better school performance and positive social relationship.

Abstract

Introduction: Diarrhea remains a global health issue, particularly in vulnerable groups. Guava leaf (Psidium guajava) decoction is widely recognized in traditional medicine for treating diarrhea. Self-efficacy refers to belief in one's ability to apply knowledge in practice, crucial in health contexts. College students were selected as the population due to their potential as future health change agents who can integrate traditional practices into modern healthcare. Objective: This study aimed to assess the self-efficacy of Padjadjaran University students in using guava leaf decoction to manage diarrhea. Method: A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample included 113 students selected through purposive sampling. The General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), a standardized tool for measuring belief in one's ability to manage various situations, assessed students' confidence in traditional treatments. Data were collected via Google Forms and analyzed using univariate descriptive statistics. Results: Most students (54.9%) showed low self-efficacy in using guava leaf decoction for diarrhea treatment. Conclusions: The findings highlight the need for educational institutions to strengthen health education by incorporating evidence-based traditional medicine into academic curricula. This can be achieved through complementary nursing courses and awareness initiatives that promote informed, safe use of natural remedies like guava leaf decoction

Abstract

Hallucinations are a common symptom often experienced by people with schizophrenia. Treatment can be carried out through psychiatric nursing care combined with psychoreligious therapy. This study aims to describe the application of a combination of nursing care and psychoreligious therapy in patients diagnosed with sensory perception disorders: auditory and visual hallucinations. The method used was a clinical case report with five stages of the nursing process, from assessment to evaluation. The intervention was conducted over seven days, and psychoreligious therapy was administered twice daily for 10–20 minutes per session. The study subject was a patient, Mr. I, diagnosed with schizophrenia and experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations. The patient had a history of repeated hospitalizations at the psychiatric hospital with the same symptoms since 2019. Mr. I presented with complaints of laughing and talking to himself. The patient’s speech was incoherent, his affect was labile, he had difficulty focusing, and he exhibited a flight of ideas. The results showed that this intervention was effective for Mr. I, as the patient was able to recognize, dismiss, and redirect hallucinations independently, showed improved adherence to treatment, was able to maintain focus during conversations, was calmer, could open up emotionally, and experienced a reduction in the frequency of hallucinations. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of nursing care and psychoreligious therapy can be proven effective in enhancing the ability of schizophrenia patients to manage auditory and visual hallucinations independently.
