Abstract

This study aimed to measure how significant is the effect of using the Word Search game as a pre-activity in improving the vocabulary mastery of fourth-grade students at SD Islam Mu’tashim Billah during the Academic Year 2023/2024. The research applied a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design, using a total sampling technique that selected 15 students from the tenth grade as the research sample. Analysis of the pre- and post-test data using a t-test revealed a pre-test mean score of 37.66 and a post-test mean score of 84.66. The t-test result, indicating -12.89, was compared to the t-table value of 1.761% at a 0.05 significance level with 14 degrees of freedom (df). Based on the above data analysis, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted because the t-test was smaller than the t-table (-12.89-1.761). Furthermore, the effect size of 3.43 indicated a very strong effect (0.8). In conclusion, the use of the Word Search game as a pre-activity in teaching significantly influences students' vocabulary mastery.

There was a marked improvement between the results of the pre- and post-tests. Data analysis revealed that after the test, the average score was 89.84, up from 68.53 before the test. Moreover, the effect size was 1.728, suggesting that the alternative hypothesis “The use of Telegram group is effective on vocabulary acquisition of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 25 Pontianak” was accepted. Abstract

Kata kunci: potensi diri; pelatihan bahasa; manajemen stress Abstract Student development is not limited to academic achievements alone but also involves various aspects that can influence their future success, such as personal skills, career readiness, and the ability to cope with emotional and social challenges. As future educators, students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) are expected to have strong language skills, which play a crucial role in delivering educational content effectively, clearly, and engagingly to future students. Students often face pressures from multiple sources, including academic demands, exam preparation, and financial issues, all of which can increase anxiety. Additionally, social pressures, interpersonal conflicts, and the need to adapt to new social or cultural environments can significantly contribute to stress. If left unmanaged, these conditions may negatively impact students' mental and physical health. To assist students in addressing these challenges, the Student Support Unit (USM) of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura provides free guidance services covering personal development, stress management, and language skills. One of USM’s main initiatives is a community engagement program in the form of a workshop titled "Enhancing Student Potential through Language Training and Stress Management." This workshop is designed to improve students’ language abilities and stress management skills using methods such as presentations, lectures, discussions, and Q&A sessions. Sixty students participated, representing 20 undergraduate study programs within FKIP. Through this activity, students are expected to better manage stress and develop their potential to the fullest. Keywords: personal potential; language training; stress management

Abstract

The film Joy is a motivational movie that inspires viewers to work hard and achieve their dreams. This research examines the intrinsic motivation of the main character based on the Basic Psychological Needs Theory, which suggests that intrinsic motivation is driven by three core psychological needs: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The study explores how these needs are reflected in the character’s actions and dialogue. Using a descriptive-qualitative method, the movie script is analyzed as a primary data source, using document analysis techniques. Data were collected through an observation table and interpreted through content analysis. The findings reveal that the protagonist’s intrinsic motivation is primarily fueled by the need for competence, as shown in seven key moments where she strives for mastery. Autonomy is also significant, seen in six instances where the character resists external pressures to assert control over her choices. Relatedness, identified in five moments, provides emotional support that sustains her motivation. These results highlight the importance of competence in driving personal achievement, while autonomy and relatedness offer essential support. The study shows how films like Joy depict psychological needs and suggests that such portrayals can inspire viewers to pursue their own goals by fostering autonomy, competence, and meaningful relationships.
