Abstract

Background and Study Aim. Punch accuracy is an important aspect of karate, especially in the Gyaku Tsuki technique which demands precision and optimal strength. Various training methods have been developed to improve punch accuracy, including punching bag and resistance band training. This study aims to analyze the effect of punching bag and resistance band training on the accuracy of Gyaku Tsuki punches in karate athletes, considering arm muscle strength factors.Material and Methods. The research method used was an experiment with a 2x2 factorial design. The research subjects consisted of karate athletes who were divided into four groups based on the type of training and the level of arm muscle strength (high and low) there were 60 athletes practicing at Dojo Inkai. Measurement of punching accuracy was carried out using the targeted punching test and video analysis. Furthermore, the analysis was assisted by the SPSS 26 application.Results. The Two-Way ANOVA results showed a significant difference (p 0.05) between punching bag and resistance band training on Gyaku Tsuki accuracy. Athletes with high arm muscle strength benefited more from punching bag training, while no significant difference was found between the methods for those with low arm strength. An interaction effect (p 0.05) indicated that training effectiveness depends on athletes' physical characteristics.Conclusions. These findings provide important implications for coaches and athletes in developing more effective training programs. The punching bag exercise is recommended for athletes with high arm muscle strength, while resistance bands can be used as an alternative to improve stability and muscle endurance. This research also opens opportunities for further studies related to other training variations in improving the accuracy of punching techniques in karate.

Abstract

Abstract

Cortisol is one of the most commonly used stress biomarkers. Stress and depression are increasing in young people, especially among college students, especially medical students. Physical activity has been recommended for stress and depression relief, but its effect on cortisol has not been confirmed. This study aims to analyze cortisol measurements for stress, depression, their physical activity among medical student. This literature search utilized PubMed and Google Scholar, combining the keywords "cortisol", "stress", “depression”, “physical activity”, and "medical student" in publications from 2010 to 2025. Ten (10) studies that met our criteria. Most studies use saliva cortisol measurement to assess stress conditions. Our findings suggest cortisol as a measure of stress in medical students, but its contribution to the development of stress and depression remains unclear. There is no correlation between physical activity and cortisol in stress condition. Cortisol measurements can provide an objective test and reflect stress in medical students, but they do not adequately assess acute and stress-related cortisol release. Further studies are needed to assess the effectiveness of cortisol measurements.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an engaging and innovative fundamental gymnastics movement model for elementary school students in Phases A (ages 6–8) and B (ages 8–10), with an emphasis on safety and practical applicability. Using the ADDIE development framework, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation, the research followed a Research and Development (R&D) approach. Expert validation was carried out by seven raters, consisting of five media experts and two gymnastics and fitness specialists, and their assessments were analyzed using Aiken's V. Product trials were conducted on a small scale at the UNY sports laboratory school (3 participants) and on a large scale at Pakem State Elementary School (8 participants). The model demonstrated strong feasibility, validity, and reliability, with an average expert judgment score of 89.46%. Content validity ranged from high to very high (V = 0.762–0.952), and internal consistency reliability was excellent (Cronbach’s α = 0.890). Trial results were also positive, increasing from 93.33% in the small-scale trial to 95.93% in the large-scale trial, reflecting a 2.6% improvement in practicality. These findings indicate that the developed gymnastics-based fundamental movement model can serve as an effective instructional tool in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK), supporting motor development and increasing learning engagement among young learners.
