Abstract

In recent years environmental pollution has become a problem that needs attention because it causes negative impacts on ecosystems. The increase in cattle raising is directly proportional to livestock waste produced both from feces and excreted urine. Most people do not know how to process animal wastewater, so they dispose the livestock waste into water areas such as rivers that flow close to settlements. Water quality can be measured by several parameters, one of which is total dissolved solids (TDS). This parameter states the amount of solute both organic and inorganic in a solution. Moringa seeds have a coagulant effect due to their cationic electronic poly protein content. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of moringa seeds on reducing TDS of livestock wastewater. The sample of this study was cattle farm wastewater taken from the cages of members of the Walung Mekar farmer group. Moringa seed powder concentrations used in this study were 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L and 150 mg/L. Observation was conducted in various time periods 0 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes, 60 minutes. The TDS calculation method used gravimetric calculations (SNI 06-6989.27-2005). The results of variance indicated that Moringa oleifera powder had a very significant effect on the reduction of TDS levels in livestock wastewater. In summary, the best concentration of Moringa oleifera powder at 150 mg/L and the best deposition time at 60 minutes was able to reduce TDS levels.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Kedondong leaves (Spondias dulcis G. Forst) on the gastropathological histology of white rats (Mus musculus). A total of 25 healthy male white rats with weights 200-250 g were randomly divided into five groups. A control group was only given a placebo. The treatment group of kedondong leaf ethanol extract sequentially with a dose of 125, 250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg/day for 21 days orally. On the 22nd day all of the animals were sacrificed for its the gastric, followed by processing for histopathological preparations with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. The results of the study in all treatment groups were found gastric histology changes in the form of mild inflammatory cell infiltration, mild fatty degeneration and mild necrosis. The number of mice that experienced histopathological changes differed in each group. It can be concluded that the oral administration of kedondong leaf ethanol extract with a range at a dose of 125-1000 mg/kg/d for 21 days does not cause significant histopathological structure disturbance in the stomach of male white rats.

Abstract

Chronic apical periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that causes periodontal tissue destruction and forms chronic lesions. This study aims to prove that the administration of green meniran leaf ethanol extract can affect the kidney histopathology of chronic apical periodontitis Wistar rats. This study used a randomized posttest only control group design with four treatment groups and twelve replications of three sub-groups according to the time of application of the medicament paste, namely the 7th, 14th, and 21st days so that 48 Wistar rats were used. The treatment group consisted of negative control (K1), only injected with disease-causing bacteria. The positive control group was given 2% Calcium Hydroxide and Chlorhexidine digluconate. Treatment group 1(P1) was given calcium hydroxide and 10% green meniran leaf ethanol extract, and treatment group 2(P2) was given calcium hydroxide, 2% chlorhexidine digluconate, and 10% green meniran leaf ethanol extract. All samples were male Wistar rats with a weight ranging from 300-350 grams. The variables observed were congestion and necrosis with a score of 0 (normal); 1 (focal); 2 (multifocal); 3 (diffuse). The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test and if it showed a significant effect, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that in the K2, P1, and P2 treatments, there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the category of congestion and necrosis of the histopathological changes of the kidneys. The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract of green meniran leaves which has a function as an antioxidant can repair kidney damage caused by free radicals in chronic apical periodontitis conditions

Abstract

The waste produced by the traditional chicken slaughterhouse industry consists of two types, namely solid, and liquid waste. The main solid waste consists of feathers, feces and discarded body tissue. The Liquid waste consists of washing water from chicken carcasses mixed with blood, traces of fat, and organic materials. Waste that is directly discharged into waterways without treatment has the potential to contain pathogenic microorganisms. Moringa seeds as natural coagulants contain active compounds amnosyloxy benzyl isothiocynate, tannin polyphenols, and cationic polyelectrolyte proteins. The active ingredient has antiseptic, antibacterial, and coagulation-flocculation activities. This study aims to determine the effect of Moringa seed powder concentration and sedimentation time on total bacteria and Coliforms in traditional chicken slaughterhouse wastewater. Bacterial isolation for the calculation of total bacteria using the pour plate method on the nutrient agar culture, and the total Coliform by the spread plate method on the eosin methylene blue agar culture. The results showed that the coagulation flocculation of Moringa seed powder had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the decrease in total log bacteria and Coliform wastewater of traditional chicken slaughterhouses. It can be concluded that the coagulation-flocculation of Moringa seed powder can decrease the total bacterial and Coliform with the best results at a concentration of 150 mg / L and 60 minutes deposition time.
